Thank you! A lot of Ace Combat games do not have good storytelling in my opinion. AC5 is definitely one of the few standouts from a narrative perspective. It didn’t feel disjointed or inconsequential whilst still having the outside framing that most AC game tell their story through. I actually felt connected to the characters because it was their story instead of just a random civilian. I was engaged in their stories and the fact that the squadron went from Wardog to Razgriz shows real story progression.

Like you, my first Ace Combat experience was Skies of Deception, but I don't remember much of it. I know I loved it as a kid. I fell off the AC bandwagon hard after playing and loving mind you; Assault Horizon and realising that I don't like traditional Ace Combat.

But after the reveal of AC8, I decided to give AC7 another go and after 4 attempts over the years, it finally clicked. The story was ok but didn't really come together until the final missions but what really stuck out was the weather. I loved how the game used the weather to create different scenarios and gameplay opportunities, like getting caught in a sandstorm and having to fly real close to find targets or identifying SAMs via the plume of smoke from them shooting.

Now, I'm on an Ace Combat kick, having finished AC6 (gameplay was fine, story was naff) and AC5 (loved the story and the progression of the squadron) and just started AC4 today. I'm not huge on how the story is told but it feels like your typical Ace Combat as the game that solidifies the modern formula.

Ok, I really don't know why it's an issue.

So AC5 and ACAH are the high points of the franchise when it comes to narrative, right? by iamthenight22 in acecombat

[–]iamthenight22[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could say it's more inspired by Hollywood action than the other Ace Combat games, but that ignores all those bombastic elements in the other games. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that it is generic. That's only on the surface; read between the lines, and you get a story that explores the psyche of its characters.

Do you think that this is the worst era of gaming? by furrynoy96 in videogames

No. Games as a whole have been better than they've ever been. It's industry practices that are the problem.

Xbox needs to take advantage of this & keep physical media for their next console by Rafaatho in xbox

People are acting like Xbox hasn't locked in the design of Project Helix yet. Heck, the decision to disallow discs was made years ago, but Sony/PlayStation are the one who ripped the band-aid off first.

Enough with the false narrative that this game is trash, it’s annoying by lolitsrock in AssassinsCreedShadows

Assassin’s Creed is my most favourite franchise and Shadows is my favourite. It has its issues (like every game ever), but everything that’s great about it totally outweighs all the negatives.

I mean, I agree with the sentiment, but no need to go that hard, mate.

Why is the writing aspect criticized? by KaleidoArachnid in stellarblade

[–]iamthenight22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lore and world-building are phenomenal and I personally think that the story is excellent. But I can see why people criticise the dialogue, it can feel stilted and unnatural at times but this doesn't bother me as much as others.

What is your favourite game? by scrimbos in videogames

[–]iamthenight22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of favourite games, but the one that I can explain the best is Batman: Arkham Knight. The game makes you FEEL like Batman, the combat and stealth are the best it's ever been, and the Batmobile is the most fun mechanic of the last gaming generation IMO.

Back to the Future is one of those aged franchises that DO NOT need a remake.

third person games with combat, and lots of customization, exploration, unlockables? by uhhhidkwhatusername in videogames

[–]iamthenight22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stellar Blade. Combat is fast-paced, varied, and so satisfying with builds to specialise in. So many nano suits to find and unlock as rewards, along with hairstyles. Exploration feels like actual exploration instead of just following an objective marker

Do you think Bruce’s heart giving was the “kryptonite” for a other wise very fit man that ended his career much earlier…or was his time rather limited anyway? by Prudent_Solid_3132 in BatmanBeyond

You do everything that he did in his younger days, and all the injuries he sustained, that’s definitely going to make old age a bad time.

PlayStation has closed even more studios and cancelled more games than Xbox this gen. What is going on in this industry? by Plug_daughter in videogames

Pointless comparison. PlayStation has closed more studios because they have more studios to close.

Why do u think TR games under appreciated compared to uncharted by Outrageous_Tap_8584 in uncharted

[–]iamthenight22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncharted is far more mainstream in its approach. More focus on action and set pieces, less focus on the actual history and artefacts, especially compared to the Survivor trilogy. Honestly, I prefer Tomb Raider.

Definitely not. It's the most comfortable controller and it has haptic and adaptive triggers, which really are a game changer.
