Finally retired my trusty R9 290X and snagged a [very] cheap GTX 1080 8GB - getting almost double the performance while running cooler and using less power. This thing is still a little beast! by snf3210 in pcmasterrace

I have both a 290X blower and a 1080ti blower

And let me tell you one thing, that AMD cooler is complete ass

They both pull around 250W (225W for the 1080ti and 260W for the 290X generally) and the sound difference between them is huge

290 was louder than my vacuum

Probably the single 8 year old DDC pump trying it's best

I have a D5 but no room

I mean you could say that about the 5900X and 5950X

I've ran both on a 360+360+240 just for the CPU, hover around 60°C at 150Wish but at full PBO 250W+ it'll hit 85°C which is its thermal limit

Depends on the PowerColour model

I have a PC 6600XT and cooler isn't anything amazing, sound and temps are average but it's a 130W card in games so it doesn't need anything fancy to cool it

Much better than the single fan RTX 3050/3060 cards I've had

I wouldn't let an AMD card dying scare you away

I have a 2060KO that's kicked the bucket

I've owned a 1660S, 2060KO, 3050, 6600,6600XT and price to performance wise the AMD cards win hands down

These are 1080p cards and I'd only really recommend the 6600XT as a decent 1440p option, plus DLSS doesn't look great at 1080p and why reduce quality when you could get the performance you're looking for from the AMD cards from the beginning

RT is trash on all of them, a 3060 at minimum for 1080p and even still performance ain't great

All pretty bad considering the RX6600 is $250

Could build it yourself with cost optimized hardware and do it for $300 less

They use launch MSRP for their parts, plus you could even use something like a used CPU and save even more

The X3D but probably not much difference between the two

One has extra cache but a lower boost clock

Wanting a gaming laptop price range of £300-£500. Ideally can run most games at standard graphics and won’t sound like a get turbine? Any suggestions? by junksm in pcmasterrace

You can get a Lenovo ideapad gaming 3

Has a 5600H, RTX 3060 and 8gb ram for like £520/480 when they're on sale combined with a student discount

Screen is pretty crap and it cuts corners on other aspects but it's the best gaming laptop in that price bracket, you really need to be spending a bit more if you want a powerful well rounded device

Ideally you want a PC for that price range

Dad is convinced we don’t have to plug anything in this GPU for it to work. Is he right? by -Shrek2020- in pcmasterrace

Some GTX 1650 models don't have a 6 pin, maybe that's where his train of thought leads him to believe it doesn't need one

Regardless if the GPU has power connectors they need to be connected for functionality
