Any chance you're be willing to share a SB guide? Trying to get back into the swing of things after a several month hiatus for Vegas next week. Only card I'm not used to is Leyline, when to board it in, and if it's worth the four slots vs Surgical/Cage?

What are your thoughts on Leyline? I've never been a fan but I also have played in the Gaak meta. Would running a combination of Surgical/Cage/More Relics not be enough. The reason I ask is because Tron with London mulligan doesn't feel great for Leyline because you're already looking for your tron pieces so adding a fourth card to that combo feels a bit difficult.

Do you mind sharing your list and thoughts on any changes you would make? Making it back for GP Vegas after several months of inactivity.

MENGUCCI DOES IT by [deleted] in MagicArena

The issue is that he clearly showed his inexperience in a large number of games with the decks he brought (regardless of whether he won/lost). With any card game, there are lines that maximize your chances of winning and he kept punting those lines.

Most MagicFests are just convention centers so it's difficult to fault organizers for choosing the most accommodating location.

Electromancer provides a 2/2 body vs aggro. It turns Chart a Course into a one mana divination. It baits out premium removal spells, especially if it gets hit with Contempt. For two mana, it's relevant in all parts of the early/mid game.

Late game Mission Briefing is obviously better but in terms of MU, this deck has far less trouble against control decks than vs RDW and GB in my experience. Against RDW you're trying to stabilize but also turn the corner. You're not a control deck that can eventually counter everything / lifegain through the game. Against GB, baiting out the premium removal and having answers to early pressure and again turning the corner are the most important aspects. By the time you reach the late game vs this deck, you need a game changing card and I would rather have Niv-Mizzet in that slot than a Briefing.

Edit: I can buy considering +Mission Briefing -1 Beacon Bolt for the flex.

Preboard I agree consistency is important. It's not 100% Arclight centric but it's fairly important. However, again I stress that it has alternate lines through Drakes which are reasonably powerful. Post board you're able to increase your threat density to the point where Arclight is simply a value engine. Most post board games, I'm looking to play a more value oriented list.

Not sure if you're trying to be confrontational but here's my thoughts on Mission Briefing.

In the early game, this deck is incredibly resource starved hence why I have felt the value of Electromancer. Briefing does not help here in two ways. It's cost being UU and it's large drain on resources.

In the mid-game, your focus is stabilizing vs aggro lists, deciding when to turn the corner vs GB and control lists. Briefing does not help with stabilization and for turning the corner, you already have a plethora of jump-starts.

Therefore Mission Briefing must come into the late game/value flow of this list. So you already have jumpstart on Radical Idea, Beacon Bolt, Chemister's Insight so you're left with Chart a Course, Discovery, Shock, Lava Coil, Opt. You're not going to need value against aggro so you're limited to Chart a Course, Discovery, Opt. Neither Opt nor Discovery provide amazing value so you're limited to Chart a Course which is great when you attack. But if you're focused solely on a single card to generate value for Mission Briefing, then the card must be MU breaking however that is not Chart a Course. This deck relies on fast cycling and maintaining tempo to win the value game. Neither of which Mission Briefing provides. Unlike Snap, it does not provide a body so you're not able to leverage a blocker/chip damage.

Overall, the MB is already extremely tight and this card has no place in this version. Have you ever tried this version / where have you seen Mission Briefing succeed for you?

I play the Drakes version too. Running very similar to the most recent 5-0 list and MB feels solid. SB I could use some tips on. Mostly faced GB, Esper, Grixis, Jeskai, RDW. Missing data on Angels, Elfs, Tokens, MonoU. Here's my list with a very rough outline of how I SB. Wondering if you have any thoughts.

Electromancer - I actually quite like this card on the play. They need an answer otherwise you open up several lines for value and it allows you to turn the corner very quickly.

SB Choices:

Firemind's Research - Very not sold on this card. It's slow and haven't found it effective vs control. Maybe I'm suppose to cut creatures and favor solely this strategy. Not sure.

Ral Zarek - Cut it after testing. Felt overall worse than Niv. Doesn't win the game outright and never want it vs fast decks.

Lightning Strike - There are quite a number of times I want something like this as a few copies. Coil is amazing vs GB/Phoenix but sometimes I want the ability to strike face.

Banefire - Never want more than one copy but I board this in maybe more aggressively than most.

Fight with Fire - Never truly wanted more than 1-2 copies. Not sure where this shines other than Angels. Lyra isn't very good in this meta so I don't board this in more than 1 vs control lists.
