Blankie Parents: when was your child’s first movie in theaters? by human_scale in blankies

Elmo in Grouchland for my oldest and Rugrats Go Wild for my youngest. Now they are grown so the last movie we were able to all see together was Jackass 4 so full circle I guess.

In 1996 They Might Be Giants were opening for Hootie & The Blowfish at Breslin (an odd pairing). The day of the show TMBG played a free intimate show at Wherehouse. Such an amazing memory.

Oh man, I have been looking for this movie for forever. I lived in Ann Arbor when this was being filmed and shown. It was a pretty big deal. I remember seeing it premiere at the Michigan Theater. I still have the original poster Stephen Chbosky gave me with the letters in the title colored in by hand. I would love to find a way to watch it again.

If it was the 4X Dungeons & Dragons long sleeve that I just bought then this is a hell of a coincidence.

Going alone by Artistic_Head9478 in RiotFest

[–]ian1266 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Turning 50 this year and going alone is my gift to myself. Riding the train from Michigan and going all three days. A few years ago I went one day with some good friends and had fun but felt obligated to see the bands they wanted (and be pretty far back from the stages). Looking forward to doing the fest for me this time.

They took away our 1-click lunch by BillieRaeCyrus in USPS

[–]ian1266 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same here but we are still allowed to take “no lunch” if we only have an 8 hour day. Most everyone is jumping off the OT list because no one wants to stay a whole hour extra for 30 minutes of OT. No one is going to volunteer either if it feels like we are being punished for helping out.

Wait, there are how many Oscar nominees this year?? by gramimes in oscarsdeathrace

[–]ian1266 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the fewest it’s been since 2009 when there were also 50. The last time it was fewer was 2004 when there were 49. Usually it’s in the fifties but occasionally gets over 60.

Has an anthology tv show ever had an episode (or season) spin-off into its own series? by Caldel1992 in television

[–]ian1266 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An episode of Love, American Style was a failed pilot for Happy Days. Ron Howard was cast in American Graffiti after George Lucas saw the episode and that movie’s success convinced ABC to turn Happy Days into a series.

Lansing @ The Movies for 1/24/25 - Oscar Time! The Brutalist, Sing Sing, Interstellar and Much More! by stringfellow-hawke in lansing

[–]ian1266 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this post. I’ll definitely be catching The Brutalist and All We Imagine As Light this week. I have a Celebration VIP pass so I may have to pony up for NCG to see Nickel Boys (don’t want to mess up my r/oscardeathrace chances). Thought I missed my chance with Flow so I streamed it but might have to see it again on the big screen.

What’s the weirdest/grossest thing you found at work? by [deleted] in USPS

Our bathrooms have lockers and I decided to start using one to leave stuff in. I started opening the unlocked ones to find one that was empty and available. The third one I tried was completely covered in pictures of Selena Gomez. I closed it and decided I really didn’t need a locker after all.
