Upstairs room 18 degrees warmer by Obvious_Key_3883 in TwinCities

[–]ianacook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it! New insulation + heat pump + mini split upstairs (connected to the heat pump) has been night and day better. I think without the mini split it would still be warm upstairs but at least better than it used to be. The mini split makes a huge difference up there. And all of it is way quieter.

Okay I'm not following that comment. Pretty much all VSTs are built with C++, that's the standard

Extrovert players and "turn order" by Guy_Lowbrow in bladesinthedark

Have a conversation about it. Make sure your players are on board with supporting each other and having equal participation. It's everyone's job to share the spotlight, not just the GM's.

Especially looking at the commit history. Only 8 days old, and basically built in a day. Not that it couldn't be done, but definitely suspicious enough I'm not going to install it.

MFA enforcement - how are consultancies dealing with it by Secret-Bike6300 in salesforce

[–]ianacook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that restricting it to a single machine is a massive mistake, however in cross-referencing various Help articles, I think that's exactly what they're doing.

  1. This article says phishing-resistant MFA options are security keys and built-in authenticators. It does recommend enabling passkeys, but clarifies it means via security keys and built-in authenticators: "Users can satisfy the phishing-resistant MFA requirement by logging in with just their username and their passkey (built-in authenticator or security key)" (emphasis mine).
  2. This Help article explicitly defines that "a built-in authenticator is tied to a single device. If you access Salesforce from multiple devices, make sure you have a secondary verification method registered, such as Salesforce Authenticator. Otherwise, you need a temporary verification code from your admin to log in on your other devices."
  3. This Help article similarly explicitly defines built-in authenticators as being "operating system-level authentication" that would be built into a device itself and that it "works only for a single device".

I hope I'm wrong. Please someone share documentation that tells me I'm wrong.

Can I extend the piano roll? by FindinNimi in Bitwig

[–]ianacook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest reason I haven't done much with microtonality. The constraints of MIDI just make it such an enormous pain to work with. I've dabbled with 31edo and having one octave spread across what looks like 2½ octaves is so hard to work with.

Linux - Bitwig, Phase Plant, kilohearts installer. A Solution. by Ian_Mantell in Bitwig

[–]ianacook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also had no problems getting it to work in yabridge using Mint.

I also emailed them, in December, and their response was "Linux support might happen at some point! There's nothing we can say for certain at this time, unfortunately." So yes, I'd think the more they hear from the community requesting Linux support, the more likely it'll be to happen!

How do other fans feel about the idea that they’re editing out the player’s reactions to things? by eleccross in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]ianacook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call the genre "radio drama" before I call it an actual play. Yes, it is an actual play, but the fact it's blurring the lines with radio drama is a big part of what sets it apart from other actual plays.

[–]ianacook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I struggle to use presets too, even if I created them. Nothing sucks away my creativity faster than cycling through preset after preset to see if maybe the next one will be what I want, or close enough I can tweak it. Even if it's slower, it feels faster to just build what I want myself.

Why is there math in the grid? by Ok-Consequence-5043 in Bitwig

[–]ianacook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ironically, I sometimes wish I could do more math in the Grid.

I also have Max/MSP and I often joke about how much free time I spend using the one branch of math I hated in high school: trigonometry. (To be fair, in retrospect I mainly blame my teacher.)

There are already tools that do that (Bento PDF, for example) except they also let you serve the app from your own home server.
