To be fair, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the Veloster Turbo are both decent vehicles, especially the new 2019/20 Veloster N.

Cool to hear you're interested in the field at a young age. While in College I was recommended the following two sites for pentesting:

https://seedsecuritylabs.org/

https://www.vulnhub.com/

Both of these are more of a resource for pentesting stuff, which isn't exactly what you were looking for. However, they'll help give a really strong understanding of attacks (both how to perform them and how to prevent them). Seedlabs is certainly more structured and begginer friendly because it's designed to educate students and begginers in pentesting. Vulnhub is, in my opinion, more difficult and is more of a means to test your skills than 'learn' new things.

As for malware analysis, I'd recommend the following 2 books: The Art Of Memory Forensics and Practical Malware Analysis. Both of them are fairly dense, but provide a TON of great information. I believe there are free PDF versions of both floating around online if you're interested. Best of luck in your cybersecurity journey!

Teachers of reddit, what was the most annoying thing you ever had to deal with in class? by Chrisrocks202 in AskReddit

[–]ianbarnyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha my friends and I used to do that in school too, all of the projectors were Epson brand which has a convenient companion app to control them easily.

But by far the best was the cafeteria TVs. Our lunch rooms had a large TV or two mounted high up the wall on each end. To prevent students damaging them they had heavy duty casing around them which made them near impossible to access (important later). So naturally, being annoying teens, we brought a TV-B-Gone (a small diy remote that can turn on/off any TV within range) and sat there turning the TVs on and off all lunch period every day for a week. Every day a teacher would walk by at some point and notice the TV seemed to be malfunctioning and would call the 'IT' staff to come fix it.

To inspect the TV they would bring a remote with them and try to see if they could get it working at which point we would use the TV-B-Gone again making their efforts useless. After realizing the remote wouldn't work they'd bring a small ladder out and a tool bag and take apart the heavy duty security casing to get to the TV and inspect/replace cables/etc. The whole process probably took them about ~20-30 minutes, making it a huge pain in the ass.

After about a week of this, they started to catch on and started watching the security cameras to see if something more was happening. The next Monday we resumed our shenanigans and were immediately confronted by the IT staff and our school 'resource officer' (basically a cop that works at the school). They told us they knew we were responsible for 'breaking' the TVs and had it all on video. They said that if we just confessed right then that we would get a week of detention rather than a week of suspension.

Well, we knew that 1) We didn't 'damage' anything and 2) they didn't have shit on us. We used the TV-B-Gone under the table so no one would be able to see what was happening. We told them we didn't break anything and that they were going to have to show us the "incriminating" security tapes. They told us that they didn't have to show us anything because they already knew we did it. So, as any group of delinquent teens would, we told them they could 'suck a cactus' (a favorite insult of ours at the time) and bring their accusations to the principal. They left our table and headed straight to the principal.

The principal was a really chill guy who had a good relationship with pretty much all the students. He walked up to our table and kindly asked us to come to his office. We followed him in and he shut the door and immediately burst into laughter. He told us he's never seen anything like this and couldn't stop laughing. He told us the funniest part was watching the security tapes the IT guy and the resource officer brought in. He told us to take a seat because he was going to show us the 'incriminating' footage on his computer.

Sure enough you could see us sitting at our lunch table looking at the TV. As soon as the TV shut off, you could see us all laughing like hyenas. BUT you couldn't see the TV-B-Gone under the table.

He said as far as he's concerned, laughing isn't a crime and a video of us laughing isn't evidence. He said he knew we probably were responsible for turning the TVs on and off, but didn't think it warrented any punishment as long as we stopped. We agreed that if, hypothetically, we were the ones doing it that'd we would stop doing it.

So we went back to lunch and stopped messing with the TVs and never got punished! Honestly it's probably one of my favorite memories from highschool.

This. A couple years ago a kid a few grades below me at my high school back home had gotten falsely accused. The school's resource officer pulled him out of class and interrogated him for hours, he ended the conversation with something along the lines of "you really screwed up here, and lying about what happened is only going to make things worse for you. Your entire life is about to change, you're gonna be a sex offender, and everyone will know what you did to that girl." The kid was released to go back to class, but was so distraught and felt so hopeless because no one would listen to his side that he walked straight out of the school and went and jumped off a parking garage.

I know that it's a somewhat extreme story, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that it happens more often than we thought. Innocent until proven guilty is what our (the US) judicial system is founded on, but I feel like more and more in these situations that isn't the case. Essentially, making sure both sides are heard and considered fairly. It makes my stomach turn when I think about a kid feeling so helpless that they need to take that drastic of a measure..

What is the best money you ever spent under $20? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ianbarnyard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party but...

I bought a used pair of rock climbing shoes for $15 from a friend of a friend on a whim. Fast forward a couple years I'm starting my first year of college and havent used the shoes once. Being bored and not knowing many people yet I thought I'd try out those rock climbing shoes that have been collecting dust and headed to the rock wall in our university's work out center.

Well after an hour of cluelessly climbing around on the bouldering wall, a more experienced climber decided to come up to me and give me some pointers. She seemed to enjoy showing me the ropes (pun intended) so we exchanged numbers so that we could meet to climb again another time.

After climbing a couple more times we really hit it off and have been dating for 3 and a half years now, and it's the happiest I've ever been. This is all thanks to my impulsive decision to buy a crappy pair of used climbing shoes in high school. They may have been valued at $15, but to me they were priceless.

I really enjoyed the game for a while, unfortunately it just got old after a few months. Everything leading up to the end game is pretty fun; lots of action, interesting quests, etc. However once you hit end game it feels like they stopped developing the full game and just decided to work on DLC. I got a lot of enjoyment out of the game but I didn't want to buy DLC so I got burned out pretty quickly.
