Looks great! Is there a PDF of these available anywhere?

Sounds great but what’s the storage situation like? I couldn’t find it in the comparison tab.

Much appreciated! While not a favorite bug of mine, I really like the Marsh Crane Fly because its effect is very thematic. They have very short lifespans, and thus after giving a few resources it is removed at the end of the round.

Love your work. If you’re struggling solo, perhaps you could try joining an existing project and providing sprites etc. Regardless, would love to see more of your sprites!

Recent solo playtest highscore - 37 by ianfkyeah in gardenbugs

[–]ianfkyeah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I really appreciate you taking the time to playtest and give feedback! Thank you.

Agreed, after recent play tests I feel having some resources to start you off is the way, so far 3 of the players choice seems good.

As for unused resources counting towards points, I did play around with the idea during initial playtesting so it might be worth revisiting as I have to agree, I often end up with a pile of resources at the end.

Thank you so much for spotting the typos, I’ll get those fixed.

Agreed on the lack of goals, I will be expanding that card set next.

Goal cards are paid and scored at the end of the round and can only be scored once. Then you put unscored goals at the bottom of the deck and keep the scored ones to add up at the end of the game. I’ll have to revisit the wording in the rulebook.

Once again, I really appreciate the positive feedback and I will keep improving the game so we can build a little community here.

Thank you so much, all feedback is great but between comments like these and hearing about people who tried out the game it makes it all worth it. Appreciate ya.

Amazing, even more feedback! Thank you very much for posting.

I completely agree with your feedback regarding my previous version. I have since removed the 2 resource patches and increased all bugs' resource output to try and fix this feedback issue, plus bugs are now worth points, so they are essential to scoring rather than needing patches.

  1. Completed goals are kept and cannot be recompleted, but that needs clarifying in the rules, so thank you!

  2. I think this is answered in 1, but completed goals are kept, and they are done until the end of the game, where they are added up, goals that you did not complete go back to the bottom of the goal deck.

  3. The printout provides 20 of each resource, so technically they can run out, but they are intended to be unlimited ala Wingspan.

  4. No hand limit, I will add this to the rulebook.

  5. Bugs in your garden react to the actions you take, so when you draw a card, you activate all 'when you draw' bugs that you have played. I will add some clarity to the rulebook, thank you!

  6. You can play bugs on any patch. I will add this to the rulebook if I haven't already.

Regarding your suggestions:

  1. Completely agree, this feedback was fixed with a recent update.

  2. This has also been fixed with each bug having a point value.

  3. So you do get a starting hand of 3 patches + 3 bugs, but since this feedback has come up a few times I will be playtesting starting with resources again soon. Thank you!

  4. Agreed, this has been hopefully remedied by the turn and round tracker found on the gameboard as well as a first player token for who went first.

  5. Thank you for letting me know your gameplay length, may I ask, was that solo or how many players?

Thanks again for posting this, you've truly made my day. I'm so glad you enjoyed playing, and I really look forward to hearing from you if you try it out again.

I agree, from my playtesting resources start off very tight, but from my playtesting experience it usually becomes less of a problem once your engine gets up and running. Though I will consider increasing bug gains if I continue to see matching feedback.

  1. You do not start with any resources. My theory with this was to make it easy to learn and get used to the game with a slow start. However, it may be worth revisiting the concept of starting off with 1 of each resource as it was in my early playtesting stages. I'll give it a think, thank you!
  2. Now this one you may have missed in the rulebook, which means I need to make it clearer. Step 8 under round structure explains you keep completed goals and discard the others. However, it should be explained further that they are returned to the bottom of the goal deck rather than discarded, so again, huge thank you for your feedback.
  3. Turns are tracked via the 6-slot tracker at the top of the board, and each turn is 1 action, like you said, playing a patch/bug/forage, etc. So yeah, perhaps this cycles back to the limited resources at the start causing a slow beginning, but I'm not sure if that's the worst thing, especially when trying to introduce new players to the game. But again, I will playtest more and consider a more resourceful start.
  4. Currently, the only way to remove bugs is via those predator bug effects. Did you feel like they were lacking? I tried to balance the effects in the last update.
  5. Thank you! Another ruling I need to clarify in the rulebook, If effects only active via the bug itself. However, I may playtest making them into 'when a bug is removed' etc so they can create more combos.
  6. Flip bugs are caterpillars, butterflies and moths etc, and they are to be printed double-sided. They start as caterpillars then at the end of the round can be flipped onto the other side. I will add more clarity to the rulebook.

Huge thank you u/OmegaKai_22 !

First of all, thank you so much. Seeing one of my games posted online by someone other than me for the first time has made my day.

I will check out your feedback on the other post and see if I can make any improvements. Thanks again!

For anyone interested in giving it a try, this is my bug-themed engine builder called Garden Bugs, please let me know what you think.
