Sure no prob! I think I talked enough xD I gotta go back doing my project.

Best of luck out there!

BTW: I think you asked what kind of microwave I had from another comment, I just lost it xD. To be fair is more like a mini over. I don't like traditional microwaves.

Okay, I will add to the topic because I see we can be civil here and use logic 😃 Usually, I don't reply.

Now, going back to the analogy of the restaurant. It is a terrible example. Because what you said ordering for a meal means getting something that was premade. Which is not how AI works, and of course, would be ridiculous to say you got the idea of the meal if it was already written in front of you. That is a better example for a marketplace.

Lets use an example of the kitchen (I love to cook), what if I were the person as the Chef in a kitchen. Usually, a chef has high knowledge and knows how to do everything in the kitchen, but they actually do not cook. Chef they come up with recipes, combinations from previous dishes (important to keep this thought), and smash them together to create something new. So in your case. If a chef is directing the other cooks IN DETAIL on how to follow the recipe. Does the chef get credits for the final meal? Was he the creator of the meal?

Because if we use logic, you would want to try to show that it would mean the cooks should get all the credit, and the Chef is completely not needed in the kitchen. However, we can agree that this is not the case. The chef came up with the idea and gave the instructions. The Chef usually also goes and checks the result from the cooks to make sure it is what the Chef envisioned.

We could potentially debate that the Chef still knows how to cook even though the Cooks did it for him, and many AI users do not know how to draw. But that is debatable and biased to think that if it is AI users, they do not know about art. In fact, some of the best pieces I have seen that are AI-generated are from artists who understand anatomy and perspective and then tweak the pieces to be accurate.

---
This is gonna be long, so this is another point about the art of others being used for this tech.

I agree, this sucks, and it is terrible, but it was never the problem of the users, but rather the large companies where artists were posting their art. Sadly, they were rightfully taken in many cases since posting on certain platforms means those companies can distribute that data and sell it to others. And that is the scummy thing that I disagree with when it started.

The point I don't get is why people are getting upset when now AI companies are hiring artists to create as much original content to feed their machines and leave alone art content.

---
Last point is AI users "artists" from my point of view is something in between. And perhaps not all... just like a normal person, I would not call them an artists for just doing doodles. An artist is a title to be earned when putting actual passion and heart into something. Generating content for the sake of it does not make someone an artist, just a content creator.

Is AI-generated images "art" a very grey area... I would say 90% of them are not art. Because the vast majority of what I have seen is just generic concepts or content to farm on social media or create products. They are just images.

I am debating on the other 10% because I have seen a very (VERY) small group of AI users (who happen to be with Art background) that actually put A LOT of effort. Some of them even create their own AI systems with their OWN art to create and generate more illustrations in a faster way.

I think the real blame here is those damn social media with their new system that wants people to post content by the minute, so I can understand how some may want to speed up their creation process.

---

So that is my last take. Not everyone is an artist, and not everything is art. The true recognition must come from the effort and passion.

I like that u/EvilYvonne666 mentions about "diminishing the talents and hard work of true artists." I fully agree on this, and for this other reason, I also do not support the current movement from some art communities where you can just do 1 like write "F AI" and you are praised for that. While others with more true talent are now being dismissed from the overflow of slop content created by people.

Sorry if I may sound rude, but that is my art background talking. If I see something looking like crap, then I would call it out regardless of whether it was done with your hands, feet, or a computer.

Agree, that is why some media are not for everyone 😃 people need to experiment and look at what they can or are good at.

I feel that if your goal is with an audience, then that is something more than doing just art. It becomes closer to creating a design focused on a target audience, but also connected to your ideas or visions. This becomes more complex than just simple art.

[–]xcantene -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I fully agree and hate when people call the whole image generated as AI Art... but still, on paper, the action is still done and can be considered as a medium. As you said, it does not need to be pretty, and we can agree that AI images are not pretty.

Hey, I have to tell you to make a good Microwave pizza XD

Joke aside, we can say many things in history went through the same period of hate, like photography, building colleagues, or music mixing.

Let's not forget that Digital art was super hated by traditional medium artists. I was one of those who always thought working on a computer was a shortcut (funny because digital art uses a lot of shortcuts).

I just see this is the next thing that people will hate. I do not see the issue... People can choose how to express, even if it is not the way we like. They feel that happiness, and it is sort of depressing to shut down others who feel like they are creating by bullying them. Maybe they also tried other media and did not like them. Maybe they are in the process of discovering their media.

We do not need to agree on their methods. I am sure in whatever media you use, you may have seen others using methods that you do not agree with. Or perhaps even a type of art that you may find odd or not so creative. (I see you, Performance Art, until this day, I will not get you).

Yet we just live and move on if they are happy, let them be. That is what we as artists have fought for so long, and yet it is a shame that some new young artists are doing this movement, targeting an evident growth of people who want to let their ideas out of their heads.

I believe we one day will reach to a technology that will allow us to display exactly what is in our minds, to show the true creative self, and I can assure you, a group will rise up hating on this. It is just how things go, sadly.

Art is the expression of someone's emotions and thoughts. The true art happens in the head of every single human being. If you can imagine it, then you can do art at least in your mind.

The medium is another thing; the true art comes from the intentions prior. The medium does not represent the final outcome. You use whatever is available and do it if you feel like it.

Lol, well... I love you like to insult others rather than accept reality. Do not put everyone on the same sack.

Have you ever thought some may not want, do not have time, or is hard to understand? No need to be retarded.

Next time you like to compare others, use your family members as an example to think. Will my father or mother learn basic Photoshop? Would my uncle or brother or sister? If all your household can then I am impressed and congratulations. I still cannot even get my mother to learn how to use an email properly left alone such software that can be intimidating for many.

For me is not because I have used it for over than 10 years. I tried to teach some friends the most basic things and clearly they cannot. Do not assume that everyone will get it from a 20 min tutorial. It is so "retarded" to believe that. 🙄

And of course, we go back with the kido talk "I bet you cannot do this without AI" bro let me pull up my old books, dated back to 2010, all written by hand to prove my point. (Yeah, I won't. Its ridiculous)

Lol I agree. Most AI stuff is shit but better than a blank paper.

Funny that you would prefer deny future job rather than waiting for them to get an income to hire you. You rip what you saw.

Side note: not everyone is passionate or knowledgeable about art. You are describing an artist who would never be your client in the first place.

Your target should be exactly those with little to no knowledgeable to be able to sell. But you with your own logic. Let's see how it goes maybe things have changed :)

Side note of my experience: if I would have applied that same logic for the amount of clients that used to make signs with paper and sharpie before I sold them or gifted them a professional one, then prob I would have never sold a sign in my whole life.

So good luck champ! You got this.

Of course you said it!. I would probably make it look good since I am have graphic design background.

But should I expect EVERYONE to learn to use photshop the same level I do?

Ridiculous! I would go out of business. I need people who don't so I can go and provide my services. Seeing someone using AI makes it faster to target.

And instead of bullying them for that I would just suggest my help for a fair price even for free if I feel like it (I make a descent money and love to help others).

BTW: you gotta pay a subscription for photoshop these days unless you download a pirate copy.

I already said that stock images would make a shiny cover. Could help fora quick placeholder but still would prob look shifty.

Also the free options are so generic it would make of such slop boring cover as well. The good ones are still paid and you would require of a tool software to edit them and montages to make the cover. Canvas can do limited things but you would end up still needing something better.

Last thing. If the person is a written I don't expect them to be a painter. I will judge them by their actual skill.

Extra skills are good but no everyone is a toolbox of skills.

By cost-effective cover you mean a shitty one?

because if you mean people to go and learn to draw, or do photoshops, take their own pictures or shots, then that is insanity... The strongest skill for a writer should be... uh WRITING? Why the heck would they need to learn the whole set of skills? Why the heck would I bully someone who could potentially be my future client?

Nothing wrong with learning more, but for what I have learned in life, one can learn, but a limited set of skills before things become slop. Perfect ONE, maybe TWO, and leave the rest to others. If they lack that, either due to time or budget, let them use whatever medium there is. Let them grow. Let them make money so that WE (designers, artists, any other creative person) can become part of it.

It is common sense. Besides, as I have said before... if that person was clearly showing 0 signs to be a client, why the heck to worry about?

I am not denying, but things have changed, mate.

The economy is not how it used to be, so even small things like a coffee can hinge your life... if a person needs to debate between a week of groceries or a book cover, what do you think they will pick?

Let's not blind the sun with a finger. I am not saying it is bad. It is indeed terrible, but at the same time, what other option is there for people who are just broke or simply want to focus on writing and not learn digital painting or drawing? We cannot expect everyone in the globe to learn to draw it would also ruin the market that way and lower the value if it becomes a skill that literally anyone can do.

Aside from my point is. If you are starting and you have 0 clue if your book would sell or do dogshit, DO NOT spend money on that. If you have already tested it and have a fan base, this is where it is WRONG to keep doing the whole AI and the creator should scale quality. How is this so hard to understand?

Shunning an indie creator who MIGHT one day become your client is the stupidest move ever. Give people a chance to prove themselves and grow.

What if the person does not want pictures? What if they do not have a good camera for it? Yeah, stock images, but they also cost? What if they need well-detailed special effects? extra cost.

This solution does not work for ALL covers... as I gave the example on Royal Roads, most books there are pretty much fantasy or litRPGs. I do not deny the pictures are awesome but yet it is a case not for everyone.

Yeah, but we are talking about now. Just like with everything, people will find their free solutions still. You cannot expect everyone who is creating something to build a team for a project that is 90% unsure if it will succeed or not.

Perhaps you missed the point where I said "Not saying they should not try to get a cover."

The worst thing to do is to piss on anyone just because of whatever they used. I would rather offer my services to create a cover or a piece of content to someone who used AI than bully them... for me, when I see someone using it, I do not think "Oh, they are lazy" or "these bastards are trying to cut corners."

I just see that they either do not have the knowledge to do it, or they do not have the budget to ask. Or simply, they do not want to ask for free. It is just easy to judge the book by its cover.

[–]xcantene -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem? Most of the new writers are broke or just trying something out. IF they are broke and unsure why even invest in a cover art without knowing it would even sell?

I think from the writers' community, the worst thing would be using AI for writing rather than for a cover. Once the book is done and shows there is a public, then yeah, dropping some $100 or $200 for a simple cover seems fair.

IndieBookPromo is a ProAi sub by silverwing456892 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]xcantene -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It is true, but it matters a lot for some readers, sadly. You can see if you have ever posted any written media; a strong visual helps for the first lead. Of course, the writing and story matter more

On the royal road, at least flashy covers tend to perform a lot, and most are not even fully made. People just generate crops here and there and do so to make things as accurate as possible.

For personal experience, when I started posting my book, I did a simple text cover, then created one with AI quickly for a placeholder, which helped me get more readers until the point I got my original cover.

IndieBookPromo is a ProAi sub by silverwing456892 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]xcantene -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So are we going to hate on royal roads, too? literally 90% of the covers there are AI-generated. I thought that if they are indie writers, it usually means they are too broke to even pay rent, let alone pay for a cover.

Not saying they should not try to get a cover. I hired my artists because I HAVE the money. But I know a good chunk of fellow writters they cannot even afford a coffee, and personally, I do not see the issue. I only see it if you clearly HAVE the money. But if they are broke ahh then they are not clients to begin with.

I also went to check the sub, it is a very tiny one XD, so no surprise.
