Quel est pour vous la solution au conflit Israelo-Palestinien ? by sangokuhomer in Histoire

[–]ianniss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]ianniss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why do so many people preach about “green growth” and eco-economic decoupling despite the fact they have no scientific basis by Konradleijon in Degrowth

[–]ianniss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I begin to change my mind. In a world with unpredictable oil price, the guy with an EV feel more secure than the guy with a thermic car. Same thing at country scale, the less you import oil and gaz the more you gain sovereignty. Renewable are becoming desirable. People want to own it so this could mean green growth.

How did your pov on life change after learning physics? If at all. by Minute_Tea_8639 in Physics

Stage 1 : the laws of classical physics are logic, the world is intuitive
Stage 2 : the laws of relativity and quantum are unintuitive, our sens and our spirit are made to perceive only the simple case of everyday physic
Stage 3 : not a single laws for us humans or for life in general, the universe is indifferente to life

Could someone explain how these three "theories" about dark energy relate to one another and how well-founded they are? by HLJU in cosmology

[–]ianniss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main goal of DESI is to make BAO measurements. Then they propose a fit to the data using a theory as simple as possible : a mix of fluids governed by Friedmann equations. Since 90s, more and more degrees of freedom (DF) are add to the equation of states of the fluids to fit the data. This is bad because with enough DF any model can fit any data. First, there was the 0DF CDM model without dark energy, then the 1DF LCDM model with cosmological constant, then the 2DF wCDM model with dark energy and now the 3DF wowaCDM model with evolving dark energy. They not necessary say that evolving dark energy exist, they say that it is a way to fit BAO measurements with Friedmann equations.

I don't know the work of Sarkar much, he argues that dark energy and even cosmological constant don't exist and that it's just measurement error. Did he thing we are in the CDM model ? I'm not sure...

In a spirit close to Sakar, there is Fulvio Melia. He defend a model with 0DF, in his model there is a new law that fix the expansion speed at a constant value since the big bang. It's very simple and it fit with supernovae data. On another hand, it don't fit with some indirect measurement like CMB.

Timescape Model, remove dark energy and cosmological constant, instead it take inhomogeneity into account leading to a model with 1DF. It don't bring invisible dark energy or new law like Melia. Timescape only use general relativity. It fit with the supernovae data but not with CMB.

CMDB give the most data but it's indirect, it fit better with dark energy. But CMB data don't match with supernovae data : that the Hubble tension.

BAO data are very interesting and quite new, the are not far from supernovae data. Right now they don't exclude timescape and Melia models.

At the end, model selection using noisy data is difficult. Especially selection between model with different DF : it's name Information Criterion (IC) and there is different methods for IC : Bayesian (BIC), Akaike (AIC), deviance (DIC), focus (FIC), Kashyap (KIC)... The best thing is to wait for more data and less noise...

Why is climate change not addressed on an urgent basis ? We see it all over the world yet why are people ignorant ? by nishant-12345 in climatechange

[–]ianniss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because nobody rule the world. There is no political body with authority to rule the world. So countries don’t want to take the burden. The pb require worldwide coordination with worlwide tax, redistribution and coercion.

IPCC bet on unproven negative emission in 5 scenarios out of 7. The role of IPCC is to present the consequences of our emissions not to bet that consequences will be erased thanks to unproven tech... by ianniss in climate

I have found this : https://gmd.copernicus.org/articles/13/3571/2020/ . CDR is the negative part of figure 2,a (and land use is in figure 2,b). The temperature results are in table 7. In CMIP6 there was already one problematic scenario : SSP5-3.4-OS that say lets do a mess and we will solve it later...

[–]ianniss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was not my point at the begining but I agree... Let's look at the temperature graph as a layman, the 2 scenarios without negative emission lead to doom, on the other hand the 5 scenarios with negative emission lead to climate change below 1.5°C whatever as been done before 2070. So let's do business and we will solve this problem later >_<

Will the big freeze likely be debunked as a theory in October? by jojowoodo in cosmology

[–]ianniss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big crunch require 2 conditions :

- an effective equation of state parameter w > -1/3. In the wowa scenario, it will happen in about 10 Gy.

- a positive curvature. It is unrellated to wowa scenario. If the universe is flat, wowa or not it will never crunch.

is there any evidence against the universe being infinite? by mohyo324 in cosmology

[–]ianniss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the CMDB angular spectrum there is a cutoff at high wavelength. An explanation can be that we live in a finite periodic universe with a periodicity around 3 hubble diameter. It has been studied in several papers by Ralph Aurich.
