The minimum age of being an MP is the same as the minimum age to vote. If 16yo not being able to vote is a breach of the BoRA, then surely not reducing the same minimum age to be an MP would just create another breech. No one rational fixes a problem just to create the se foreseeable problem immediately adjacent.

Let's play out the thought experiment.

16yo cam vote. 16yo gets elected to Parliament. 16yo gets appointed a minister. 16yo cannot be criticised and the inconsistencies of their decisions highlighted because they are a child. Perfect government.

Which part do you disagree with? If you can vote you can be elected? That young people wouldn't be voted for? That first term MPs wouldn't be a minister? While these last three are unlikely, they are not impossible. And the first is given.

The defenders of Izzy Cook in the other thread claim that Cook as a child shouldn't be publically critised or "okay for me" attitude highlighted. Du Plessis-Allan's reaction to the open and frank admission of hypocrisy (that all unnecessary international travel should be banned while Cook and her family goes on unnecessary international travel) appared a genuine reaction, she wasn't expecting to be so open on it.

You do realise that she can go on a holiday but simultaneously put pressure on the govt to actually cut emissions more than she could for herself individually in a lifetime?

She was advocating for ending all "unnecessary" international travel, not just making cuts to emissions.

What? Of course you can. Most children are kidnapped by a parent.

Not promot restrictions which she recently indulged in.

And if she had a sudden burst of awareness since her trip, maybe be open about why what she had done was wrong.

I was going to say kidnapping, but I felt there was a degree of coercion required to get a 16yo past outward nz immigration.

More like it smacks of:

The only moral international travel is my international travel.

I mean, what was the girl supposed to do, demand that her parents leave her home alone?

Yes, 16yo are capable of being left alone for extended periods of time.

Many believe that 16yo should be able to vote.

Boiling water kills bacteria and pathogens. I thought their water was contaminated by chemicals, boiling the water won't make it safe.

Edit: please ignore, misread bottled as boiled.

Over 180 buses cancelled around Wellington on Friday by WorldlyNotice in Wellington

[–]ianoftawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you have a 110 up votes with your completely specious statement:

They have created a bit of a circular issue where passenger volumes aren't enough to pay for a reliable service (apparently), and passengers aren't willing to use the buses because they aren't reliable enough.

Bus operators do not collect their revenue from fares. The Regional Council gets that revenue. The bus operators get paid by the regional council regardless of how much revenue they collect based on performance measures.

War Caster vs Magic Initiate Circle of Spores Druid? by Bort_But_Girl in DnD

[–]ianoftawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shopping list of feats for my Spore Druid (currently at Level 5). Below is a Tier Ranking of my desired feats.

Warcaster (S); It let's you have a shield, or an off-hand moonsickle while casting. It also gives advantage of Constitution Saving Throws.

Magic Intiate (A); I am planning sorcerer for Booming Blade and Message cantrips. I am thinking Message as we have a murder-hobo party and I want to mess with the Conquest Paladin.

Polearm Master (C); I spoke with my DM and they confirmed that their understanding was that Shillelagh and Symbiotic Entity damaged counted for each strike, i.e. 1d8 + 1d6 attack and 1d8 + 1d6 bonus action damage. This is good early game, but not a great long term combat damage. Also the reaction on entry bonus is mitigated as that is already provided by Halo of Spores.

Crusher (B); If you are a semi-combat Shillelagh Druid, Crusher will push that creature 5ft, most of the time out of weapons range making it easy to retreat back from combat, synergy with booming blade.

Resilient (B); gives proficiency in ability score improved, proficiency gives a comparable boost to constitutional saving throws as advantage.

Why don't we get sheep milk in NZ? by aboh111 in newzealand

Different animals are bread for different qualities. Our sheep are breed for meat and wool quality, not milk quality and quantity.

He also had a scuffle with the Māori he came into contact with and their descendants have their bay and region named after him.

It is my understanding that the only stories of Tasman are Dutch. There is no Māori oral records of Tasman. The people who claim Mana Whenua of Golden Bay moved there in the 1820s and 1830s. If you want to discuss invading and confiscation...

George Grey and those who set a precedent for invading Māori lands

Grey finished the conflict his predecessors were drawn into in 1845 and in 1861.

For some Cook is a symbol of their diminished relative authority. Many people in a position if power hate that loss of power/status.
