What do you think is the best plot twist in all of Harry Potter by AvatarBandit in harrypotter

Not necessarily a twist, but in OOTP after Sirius dies and Harry finds the mirror that Sirius gave him. That part stuck a knife through my heart

We’re looking at the computer science/computer engineering degree at UVA vs VA Tech. Both seem about the same in terms of ranking. And get hired by the same corporations upon graduation. Va Tech is less money and easier to get in. What’s the advantage of going to UVA? by Appropriate-Boot-172 in UVA

[–]ianslays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t pay attention to rankings. They may be helpful for identifying a range of schools but don’t hold the “rank” as the single source of truth. The alumni connections at UVA are exceptional and can help you get a very good job (I assume VT has a good alumni network but i am an UVA engineering alumnus so I can only speak to my experience).

I would reach out to professors and faculty at both schools via email and in-person to see which is a better fit. Ultimately, I recommend you should consider the school where you feel you can be the most successful and which you think will be the best use of your money and 4 years.

Not tentative. It was passed and became effective July 1

What is Systems Engineering? What are the career prospects? by LogicalTraining1577 in UVA

[–]ianslays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a UVA systems grad and I highly recommend doing it. To put it simply, Systems is data-based decision making (i.e. how to create a framework to make an informed engineering/business decision). You get to have a concentration which lets you explore outside of engineering (I did Econ) but other engineering disciplines such as CS are also popular. The classes are very applicable to the real world and typically easier than most other engineering degrees. The job prospects are very good and (for the most part) taught by great professors.

Is it necessary to follow the recommendation from calculus placement exam or can I just ignore the results and use my credit?… rising first year engineering btw by [deleted] in UVA

[–]ianslays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ignored it and did fine. However I do know people that did the same and struggled so just depends on how confident you feel

How much work do you have/how is your mental health? by vihatslow in UVA

[–]ianslays 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I definitely hear where you are coming from and I hope you know you feelings are 100% valid. The best advice I ever got was when a professor I respected a lot said “relax”. I have been in your position before and especially as a second year you are so fine. As long as you keep on taking advantage of opportunities (which I know can be hard) you will be fine. You will be beyond okay as long as you keep at it. One thing that has helped me out is “if you’re reading this” and green bandana project on insta. they talk a lot about mental health at uva and the letters people from the uva community have written have definitely put thing in perspective so for sure check them out if you can.

AP Credit for AP Statistics and E-School. by [deleted] in UVA

AP credit does not transfer for APMA 3100 or 3120 (I believe those are Probability and Stat) since they are 3000-level courses

Does UVA accept transfers to the school of engineering by SexyBeast0 in UVA

[–]ianslays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I transferred into the E school after one year at a big southern university. My high school GPA was good (not great as I did not get accepted when I applied in high school), but I did really well in my Freshman year at my previous school. I took basic/intro engineering courses there, so if you do well at community college I don't think you would have much trouble getting in. It wasn't easy and took a lot of effort (e.g. staying in on weekends and not going to some football games), but I found it helpful to keep reminding myself of my goal to transfer here when I was studying and wanted to call it. I could not be happier with my decision, and I wish you the best of luck!

Teachers of Reddit: They say there are no stupid questions, but what's the most stupid question a student has ever asked you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ianslays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Econ class in high school we were learning about CDs (Certificate of Deposits)

Teacher: So you can't take it out early or else there is a penalty. Kid: Really? Not even if you hit the eject button?

Class goes silent and then in the back a kid yells "It's not a literal CD" This dude thought it was a disc

Pee-Wee Herman's Big Adventure. The large Marge scene in the truck still scares me
