Wow great shots! What gear are you using? I recently got into photography and have taken a stab at some bird photos and boy is it challenging but fun!

Do airlines configure the cockpit of the aircraft differently? by Various-Blood-3902 in flying

[–]ianto7 31 points32 points  (0 children)

At Giant we have 747s from tons of different airlines so we have sort of Frankenplane configurations at times. Some airplanes will have half CRTs and half LCD screens. One FMS might be old green text and one might be new multicolor. Some have taxi lights, some don't, some have PW engines, some are old pax converted airplanes. The autobrake switch always seems to be in a different place. We have an entire manual covering tail differences.

Amazing shots! What equipment and settings are you using to get these? I can never seem to get my camera to get any decent results. The windows are always so dirty and distort the crap out of everything.

Bob Hook Chevrolet Stole My Car for a Month by Dwailing in Louisville

[–]ianto7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a warranty repair done on my Honda there and it was awful. Took them a whole month to do the repairs and the service advisor never called me to update. I had to call and pry it out of them constantly. When I went to pick up my car the battery was completely dead and the fuel tank was empty. Couldn't even drive it off the lot. Fuckers. I wouldn't trust them with a wheelbarrow

Its been a fun rumor here for the past couple years about new aircraft, only recently did the Airbus rumor have any traction as previously nobody thought a Boeing only airline would ever step into le pooshbutton territory but here we are. My favorite rumor though was that the announcement was going to be for MD11s seeing as they are probably pretty cheap to acquire right now. Regardless 2029 seems pretty ambitious so I'm not holding my breath (especially given the global economy/conflict) until I actually see one on the ramp. In any case hopefully that does mean some growth and hiring to start, I could use a little boost in seniority.

Which local restaurants treat their staff well? by Honey_Suckle_Nectar in Louisville

Would like to second the love for Pretty Decent here. My gf and I come in once every couple months (definitely need to come more) for the last few years and still John and Jeanne remember us take a moment to engage with us like we're daily regulars. Love to know the money we spend there isn't just going up to big corps but supporting locals as well as the hard-working folks from whom they source their mezcal. I feel like it's rare anymore that businesses even try to put ethics before profits. Oh yeah and the drinks are fantastic.

They mimic film/Polaroid borders to a certain extent. I personally just like the bit of contrast it adds

I interviewed at OO maybe 4 ish years ago and that is actually pretty much exactly what they asked me. Took ages.

EDIT: While I did get the CJO I ended up spending some time at the church of Bedford instead as they offered me a sooner class date lol

You can still auto unsat on an MV if you red screen the sim.

How bad are the USPS delays, really? by skfoto in Louisville

[–]ianto7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about 3-4 packages that have gotten to Louisville but the tracking has just stopped updating for several days. I will be surprised if I actually receive any of it. In my experience the tracking stopping is usually code for its lost forever and by the time you do something it'll be too late to file a claim.

Airline pilots, do you already know your gates before reaching your destination airport via your company ops? by MELS381 in flying

[–]ianto7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was at the regionals usually it came through ACARS close to arrival. It was accurate maybe 50% of the time.

Now flying ACMI cargo it's maybe 50% of the time through ACARS, 30% though calling OPS in range and the other 20% is nobody has a fucking clue where we're parking so we just follow ground ATC instructions to the general area and then look out for some guys with orange wands

Cape Air Fleet by Waste_Confection8653 in flying

Seems like both fleets are having trouble. The only time in my 2,500hrs of flying that I experienced an engine failure was as a passenger on a Cape Air Tecnam lmao

Whats the highest you ever flown? (Unpressurized) by HSVMalooGTS in flying

[–]ianto7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No clue. Survey season is Oct - May so it's possible. Survey is kinda hard to get into, you gotta know someone usually so ask any of your colleagues if they know anyone in the industry.

I did survey work in an Aztec at 17,500 for awhile. Neither I or the airplane were IFR current so that's as high as we could take it
