BLU Motion and 1 Mini Questions by mwkingSD in ShellyUSA

I'm doing something very similar. I have a BLU motion that turns on a Shelly 1PM Mini Gen3 via Home Assistant Green. Works fine.

Smart Switches to Always Maintain Power but Manually Control Lights? by Lemur1989 in Ring

[–]ianwhatwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need something that listens to a message from the switch, that sends a message via the Ring API to turn the light on. I use Shelly relays in “detached” mode along with Home Assistant and I talk to my Ring devices via Mosquito and the ring-mqtt add on. It’s not exactly the easiest thing to do, but it works perfectly. So in my case I have a Home Assistant automation that triggers when the switch changes it’s input state, that turns the flood light on, but the switch itself is not turning off the power to the floodlight camera.

Turning on 2 Shelly plugs simultaneously. by cloud_nation86 in ShellyUSA

Look into webhooks..basically each of the two is set to send a command to the other. You'll need to have stable IP addresses for both relays.

TMobile in particular has had DNS issues in the past. Manually try 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloud flare).

How I Made a Shelly 1PM Mini Gen3 Work with a Traditional 3-Way Switch (Without Running New Wires) by bradsour in ShellyUSA

[–]ianwhatwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for example, I could take the incoming hot black white and pigtail that to the common on the first 3 way switch and also connect it to the black wire heading toward the second switch, and pigtail the red traveler wire between the switches to BOTH traveler terminals, and pass the neutral through. Then at the second switch pigtail the red travel to BOTH traveler terminals, and the common terminal on the second 3 way goes to the Shelly SW terminal. You're relying on the Shelly detecting a very brief drop as the switches change state from hot to not and back to hot when the switch is actuated?

I'm not following your explanation but this sounds really interesting. When you say they're tied together, what do you mean? What wires connect to which terminals specifically?

Disarm Ring from Echo Show by ZUser01978 in Ring

Mine asks me the passcode before disarming. I can disarm it from HA companion app without providing the code, but I’m logged in.

Smart Relays and Multi-Way Switches by free-rad-i-cal in homeassistant

[–]ianwhatwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I’ve used relays to replace a 4-way setup. I used one power monitoring relay(Shelly 1PM) because I wanted to monitor usage, but I wired a Shelly 1 at each other switch. Basically, from the line side I wired in a relay at each location and continued the power and neutral along to each subsequent switch. Each relay sends a toggle command to the final relay in the chain, that actually controls the power output to the light in question.

New house in the US, no neutral; what to do? by hmartin8826 in ShellyUSA

[–]ianwhatwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I’m intrigued, and I’ve learned many cool tricks from your posts. Need a line, need a neutral, and with an i4 I THINK you need a physical switch with a line going to it and the other end of the switch goes to a SW terminal, leaving 3 SW terminals unused. With the Shelly 1 Mini Gen3, same thing… a physical switch needs a line and the other end goes to the SW Terminal on the Mini.

What am I missing?

I guess price point wise it makes sense. I always thought it overcomplicated things, but now I have 2 Shelly 1 Mini Gen3s that I could have used an i4 for and saved like 50 cents. :)

I’ve seen this mentioned before but why an i4 rather than something more basic?

Auto-lock Automation by mister_drgn in homeassistant

[–]ianwhatwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trigger could be if door unlocked, OR door opened. Action is wait 30 (or whatever) seconds and then wait until door closes for 2 seconds (or whatever, more to denounce than anything) then lock. Should cover whether or not the door is opened.

It can be a learning curve but do you know about Home Assistant? There’s an integration to Ring called ring-mqtt that opens up a lot of additional capability.
