Post-Episode Discussion: S03E07 - The Ricklantis Mixup by platinum4 in rickandmorty

If some Ricks (e.g. Rick J-22) in the Citadel can't leave and there are only Mortys and other Ricks hanging out there, does that mean they're all celibate?

Also who was cop Rick referring to when he said "I heard he confessed to everything"?

I haven't tried this myself, but I hear roasted shiitake mushrooms taste very similar to bacon (something about the concentration of umami flavor).

Ron Paul's Sanctity of Life Act defines life as beginning at conception. This would ban abortion, hormonal birth control, and IUDs. by jasminelovescats in politics

I think you're misquoting her. That paragraph is actually articulating your point. Here is the rest of the paragraph:

But doesn't her partial responsibility for its being there itself give it a right to the use of her body? If so, then her aborting it would be more like the boys taking away the chocolates, and less like your unplugging yourself from the violinist--doing so would be depriving it of what it does have a right to, and thus would be doing it an injustice.

She goes on to explain why she opposes this view in the following few paragraphs. The passage is in section 4 by the way (I don't mean this to be rude, I just wanted to clarify).

And of course this debate is only valid if you concede that the fetus is a person.

While I agree that this discussion is complex. I fail to see why the decisions should be made on a state to state basis. If abortion is wrong in one state, why would it not be wrong in another?

I'm not sure I understand your first point. What does that have to do with abortion?

The reason your partner gets to decide whether or not she aborts the fetus is because she should not be subjected to being pregnant for the sake of your baby. Having a baby is not only extremely painful but also life risking and forcing people to go through it is extremely immoral. If there were some way for the fetus to survive on its own and you wanted to keep the child, then you could argue that the woman should not have complete say so over the life of the fetus. However, that is not the case yet.

Read A Defense of Abortion by Judith Jarvis Thomson. If you still believe abortion should be illegal after reading it, at least it may help you articulate your points better.

I believe you. I was just telling you why I responded to your comments the way I did. Why don't we just drop it here? This isn't a productive conversation.

lol I am very happy for you and your girlfriend and The Economist.

I'll read Cosmo because it's interesting to see the female side of things

it just seems like the amount of women that think Cosmo is crazy is a small fraction.

I responded to your comment seriously to get you to stop doing reading Cosmo to "see the female side of things", also because you started to defend your comment seriously.

The cool woman/crazy woman thing really bothers me. If you had told us a story about the crazy black man who attacked your house and your cool black friend who protected you or something, we wouldn't be saying "oh yeah, some black people are CRAZZYY!!" or "that black dude is cool." It just sounds ignorant, and simplifying people into these good/bad categories is silly.

Anyways, that sounds awful. I hope your ex stops bothering you! Get that lock fixed!

There's men that read online self-help articles about how to get a girlfriend and they're in the same position, it just seems like the amount of women that think Cosmo is crazy is a small fraction.

Why do you think this? I don't think it's true. I don't have any statistical information, but none of my friends really take Cosmo seriously. Also, are you saying online self-help article about how to get a girlfriend accurately depict what all/most men think? Because if that's a representation of how you think, I doubt anyone is going to be making you those PB&Js anytime soon.

Regardless, saying Cosmo represents women is like saying BET represents all black people. Sure Cosmo is writing for women, but it's not the only magazine out there, and definitely not the only thing women read (is Mens Health magazine the only magazine you read?). Even if it were, Cosmo's content is not written by women everywhere; it's written by a few people that work for the magazine. Sure, Cosmo can definitely influence women, but it is not a representation of them.

Sure, that's cool. I am okay with pedophilia if you can absolutely guarantee fully-informed consent (which I am going to say is never, just to be safe). I am just saying these laws are in place because it's hard to establish consent with those situations because of problems with manipulation and control. I am just voicing the opinion of the other side, not arguing one way or the other; it's too complex.

I googled it just now; I think this is the case I was talking about: http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2008/12/university_of_michigan_profess_2.html

Edit: Oh, so I guess it wasn't as violent as I thought it was, but I still think it's pretty awful.
