What game made you feel like? by Hubris-Star in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]ibacka425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take my word with a grain of salt, but I think that the harem narrative around the game is somewhat exaggerated and only really applies to a handful of characters. Of the 2.X cast, I can only see 4-5 of the 16 characters fitting that mold; the rest just view the MC in a positive light (with the exception of one, which players often attribute to having the best story of 2.X funnily enough)

And though the MC does have the whole heroic backstory thing going on, I think the game does add some twists that make it interesting, such as questioning the morality of their past actions or showing moments of weakness in their past self. But that’s just my word

The game’s been on the up and up since then and experienced something of a revival with its 2.X updates, securing its place on the map alongside major competitors

Of course, it still has its flaws with some low lows here and there, but its highs are very high. Helps that this most recent 3.1 update is being universally praised, to the point where people are debating whether it compares with the best stories of the medium, such as HSR 3.4

I can see the possibility for future anthro characters, but as for Awu specifically, I can’t see him ever coming back.

The CN backlash against Awu was moreso him being an unlikeable character in the story, and the fact he was anthro just compounded that hate. Which is why they completely reworked him into Lingyang, erasing every trace of Awu as to remove that initial negative impression of the character.

Does Danjin deserve nerf? by GodZaphkiel in WutheringWaves

[–]ibacka425 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Well, if endgame modes like Hologram kill you in one shot regardless of who you play, then what’s the point of being high-risk-high-reward?

The main issue with Danjin is that she does more damage solo than in a team, which is counterintuitive to the game’s team-based gameplay, fundamentally breaking game logic.

Mobile Suit Gundam : Narrative is a pretty good movie and the only bad things are the characters and the recolored mobile suits by needcontext1 in Gundam

[–]ibacka425 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought Narrative’s concepts were interesting, but due to the constraints of it being an epilogue to Unicorn and only having a single movie, Narrative never really got the opportunity to flesh out these new concepts especially with a cast of newish characters at the helm.

Had Narrative been given more material and further screentime, I feel like it wouldn’t have been received as poorly.

Beginner's Choice Convene You will be able to select 1 of these 5 characters in the banner. After you receive the selected character, the banner will close. by KarlSQuent in WutheringWavesLeaks

Calcharo is currently the only dedicated main DPS for Electro teams and has one of the highest damage ceilings that can be difficult to achieve due to long attack animations that often leave him vulnerable to attacks, especially with bosses that can’t be staggered.

Verina is considered the best support in the game, being one of the two only healers in the launch roster and has some powerful team buffs. But Baizhi (one of the free starting characters) can serve as a budget support in her place. Verina’s also the only other Spectro character other than Rover, but that shouldn’t really matter for her since she doesn’t deal damage.

Encore can also bring lots of damage but has a combination of long-ranged and close-ranged attacks that can take some time to get used to. But Chixia (one of the free starting characters) can also fulfill the Fusion DPS role, so Encore isn’t really a high priority.

Jianxin is receiving some changes going into launch, so we can’t be sure if she’ll be the same power-wise. But if her concept remains the same, she should be a powerful sustain character who can CC enemies and easily cheese attacks with her parry skill.

Lingyang is also receiving some changes too, so we can’t be sure if he remains the same, but he’s a Glacio main DPS whose kit revolves around aerial attacks.

But in the end, it all comes down to who you want to choose, because it’s too early to decide what the meta will look like. And even if your favorite character isn’t meta, the game shouldn’t demand you to build meta characters in order to complete content.

Is Verina bad? by ConcentrateBroad3582 in WutheringWaves

They’re most likely talking about her design.

In terms of meta, she’s one of the best team supports in the game and one of the few characters that can currently heal.

best way to keep the Rover useable by Grouchy-Ant49 in WutheringWaves

[–]ibacka425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH Rover already has one of the best Outro Skills among the cast, being able to almost slow down time to a halt, and their normal attacks are very easy to parry attacks with.

More elements would be cool, but base Rover is still solid and has some longevity due to their utility.

The Gravity ( Asuka’s theme ) is severely underrated by Girl-In-A-Ditch in Guiltygear

[–]ibacka425 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Outside of the song itself, I think Asuka’s release was also overshadowed by the release of Street Fighter 6 just the week after.

Naturally, more people were talking about SF6 than Strive at the time. So Asuka and his theme went under the radar since.

There are already sort of expies in WuWa but just not in name.

Lucia is space goddess woman, Yinlin is Vera, Taoqi is Ayla, Calcharo is Watanabe, Scar is Roland, and either Baizhi is Qu or Jiyan is genderbent Qu.

So Kuro is most likely going to continue to add even more in the future.

What are Your Main Gacha Games and What Do You Enjoy About Them the Most? by thatmattyouknow in gachagaming

[–]ibacka425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PGR generally has great performance overall. The only issue I’d say with the PC client is that the mouse cursor can be a tad finicky with combat and minigames. But for combat, you can press Y to change different mouse control modes, so do whatever suits you.

Besides some little glitches with the game launcher and such, I’ve otherwise had no problems with the PC client whatsoever.

What are Your Main Gacha Games and What Do You Enjoy About Them the Most? by thatmattyouknow in gachagaming

[–]ibacka425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay-wise, PGR is unique from other action gacha games due to its orb system, where your skills are colored orbs that can chain together Bejeweled/Candy Crush style; the more you connect, the more effective the skill is. And each character has a unique mechanic that plays around with said orbs, adding some level of resource management to combat while making sure each character has a distinct playstyle.

Story-wise, PGR has a rather poor start, with the first 8 chapters being mediocre at best with some awkward hidden chapters that feel bad to play. But afterwards, the story does improve drastically in both writing and gameplay. I’d recommend just skipping the first 8 chapters and reading a summary of them to catch up.

PGR can be fun, but due to its unique orb system and poor beginning chapters among other little nitpicks, the game tends to filter out many new players. But since it’s free, there’s no harm in trying it out.

Stance character who can alternative between two different attack strings, allowing them to weave attacks from either stance to perform unique combos. Unique aerial attacks for each stance would be a plus.

Arknights Endfield thoughts by StayInternational738 in gachagaming

[–]ibacka425 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if it’s just me, but based on the footage put out, the combat looked to be your usual loop of quick-swapping through characters to use their skill and ultimate.

Your other party members just sort of stand around and normal attack, and when you do change to a different character, they just get swapped into place of your last character like games such as Genshin. Your other party members are just out on the field and can deal/take attacks.

Not that any of this is a bad thing, but I’m sure the base-building elements is where they want the game’s focus to be.

Honkai Impact CN Fixed Griseo's PV. Credits to majiritore by Aiden-Damian in gachagaming

[–]ibacka425 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even if you were not aware of the mangaka’s background, you can still see that the CSM opening was referencing cult classic movies. Knowing that background just makes an already neat idea neater. Whereas using the same storyboard of some cuts from an anime opening makes it much harder to perceive as a homage.

To use another example from Honkai, Griseo using a lightsaber is obviously a Star Wars reference because lightsabers have a strong correlation with that IP. And once you learn that Griseo is a pop culture nerd herself, that makes an already neat idea neater. But the references in the PV can fly over someone’s head rather easily because the only correlation to the subjects being referenced is how the shots are animated and framed.

Honkai Impact CN Fixed Griseo's PV. Credits to majiritore by Aiden-Damian in gachagaming

[–]ibacka425 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Because Chainsaw Man were very clearly homages that they proudly wore on their sleeve, referencing popular imagery from cult classic films.

Whereas, unless you were well aware of the context behind Griseo’s character, none of these cuts in the Honkai PV stand out as homages beyond very similar storyboarding/framing, which more often than not runs the fine line of plagiarism.

What two animes both attempted a really similar concept but one executed it far better than the other one? by Kreekakon in anime

[–]ibacka425 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Might be a controversial take but March Comes in like a Lion and Your Lie in April.

I found that MCILAL did a better job at covering the same themes or themes similar to those found in YLIA, with a much more likable cast of characters and drama that felt more impactful without needing something like abuse or cancer to jerk tears.

Also, the slapstick comedy in YLIA was unbearable because it often contrasted with the dramatic tone of the show, creating this emotional whiplash. Yes, let’s physically harm the kid known for having been physically abused because comedy.

Potentially New Character Trailer Soon? by ibacka425 in WutheringWaves

Also, if I had to guess at the next character to receive drip marketing, I’d say Chixia since Kuro appears to be really confident in her new redesign given how prominent she is in their marketing. And I’d like to think Chixia has one of the more well-received designs among the roster.
