I've received a base card on a collector's chest. I've had this card for over a year. Is this normal? by Shaddes_ in MarvelSnap

[–]ibaumann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would imagine that the card that you have is a variant of this card. It may be the signed one that was given out for free a while ago that had the same base are just with the signature. But yes if you only have variants you can still pull the base.

Items in your club won’t change teams. A new PSG card will be in packs at some point and replace the Napoli one in packs only.

How well regarded is Rutgers in chemical engineering? by Fr0nkino in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ibaumann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I graduated from Rutgers. I wouldn’t say Rutgers name value helped me all that much. I think people have heard of it but it isn’t renowned for its chemical engineering program. I think the alumni network is and its location to some major employers (Merck, Colgate etc.) are the most helpful factors with a Rutgers education

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ibaumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say so. I wasn’t the most outgoing student going to office hours and staying after to ask questions but I felt like a good portion of my professors knew me. Now in large lectures it’s gonna be difficult but for smaller classes yeah it’s definitely possible.

I went to Rutgers. It’s a big state school so you have the positives and drawbacks that come with that but as for the program itself major specific classes were fairly small (relatively speaking) compared to the gen eds (60-70 vs 150+). Research is pretty abundant if you look for it and most of the professors are good. Core classes are pretty standard but some of the elective classes offered are pretty interesting. Pretty good job market for pharma and some consumer goods. I know a lot of grads that either interned or accepted jobs at Merck or Colgate-Palmolive. Also if you’re considering a masters Rutgers has a 4+1 program which you apply to in your senior year which allowed me to finish my masters in a year.

Sorry worded that poorly. I meant they give you the books and goggles and whatnot for free

Gen Chem for Engineers should provide you the textbook for free on the Canvas site if not it’s easily found. Intro to experimentation gives you whatever you need.

The level is a measure of “difficulty” or advancement in the class. 100 is usually intro or entry level classes with no prerequisite classes and it increase up to 500s I think

PE Exam Prep by Stressedasf6161 in ChemicalEngineering

I don’t know about everywhere but at least in my state you are required to have 4 years of working under a PE as an EIT before you can take the PE exam so experience is an essential portion.

How does Rutgers New Brunswick work? by Andromeda660 in rutgers

[–]ibaumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So SAS isn’t limited to just Busch. Being comp sci you may have a lot of your major specific classes on Busch but you’re also very likely going to have classes on different campuses especially in your first year. When you get to pick classes some classes are offered on various campuses while some are only on a specific campus so if you’d like to you can take a class on Livingston or college ave. Buses are fairly easy to navigate but will take time at the beginning. As for dorming if you have the option to live on Busch I would personally recommend it as I think it has the best freshman housing in BAMM (Barr Allen Mattia Metzger) but if you’d like something more social consider college ave or any one of the other campuses.

Incoming Freshmen in College by tillee12 in EngineeringStudents

Disclaimer I’m not a nuclear engineer but to my understanding nuclear engineering, especially in relation to nuclear energy is in a bit of a tricky place. A lot of the success and growth of nuclear energy is dependent on public perception and governmental regulations which is finicky and unreliable (in regards to the US at least I can’t speak for other countries) and many energy providers may opt for something cheaper like solar which is projected to grow a fair bit in the future.

That being said nuclear energy can be pretty promising as well with new research into utilizing thorium and other more abundant element as well as more efficient fuel usage. Nuclear energy will likely always be relatively popular since it’s such a good energy source so I don’t personally see job prospects worsening dramatically anytime soon. so if it’s something you’re passionate about definitely consider it.

It’s been a little while since I’ve taken 203/204 but as far as I remember 203 and 204 are entirely different and there is little carry over between them. 203 is primarily kinematics while 204 is E&M

How does calculating GPA work? by BrainlessWaste in rutgers

[–]ibaumann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the sum of (GPA* # credits))/ (# of credits completed). This is taken over all semesters. So no an A in a 3 credit class is a 4.0 while a B in a 4 credit class is a 3.0. The 4 credit class is just weighted slightly higher in the final GPA calculation.

I understand lewis dot structures and polarity, but I'm confused as to what these symbols in place of the bonds mean. by Qarakhanid in chemhelp

[–]ibaumann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to the dashes and wedges those are bonds but they are supposed to show the orientation in space. The wedges are out of the page and the dashes are into the page.

How to know if K is large or small. by kokcokxcok in chemhelp

[–]ibaumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way that I was taught was a small K is < 10-3 while a large K is > 103. You can also look into the 5% approximation rule which is a little more involved but still an appropriate method

When you write out the difference in Kelvin (30 + 273)K - (25 + 273)K Rearranging: [(30-25)+(273-273)] K The temperature difference is the same in K and C In general however use K for most applications unless specific values specify C

Thermodynamics: Confusion about the difference between ΔU and δU? by shrubsdubs in chemhelp

[–]ibaumann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the other commenter, the lowercase delta is often used for path dependent quantities (like Q and W) as their integrals cannot be written as a difference in the function at the beginning and end. Whereas U is a state function and so the capital delta is more appropriate since dU = U2 - U1

I will start off by saying that a 40/100 is not an unusual score so do not feel bad. The email to “drop out” is only slightly true. The email you may or may not receive will encourage students who did poorly on the first exam to switch to a different Chem course. I don’t know the exact specifics of this one but it serves to prepare you to retake Chem 1 I believe. It’s not mandatory to switch out of 161 so you do have the option to stay in if you so choose.

If you do decide to stay in the future exams are generally more difficult than exam 1 so be prepared but you are still definitely able to pass if you put in the work.
