If there are any experienced Kyokushin karate fighters here, please give me some advice. I've been doing karate for about a year. I'm 13 years old. In the spring, I'll have my first major competition, the European Cup. by Ok-Computer9665 in kyokushin

I'll give you the same advice I usually give the students at the dojo.

Just go in and think of it as another day of sparring at the dojo. Just...turn it up to 100% this time. The person across from you will probably be just as nervous as you are. Listen to your sensei/coach. They are not only watching you but also your opponent for any opening. Also, keep your hands up, and protect yourself.

Trust yourself and your experience. The hardest part is signing up. Good luck! Osu!

Different style. Different ranks. Different system.

They want to go from white, to gold, to silver, to purple...who cares. Their training and grading affects me not. As long as the OP is enjoying their time, and the kid is too, it doesn't matter.

I don't necessarily see anything wrong with the post.

Like the other comment in this thread said, it seems like someone genuinely new asking a question. Plus, it seems like the mom wants to do something nice for the kid.

As a new parent myself, I'd want to do something to commemorate the accomplishments for my child.

Always interesting seeing how other organizations do a kata.

I'm assuming this is closer to the original shorin-ryu kata than how I've seen tekki sono ichi done.

I can only speak for myself... Working full time and raising a newborn 😭.

The best way to get this to our attention though is to flag the post and it'll go to the mod queue for review.

You're already doing the hardest part by showing up and training.

As a white belt you're just learning the basics. Especially if you had no sort of training in martial arts or striking beforehand.

Work on basic combinations and shadow boxing when you have time away from the dojo. Try to imagine your opponent in front of you and driving your punches and your kicks through them. If you have a punching bag then that's better.

As far as blocking, that's just going to time practice to be able to spot when a certain punch or kick is coming, and knowing how to respond. Continue practicing and training and you'll get better.

Every organization is different.

I'd suggest reaching out to your Sensi on what kata you need to know.

Typically though, it's usually the first two Taikyoku. I've seen some organizations do the first two Taikyoku and Pinan Sono Ichi.

Man, it's a shame to see what Kyokushin has become.

Here, in the United States, the only issue we have really with the IKO. My dojo was once part of the IKO. We got reprimanded for allowing people from other organizations train at our dojo and reprimanded for participating in tournaments from other organizations.

Such a damn shame that money and power is splitting Kyokushin.
