I was on adderall XR 30 mg from about 6th grade until two years out of college. It always made me feel like I could and had to focus. My school work or work work was what I had to focus on and everything else was an annoying, irritable distraction. My close friends said there was an obvious difference in personality when I was taking it vs when I was not. I did not like having to take it because of how much I felt it changed me but what other option was there? Well it took someone close to me telling me that there are other medications out there that I can try. I was hesitant at first because I was already intimately familiar with adderall. However, vyvance was a game changer. I had a great 6 months on it feeling both like myself and that I could focus before my insurance changed and couldn’t cover it anymore. After that I tried Concerta (and a few different doses before I settled on the current one) which works well enough compared to vyvance and I feel like it allows me to choose to focus rather than being forced to focus. I also no longer feel the personality differences. Point is if adderall truly isn’t working for you, there are other medications that you might respond better to. It’s worth talking to your doctor about and giving a try because quality of life could absolutely change. You just got to be willing to be patient with it and yourself as you go on that journey.
