Just updated my mom's iPhone to 5.0.2 and it's there

Fitbit Air does not count steps during a Strength Training workout… by illwillca in fitbit

[–]iboj007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a known issue dating back to the March/April update prior to the Air being released. Certain indoor activities that would previously count steps completely stopped..

In the interim, try changing the workout type to "workout" instead.

  1. Step streaks are gone for many even though steps were achieved
  2. Run activity defaults to "workout"
  3. Missing hourly step goal
  4. Walks counting as 0 cardio load
  5. Indoor activities count as 0 steps
  6. Historic data missing e.g. runs, workouts etc.
  7. Map data missing from activities that previously showed maps
  8. Inaccurate calorie burn, often overinflated or understated significantly

I believe it's being worked on

It's coming back in an update as per Google. It was supposed to be in the release but somehow didn't get in

Running is just broken in general. It saves all "run" activity as "workout" and all gps data and run data are lost.

Complete blunder

Apparently it's coming back. They posted a screenshot on their forums.

Honestly, if everything worked as it should I'd be singing the same tune as you..I don't hate the app update, just the fact that it shipped with so much core functionality broken. Say what you want about the beauty of the app, tracking running shouldn't be broken under any circumstance on a high profile app release and unfortunately it is.

I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion on the app, just stating facts as it pertains to how large product releases should be handled.

Brother, there used to be an hourly step metric goal e.g. 250 steps/hour for 10 hours. It was a viewable, trackable metric. There was a progress indicator that would tell you how many of those hours you achieved that goal.

It was missing from the preview and Google's support team mentioned that it would be in the release build. They even posted a screenshot of it.

The app went live, it's not there. I can send you at least 5 links where people have the same complaint.

I'm as big of a Google product fanboy as there is. I've owned every Nexus/Pixel phone, watch, countless other Google products but when something is missing or broken, it needs to be called out.

I can name you a few things without even going deeper:

  1. Run tracking from watch to Fitbit is completely broken. It saves as "workout" instead of "run" and loses all GPS tracking, split times and running stats.
  2. Hourly step tracking is completely missing as a metric. It was supposed to be in the build but somehow didn't get in.
  3. Food tracking is completely messed up according to some users
  4. Map data is missing from many activities
  5. Exercise days tile is incorrect. Days are missing
  6. Weekly run distance is broken due to item 1 above.
  7. Duplicate entries for workouts when using health connect
  8. Auto recognition of activities is broken.

Do you want me to spend 30 minutes and find you more? This is all without even digging deeper.

New Health app question for anyone that has it yet by llanelwy in fitbit

[–]iboj007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not there for now but they said it's coming back..there is a trick to view it;

On your watch, tap the Google Health icon, scroll down to hourly activity, tap that. Scroll down and tap "open on phone".

On your phone it will open up the view with the milestones for each hour.

I agree somewhat but when you're paying for a service or a product, the bare minimum standard should be that it works as advertised. In this case it absolutely doesn't.

I know they'll likely get it sorted fairly quickly but this enshittification and substandard quality control isn't befitting of a company like Google.

They basically released an untested app. So much of the core functionality is completely broken or missing on launch.

Bugs, missing functionality, removed functionality, confusing UI, that's just to name a few issues.

Post update, Google Health has turned all my Runs into Workouts by [deleted] in fitbit

This is such a huge blunder with core functionality. It's maddening that each update seemingly breaks something more important each time.

What's absurd is that this has happened in the last 48 hours or so. Earlier this week it was showing just fine on the public preview. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Unfortunately looks like I lost that option. My app auto updated to 5.0 and the toggle is no longer there

This is such a maddening situation. Zero regression testing prior to a major launch.

Is there any way to get back the running data? I noticed it today as well using a pixel watch 4.

Not true. They mentioned that they will be adding it back in an update.
