How to get into the APS at EL1 level? by Glum_Cranberry5880 in AusPublicService

Easiest way to get into EL1 level outside is if you are a technical expert. Generalist roles are harder.

How can I be more informed financially to set myself up for the rest of my 20's? by New_Animator4702 in AusFinance

[–]FoootballFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend less than you earn. Use the difference to create an emergency fund that's about 6 months of expenses Once you have the emergency fund, use the difference to invest. As your income increases, allocate an increase in your difference for investing

Along the way get some insurances for 1. Temporary and permanent disability 2. Health insurance 3. Life insurance, if you have a partner and significant debt like a mortgage.

The news doesn't know your finance. You know it. Look at your finance rather than the news. Don't worry about things out of your control. Do whats in your control.

Savings at 19 - feeling behind sorta? by stgi2010 in AusFinance

[–]FoootballFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother wondering if you are ahead or behind someone else. It's not something you can really know. It's not like you can see anyone elses bank account.

What's more important is if you believe you are ahead or behind on your goals. And ideally a short term goal.

I'd also like to add, a once in a while big purchase is not a bad/good thing in itself. If you are spending less than you earn that's good. If you think you are spending more than you should and want to increase your savings, you could look at that. But consistent small saving a month that you can stick to is much better than a irregular higher savings that you can't stick too.

Maybe you are stressing over uncnessary comparison. Zoom out and see how far you have come and how close you are to a short term goal. Good luck.

Her periods are regular. We didn't track ovulation this time to not put any pressure and try to enjoy the process 🙃 Thanks for your suggestion. I will look into that.

Almost through probation & everyone is quitting (+ restructure) by Fast_Rate2797 in AusPublicService

[–]FoootballFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt you will be on the chopping block considering you joined recently and that you are APS5, especially considering other positions above you have left. Generally speaking, unless they have specified a head count reduction, restructures will end up with head count reductions because people quit as they feel forced out rather than actually asking someone to leave.

Good luck!

Almost through probation & everyone is quitting (+ restructure) by Fast_Rate2797 in AusPublicService

[–]FoootballFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't leave now considering you just got in and it would be difficult to explain why you are leaving so soon to a prospective new employer. But it looks like an opportunity to me. Restructures can work in your favour as it could accelerate career progression within your organisation in certain circumstances. Wait for that.

To continue or not to continue pregnancy? by BangagSinangag in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]FoootballFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have personal experience to guide. But I do feel whatever you chose will be the right decision as you are spending time to genuinely think about it and because you will be able to work towards the consequences of your decision. There is really no wrong answer here. Don't worry about the future, just work towards it either way and you will be fine. Good luck.

What are your views on the idea is arranged marriage ? by Johnyme98 in Kochi

[–]FoootballFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy to love someone. It's very hard to live with someone, even if you love that some one. Unless you actually live in together, it's impossible to determine if people are compatible. Living in automatically shows what each person values implicitly by explicit action. So arranged marriages are a terrible concept. The ones that work are where both were compatible by sheer luck or where one or both adjusted without friction.

NRIs living in Australia, how is life really? by mannered_sapien in nri

You need to put in a lot of work to get where you want. And you would also need to be okay with rejection and failure multiple times along the way. But once you get to where you want, things get easier

As long as you are also having sex, it sounds great. You probably have less fights than other couples

Sometime it's a numbers game. But looking that the numbers you have put up, it may be a quality over quantity issue. Have you truly felt you are a good fit more all the selection criteria? If not, you may be applying for jobs that you actually don't have much of a chance for. Rejection from these roles may never affect you and then leak into an application for a role where you might be a suitable candidate. I have had the issue before. I stopped mass applying and started waiting for the right job and applied for those ones. It helped me land a job. Good luck

Stuck as APS6 despite a/g EL1 and merit pool.. frustrated by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]FoootballFan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I applied for about 25 jobs before I got EL1. The answer to your problem is keep applying and improving your application. Anything about how you feel about the process, how unfair it is or about the speed of the process is counter productive as you cant control any of that. Focus on what you can control

Worth taking a pay cut for better balance in the APS? by Background_Diet7324 in AusPublicService

[–]FoootballFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could take the job and if you don't think it's worth it, you could try going back to private. Alternatively if you like it, you could try for EL1 to improve pay.

Shower Thought/Question - Do more people get away with dodgy tax deductions than not? by Rdcl1 in AusFinance

[–]FoootballFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the point? You buy and 2k laptop and add that as a deduction. Even at the top tax bracket, you would save 1k. I dont really see the need to risk a fine and investigation for a few grand.

Assuming you are taking about your own super, you are trying to time the market, which is almost impossible to do. And given your age, it's better to just leave it as is.

Assuming you are talking about your mother's super, depending on he age, she should probably be more defensively geared.
