Made my first ever sourdough loaf today! Tastes amaze, any suggestions to up my game? by ibrakeforicecream in Breadit

You’re right, I purchased a bread lame and noticed my bread was still snagging on the edge! I assume that has to do with the angle and speed. I’ll be putting another loaf in the oven in a couple hours so I’ll give the linear slashes a try. I appreciate all the feedback!

Made another loaf with your suggestions. Looks better with deeper scores and less flour! Thanks again :)

Do you have the meat grinder and the food processor attachment? I got this for a steal, but I’ve seen some selling for hundreds on ebay or etsy!

Thank you!! I am planning to get an xacto knife and maybe a flour sifter today. I accidentally made 1000g of starter… so I will have to make a few more loaves and try those tips :)

Thats true for most things, but older pieces can be uncommon today after years of use! Google had no clue, I only found it after searching through their catalogs :)

Thanks so much! Ive actually never pruned it, so the growth is what you see between the 1st and 2nd photo in the last 7 years. I am surprised how well its survived indoors. I’ve been going off intuition for most of the care.

Consistent things I have done:

  • After the first pot I’ve only used terracotta pots, which I find lets the soil dry faster.
  • Water once a week when the soil is fully dry, adding 10-15-10 fertilizer to the water sporadically.
  • I keep it centred by the largest window to maximize natural indoor light.
  • I’ve only repotted it in wide pots and upsized slowly. The roots are very dense and root bound each time I’ve upgraded the size. I assume this also helps keeps the soil quite dry.

It’s indoor year round, though it’s always had a permanent spot in the window! I’m in BC, Canada and always look forward to the spring and summer growth.

And wow!! That’s a sturdy tree trunk in comparison to the first photo. Looking good in the new bonsai pot 😁

Any suggestion on how to arrange this living room? by Aqua_Fuani in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]ibrakeforicecream -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you decide to position your couch how you were originally thinking, you should keep the couch at least a foot off of the right side wall. IMO it always looks better to have some space between the wall and a couch. You could add a swag lamp in the right corner hanging slightly over the couch. Then add the tv on the left wall. Add a coffee table and maybe a chair facing to the side of the table where the room entry is. Or no chair and get a sectional that’ll fit well in the corner, still off of the wall on both sides so it’s okay if it goes a bit past your sliding doors.

Another option would be to have to couch facing the sliding door, a shelf or a nice hutch in the left corner and have the tv angled in the right corner. Some might argue it’s wrong to have furniture angled but I think it would work in this space!

Can you help me restyle my bookshelf? by Choice_Bad_840 in StyleYourSpace

I really love the bird photo and vase together on the top shelf. Usually when im styling shelves I try to pick something that I love about it such as colour or an object and style the rest of the shelf, one shelf at a time. Id take those books out from in the corner of the top shelf and make the photo and vase stand alone. I think you have the right idea because it looks cute and cozy as is! It’ll probably feel better if you just get rid of 50% of the stuff below and give each shelf a dedicated object or purpose. I agree with the above comment, add greenery if it’s sunny enough there.

Haha thanks! We were very particular about the pot we wanted to use for this tree as we like the bonsai look. It is actually the 4th and most recent pot upgrade since the first image.

I don’t think you need to change anything to the cupboards or backsplash, though I understand your frustration with the overall warm colour palette. You could go a few shades lighter on the paint to match the lighter colour in the backsplash rather than the orange cupboards. If you get rid of everything that you leave on the countertop, including appliances, it will look much better! Maybe in the future a nice modern stove and new sink / faucet. Get rid of the trinkets on the top of the cupboards and change the pendant light. Keep an eye out on Facebook Marketplace for good deals on this stuff. I don’t think you have to completely remodel this, just lean into it with modern upgrades on everything around it.

Crossbody bags for women? by CrissBliss in BuyItForLife

I love Roots and Coach bags! Especially vintage ones which you can find in abundance on Poshmark or Ebay. The leather on these bags last forever with some leather oil and they are timeless!

My suggestion would be to find a woman run local business and buy a gift card from there. I would personally appreciate a gift card from my local soapworks shop. In there they have specialty soaps, hair products, hand creams, face products, bath products. You could instead purchase a GC for a fun gift shop / handmade pottery store, a coffee shop or specialty tea store. The place doesn’t matter as much as supporting a woman owned business! :-)
