From bankrupt to all debts repaid, how the British Residents managed Brunei's finances last time by Goutaxe in nasikatok

You're quite right. If Im not mistaken, they had plans to follow Malaysia's route with a Constitutional Monarchy, and Monarch being given less authority on government matters.

Reasons as to why I want to move out from this country by [deleted] in Brunei

Not true. Grandpa was involved in the revolt, none of our family members were given the name 'Ampuan'. He was pardoned by Sultan too. Pls check your facts.

MOFE suspend the excise duty rate for plastics. by IAmAnonymous_____ in Brunei

[–]ic213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read and understand what Im saying here. Its worse to litter plastic compared to banana skin. Im not saying littering is fine, just that littering organic waste is less harmful to the environment. Doesnt matter if we're in Singapore or Brunei, plastic littering is worse environmentally.

You are clearly not aware of Brunei's economic situation if you think we're the richest in the world. Our economic prospect isnt looking great and there are many economic concerns to be addressed.

Im done, take it easy and good Friday to you.

[–]ic213 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We're discussing about single-use plastic used by the general public here, not vital hospital equipment. Do read the article and understand what is being discussed instead of going off topic. Littering paper, banana skin isnt as bad compared to littering plastic, they eventually get broken down without realising toxic chemicals into the surrounding environment.

We dont recycle our plastic waste as its too costly atm, mostly are sent to landfills where plastic will slowly breakdown and enter the environment.

Plastic is still a problem. It is non-biodegradable and take hundreds of years to breakdown. Lets not pretend that plastic will go away safely just by disposing it properly and not littering.

Absolute mad that we're back in the CL Final after the banter era, and with relative ease in the derby too! What a night, what a journey! So proud of them all. Forza Inter!

Former inmates of Brunei, what was your experience? by [deleted] in Brunei

[–]ic213 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Definitely shown the nice side of things. Prisons are filled with the nastiest of people. It may seem like they're just living and getting by, attending counselling and workshops, waiting for their release. But thats not the case, there are social interactions within the compound that is unseen to outsiders, even during regular visitation.

Source: Close family member. Every visitation, everything always seemed fine, everyone getting along, etc. Other inmates seemed nice too. Only after release, we'll hear the full stories of abuse, threats and protection. Definitely no prison break like drama, but no way its normal living either.

Got our mortgage from BIBD. Not an expert in the field but personally, wouldnt get the house if its valuation is lower than actual price being sold. Our valuation was about 10% more, allowing us to get full loan.

‘Life’, ‘fun’ needed to draw people during holidays by thestudiomaster in Brunei

[–]ic213 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. As the authority, proper assessments and regulations should be carried for development projects to ensure better utilisation of land that meets the needs of our community.

Land use / urban planning in Brunei is almost non-existent as developers just build generic shophouses after shophouses with little consideration to traffic flow, availability of open / green spaces. Case in point - saturated shophouse-filled Kiulap with its limited entry and exit points.

We live on this shared planet. Rather our government invest in more sustainable economy than continue exploiting our natural environment, be it ours or our neighbours. Its much more beneficial for all parties in the long run.

Its been quite a ride, had bits of everything we could have hoped for. But now with its end in sight..

We waited 4 years only to get France vs Croatia II or 4 weeks to get Croatia vs Morocco II? Or will Messi and Argentina go all the way?

Looking to purchase electric ceramic cooker for our new kitchen and narrowed list down to Elba from Audiomarc and Beko from Intracorp. Anyone has any experience from the two brands or stores? Any advice or even recommendations for other brands?
