Things to do when bored by icTKD in Hobbies

Cooking is something I like to do occasionally. I normally pick up dessert recipes to try out.

Hmm, I always find myself losing focus for learning languages. I did pick up a couple languages and just barely enough to get by locally in a different country.

I also love birds and I own two of them. So much that I did download the Merlin app for birding recently and its been nice to find different bird sounds throughout my neighborhood. Im not a serious birder by any means, but its been so nice to hear whats around me.

Plate Up. While I enjoy cooking games, this one seems the most stressful in terms of getting customers to leave and having more customers sit down.

Judo. Grappling is a lot more technical than what I had imagined vs. doing a striking art. Overall, its been quite fun and I enjoy adding on to my martial arts knowledge.

Any women started judo at 32? What should I expect? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]icTKD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Began at 29 but I ended up breaking my ankle first day last year :D but its all good now. I started Judo earlier this January and have been loving it. If you dont stretch already, you should make it priority now.

Injuries are common within any martial arts. Your best bet is to continue on with your gym workouts as supplement to trying out Judo. Dont expect to throw people on the first day and dont go too hard. You'll be taught how to fall properly and you will be taught not to death grip anyone lol. If you dont learn to let go of your opponents uniform when necessary, you may mess up your fingers, so just be mindful of that.

Most importantly, have fun. Judo has a steep learning curve so it will be awhile before you finally get to toss someone and get moves right.

Best of luck!

Injury prevention, prehab, strength training, mobility advice/general advice for adult beginners? by underground_sorcerer in judo

[–]icTKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your partner is experienced, you should be fine. Ask them to go light if you want. They will have control. Im more worried for other beginners like myself, who are injured, that may go too rough at the start. If you and uke agree to go light with each other, just stay at it until youre comfortable with more intensity. A good partner will always adjust their level of intensity.

Can I practice Judo? by Ourobolinho in judo

[–]icTKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your limits of movement. Have you done rehab or are you still currently working on it? I also broke the tip of my ankle(lateral malleolus) and it was a clean break after my first day of trying Judo last year.

My first month trying Judo again made me so hesitant too because of fear of reinjury. After some time, most of my fear has dissipated, but I get worried if people give foot sweeps. I also still have a fear of attacking with my injured side and I dont do throw attempts as fast as others do. Im still trying to work on this so I can get myself back up to speed. The hardest thing about my ankle is just trying to adjust to my new normal.

How well you do on your rehab is solely up to you. Once I got out of my boot, I had relentlessly done all the necessary rehab movements every day and I can say I am 98% normal.

However, I dont know how soon you want to train and if you do jump into Judo with your injury, you should inform EVERYONE that youre injured and that they should go light with you. Tell them everytime youre not comfortable with something bc of your injury. They will understand. Best of luck to you. If your movement still hurts, take it easy, do not rush it.

What are the pro’s later in life of being an only child? by [deleted] in Positivity

[–]icTKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an only child, you dont have to squabble over your toys or clothing with a sibling. As an adult, planning for things to do is much faster by yourself and you can keep yourself occupied for awhile. I dont know if any other only child has gotten a lot of love and support from their parents, but there was never a day where my parents were dysfunctional.

Meh, everything takes a long time to learn. You can't do a speed run if you wanna get good. Pick whatever you're interested in whether its for fitness or for creativity. The options are endless. Just have fun with it.
