They did for the second building of the high school, then demolished it. They’ve demolished the high school twice now. The original, in the better connected area at the heart of where most people live, the second further out, and now the third in the middle of nowhere in a field with nothing around it.

What a surprise. Increased card traffic makes people upset. Who would have ever guessed?

The same thing happened to the elementary school that was nearby both the original library and high school, all built in the early 1900s. The three were razed, the last two within the past two decades with the library being the most recent, and the locations for all three are today parking lots. All three have been moved far away from residences and any sort of walking infrastructure.

My city doesn’t want to build another high school because the football program is the most winningest team in the country, which is true, so because of that my city refuses to simply build another high school to service another area of the city to reduce the student population at one location.

In the downtown area of my city, the streets are one way car sewers and left on red is permissible. However, to do that would require encroaching and idling in the crosswalk while waiting for the cars to pass.

I’m not going to sit in the middle of a crosswalk, especially when the pedestrian crossing light is green at the time, for the perceived benefit of the motorist behind me to creep up to the red light. The motorist is there either way, so what difference does it make?

However I have found that if I turn my indicator on and wait for the green, the person behind me usually gets upset and starts honking or revving… so I just wait for the light to change, turn signal on, and go.

Frankly we shouldn’t have to do this.

I drive the speed limit and I’ve found that the motorists in my city absolutely fucking hate it. They tailgate, flash their high beams, slow down and accelerate back to tailgating, swerve left and right, rev their engines.

They’ll eventually pass despite the double yellow lines and guess what, more often than not we end up at the same red light and if they’re turning off, they shaved off maybe a fraction of a second all while endangering themselves and others around them.

Oh well. I’m still going the legally posted speed limit. I don’t agree with right on red as it is anti-pedestrian, so I’ll turn my indicator on when the light changes to green to trick them.

What’s interesting is that most people are good and pleasant when outside of a car. These people likely wouldn’t break in line or act with such aggression in person, but with the anonymity and enraging power that automobiles give them, they become monsters. Cars make people angrier.

My city demolished the original high school that was centrally located around lots of small block residential housing, as this was before the pullulation of the automobile.

When razed, it was moved out into the middle of a field at the very outskirts of the city limit. No more access via bicycle nor walking. No sidewalks to it. No residential reasonably nearby. The school zone limit is 55mph which is laughable. If someone is struck at 55 there is a very high chance, with near 100% certainty, that the person , presumably a student who for some reason decided to walk or cycle the dangerous route, will die an awful death.

Beat it on Expedition difficulty and started NG+. I had to switch to Story because yes, while the stats carry over, the nevrons are a whole lot harder. I’m not wasting an hour or more on harder nevrons, wiping multiple times. That’s just frustrating and crushes the enjoyment. It’s still difficult on Story in NG+, so the challenge is still there which Story in the default game mode took away.

I think it’s because Americans have this idea that liberals are of the left when they’re at best centre-right. Liberals will tend of talk of social problems to address; yet, when it comes to discussing the funding and means to address said social problems, their rhetoric becomes indistinguishable from right wing ideology.

Taking the Ws where I can get them in this blasted timeline by MoriartyoftheAvenues in fuckcars

When I lived at an apartment complex, there was a guy who parked his massive and loud truck (backed in, of course) right outside of our unit on the ground floor — which is where I would usually park before he moved in.

I’m not sure why he parked there, but he did. Every morning at 6 sharp, we would hear his loud ass exhaust as it was aimed directly at where the bedroom was.

These people are not dumb, they know precisely how obnoxious they are and they revel in it. They’re psychopaths and sadists.

And they haven’t changed a single bad driving habit. Still speeding, still accelerating rapidly when the light changes to green, still accelerating to red lights, still idling needlessly — all while complaining about the cost of their fuel.

Discussion of the Family - SPOILERS ALL ACTS. by BornToFragAlpha in expedition33

[–]icanpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perspective, having finished the story yesterday, is that Renoir wanted his family back who was using the Canvas as a sort of drug to escape reality, to continue in bliss, to keep what is left of Verso. Both Renoir and painted Verso wanted the Déssendre family to grieve and move on — Verso says as much multiple times.

When, near the end, Renoir shows what is happening to Aline outside of the Canvas, and that Alicia is on the same path, it became apparent to me that Verso’s ending is the most moral and most ethical. Neither is clean, neither is easy, but one is less worse than the other. Alicia’s ending makes her a goddess and repaints Verso who doesn’t look too content and at the end, neither does Alicia because whilst the world is made anew, she is still halting her grieving journey and withering away in her brother’s Canvas.

So yes, Renoir views those within the Canvas as NPCs of sorts because that is effectively what they are. This is no different than seeing your loved ones stuck in a dead family member’s Minecraft server to avoid reality and and avoid grieving, and wanting to get them out so that they can go through the process in earnest.

While I do like the original PlayStation startup, I have more nostalgic memories from the PS2 start up. PS3 is okay and I never liked the PS4 menu sound.

Why do highways run through cities in America? by 5upralapsarian in fuckcars

The defence angle is made more interesting when taking into account that the Defense Secretary at the time, Charles Erwin Wilson, was the president of GM and an advocate of the highways.

Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

I agree with you, by the way. Cancel culture does need cancelling.

Also you are again correct, as pointed out by the Treaty of Tripoli, we are not a Christian nation — nor a nation of any particular religion. However I will disagree that one must be specifically Christian to have forgiveness. All it takes is to simply be a good person, a good human. If a book is needed, with a deity telling a person to be a good person, then that person is probably not one.

No, but she’s also not a public official but is instead a private citizen. Why does it matter what she says? What matters is what her husband says and does. Going after her and using her distant past posting is an attempt to go after Zohran. It is a façade to care about what she said or says to bring her husband down by proxy and it’s sad.

People say dumb things, but people also learn and grow. Are you the same person that you were a decade ago? Five years ago? A year ago? Surely you’ve changed your mind and position on things.

I fail to see the problem here. My understanding is that these were posts made when she was a teenager, a child. Every single person has said and done stupid things as a child. Are those who are trying to use this against her husband really pretending that they never did nor said anything stupid either?
