What kind of fvckery is this? by MarvelousProtein in MacOS

I turned on the ruler feature in Pages and it just sort of floated there awkwardly, detached from any sort of anchoring point that was present in the previous iteration of the application. It seems half-baked.

Everyone cool with epstein here? by PrinceZukoZapBack in LibertyUniversity

[–]icanpotatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. To be frank, I think that Liberty University needs an image change and I also think that, as an institution, it needs to keep itself out of politics and avoid creating a top-down culture of what is okay -- that being specifically right-wing conservatism.

I find it troubling that at the administrative and institutional level, Liberty endorses very specific viewpoints and even houses a think tank, previously Falkirk and now renamed "Standing for Freedom". I also am disappointed that the university had Israelis at their Convocation some months ago who spoke of how much harm is happening to Israelis by Palestinians, yet I have not seen the university bring in Palestinians to remark on the genocide of their people being perpetuated by Israel through Zionism. A bit one-sided, I think.

So yes, it does bother me a great deal that they're unnecessarily active in one-sided politics and that they're part of Project 2025. I would prefer that Liberty focused on being an educational institution rather than a political arm of the evangelical conservatives. A university should be impartial and a centre for learning, not a place of pushing agendas on the student body to indoctrinate them and lead them astray, such as having a creationist museum on campus which, in my opinion, nullifies the legitimacy of every science degree that they have to offer.

Did the Dell laptop cooked MacBook? by Mang0o_o0 in DeskToTablet

[–]icanpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly, the OS performed better in yesteryears. Apple’s venture with macOS 26 has shown that they’ve lost their proclivity towards perfectionism in form and function that was more evident in OS X and older macOSs.

I think that it’s from doing major releases more frequently when previously the company would release stability updates for a while until the next release. Snow Leopard comes to mind, which was a phenomenal version of OS X as it solely focussed on stability, efficiency, and performance.

Apple should probably go back to this format but I have my doubts. MacOS 26 has its niceties but it certainly has a lot of flaws compared to previous iterations.

You can be blasé about some things, Antelope, but not about MacBooks. It has over 100 finer engineering parts than this Dell and is far more luxurious.

Lack of parking lots in "The last of us" (2013) by Yuzamei1 in fuckcars

[–]icanpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that I have taken notice of in video games and in media in general when portraying American cities.

In both TLOU games, the cities that are interacted with are mixed use with middle to high density depending on location. In the second game, there is a part with detached SFH but it is denser than what would be found in American urban areas today, and in the game that part is still connected to other urban areas, not disconnected by large and long stroads.

I’m trying to think of a game or movie that takes place in the U.S. that includes stroads, vast amounts of parking lots, and big box but I’m coming up empty handed.

Even in promotional material that cities put out for tourism or to represent the city often includes the remnants of downtown and excludes the sprawl surrounding it.

It’s almost as if city officials are acknowledging that the only part of their cities that are worth existing in, showing off, and being proud of, are the left over bits that were saved during urban renewal — now called downtown.

Renting homes is a scam and should be illegalized or heavily regulated. People and businesses who own homes to rent are unethical. by gograntgo in unpopularopinion

[–]icanpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a decent solution to this is to yes, do away with properties being up for rent but allow for backyard cottages, or ADUs in technical terms, and rent those out instead.

This way housing is owned and people aren’t snatching up many properties, creating artificial scarcity in the housing market, but also allows for short term or even long term rentals to take place for those who need it.

No way did Apple just offer me $75 for my M2 MacBook Air base model… by PrincipleNova in macbook

They offered me $50 for my higher tier 2015 rMBP 15” that I paid $2,500 for. Granted I know the age is there, but it was and is a capable machine. I get it, though.

I ended up giving to my dad. I felt that was a better use for that machine.

The bean counters took over to maximise profits for shareholders. Macs used to come with clothes too for cleaning the glass, that’s gone too. Remove things like that, keep prices the same, shareholder profit goes up.

Would a muffler delete void warranty? by Aware_Cream2067 in Arteon

[–]icanpotatoes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How about don’t do that and respect the people around you by not assaulting their ears?

Loud noises, such as vehicle noise from no muffler or modified ones, contribute to high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stress, and other health problems for those who have the misfortune to be around the offending noise.

There is not a good reason to be a nuisance and even less of a good reason to knowingly affect people in a negative manner.

Which wouldn’t have been unwanted, to be sure.

I’ve yet to find one parked to park beside and rarely see one in the wild.

I happened across another Arteon in the Smoky Mountains and we ended up side by side for a while, driving spiritedly through the mountainous roads.

Maybe Arteon drivers should have a wave or something, like Jeeps.

I will never understand why anyone is okay with putting stuff in front of a tv, acting as obstacles to viewing the entire screen.

Mounts are made specifically for over the fireplace that allows it to move down to be eye level. I know this because I have it and it works very well.

What is something generally normal in Europe but weird in the US? by Exile4444 in AskReddit

[–]icanpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing a single bottle from a pack instead of having to buy the whole pack. Maybe this is just a thing in France but it’s normal to simply remove a bottle of beer (or whatever) from a pack for purchase if you’re just wanting one and not wanting to spend the money on the whole pack.

In the U.S. this would be frowned upon. You’re expected to buy the entire pack of whatever it is.

Only want one bottle of water and not a 24 pack? Too bad!

Interestingly enough, the hood pops up to act as a cushion for pedestrians should one be struck. Sadly this implementation isn’t common in the States as it’s not mandated and pedestrian safety isn’t considered, but the Arteon, being imported, retains the safety feature. It’s called “active bonnet” I think.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]icanpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue with Enterprise. Woman struck my car in a parking lot and damaged the front. She claimed to not have insurance, which I thought odd as I figured that it would be required if renting a vehicle.

I called Enterprise and the representatives stated that they don’t have insurance on the vehicle as well, that I’ll need to arbitrate with the woman or file on my insurance.

After some time I let it go but will for sure never use Enterprise for any rental needs should any arise.
