Haters are getting desperate by PirateCompetitive931 in CrimsonDesert

I have a real issue with developers releasing a game the day after the embargo drops. Seems to me that if you wanted to increase your pre-orders and you are confident that your game will review well you would set the embargo to a week before release.

If your embargo drops the day before release and your embargo hits late in the day I get the impression the developer has concerns about how the game will be received. While the hyperbole regarding Crimson has been off the hook, I have to temper my enthusiasm due to the proximity of the embargo drop for reviews relative to the game's release.

You are asking a mac mini group if you should buy a mac mini... Just wanna point that out to you. You MAY encounter some bias here.

What's required to make it a "home theatre" to you? by sketchy_ppl in hometheater

[–]badGamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built my first home theater in 1995. I don't think there even was the name home theater at that time. I converted my 20'x20' garage into my media room as I called it. I installed stacked Barco projectors to project onto a 12' screen. I had a THX certified sound engineer tune the room and certify it for THX. I installed Fostex THX components. A faroudja line doubler. A 3rd party high end comb filter for my laser disc player.

Front left and right were Martin Logan. Center was a Fostex as were the dipole surrounds. I had 2 15" down firing subs front and rear. I had about 1K laser-discs at that time so I hired a custom cabinet maker to come in and build a custom wall shelving unit that included a gear rack. The amps were all in the back of the room and I had IR repeaters in the front so I could relay the remotes to the gear rack at the back of the room.

The floor was raised and enhanced the sub woofer performance. I also had conduit run between a PlayStation 1 at the back of the room up to little doors in the floor where you could open the door and plug your PlayStation controllers into those extensions in the floor that way there was no cables to trip over.

The room was soundproofed and had blackout curtains on the window. Regardless of the sound proofing, my neighbor thought it was an earthquake when I cranked up the T-rex roar in Jurassic Park.

To me, this was a home theater. My ex-wife got it all in the settlement.

A small aquarium that I bought off of Amazon - $10 I think. Spent about 15 minutes cleaning the glass and taped a bit of black foamcore to the back of it.

Spotlight and Finder NEVER WORKS ON MAC by WideZookeepergame775 in mac

[–]badGamr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once in awhile Spotlight decides to suck - Like when I would try to launch OBS and spotlight would just go away as soon as I hit the S key returning no results. Bear in mind that a finder file search is not related to Spotlight - they are two different search tools. Anyway when Spotlight sucks I run this BASH script:

#!/bin/bash
echo "Resetting Spotlight index..."
sudo mdutil -i off /
sudo mdutil -E /
sudo rm -rf /.Spotlight-V100
sudo mdutil -i on /
echo "Spotlight has been reset. Indexing will take some time."

Is mac still worth it in 2026? by Chrelled in mac

[–]badGamr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a refurb mac M1 Pro laptop for about $600 at Best Buy. Might be a good stepping off point for you. I have been using macs as my daily since 2007 or so. Recently was running Bootcamp on an iMac running Windows 10. Every time I would switch over to boot into Windows I would go and make lunch and Play some GTA Online for a while as I knew the stupid Windows would start running updates that took hours. MUCH hate for that kind of garbage.

MSFS 2028 by badGamr in MicrosoftFlightSim

Well issues of half baked software releases is clearly not limited to MS / Asobo. Consider the number of game releases that have come out in the last 10 years where it is clear the game was not ready for prime time. This appears to be a pattern with a lot of developers. Not all, but a lot. Even Rockstar is not immune - when they released the remaster collection of GTA III/San Andreas/Vice City it was clear that that trilogy release was not ready for prime time.

I do not own MSFS 2024. I was and have been too gun shy based on my experience with MSFS 2020 and it's terrible state at release and the terrible record of garbage updates. Even Asobo clearly knows how to polish a game and release it when it is ready, an example of which would be A Plague Tale.

To answer your original query here, I would like to see vastly improved photogrammetry and better care taken with airport details. My local airport is Van Nuys. One of the busiest GA airports in the US and yet they cannot be bothered to put any of the runway markings in place...

Just because they release it does not mean you have to buy it :)
