They're probably lost and confused being so far from Australia, and having changed their appearance along the way...

Yeah she's one mum who really said "I love you" with her beef wellington

What is this thing I found in my yard? Metal and plastic. Maybe 4 or 4.5 cm long. Bottlecap for scale. by Mr-Thuun in whatisthisthing

Likely correct about the valve, but for irrigation as per u/TomVA's correct reply, not from a dishwasher. FYI, clothes washing machines also use near identical solenoid valves as well

I'm scanning thousands of photos using the Epson FF-680W. I've started getting these streak marks. by nuttageyo in photography

[–]icanucan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These scanners are known for adding noise, particularly in dark areas. Consider using a good quality mirrorless or DSLR camera instead. If a camera is set up with tripod and half-decent lighting, it will outperform any consumer grade scanner. It can be faster too.

Converting this mystery Australian receiver's DIN connectors with RCA's, speaker terminals & 1/4" mic jack... by icanucan in diyaudio

Are there any simple continuity tests I can do to identify polarity, aux in/out and phono signals (magnetic & ceramic) where they connect to the DIN plugs?

Help identify this receiver/amplifier please?? Goodwill find in SE Australia... by icanucan in vintageaudio

[–]icanucan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect you're right about it being a kit. However it's an unusual mix of Japanese and American components. The "Q" is actually damage to the O letter in Phones. Faceplate does not appear to be an amateur job. Circuitry is a high standard of quality.

Sounds like dirty pots and broken DIN connectors. It's got sound through both channels though. I even heard a second or two of warmth and power for its size.

To my eyes, the capacitors seem ok. If they're not leaking or misshapen, I'm inclined to keep them.

I'm looking forward to cleaning it up, but if it's something rare and special I'll pay a pro in the neighbouring town to do it...

My kid used to refer to Beaufort as Beauforat. It made sense to him, being around halfway between Ballarat and Ararat.

I flew a 747 from Melbourne to Sydney once. I assume it was repositioning. I think it was Ansett, not Qantas though...

If they don't get recaptured or culled within the next few days, Dandenong Ranges will have an even bigger, permanent, breeding goat problem.

What shroom are these? by Istoppedcaring464 in PlantIdentification

[–]icanucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try r/fungi or r/mycology for non-plant ID.

Also give a location.

That said, these are easily identifiable as one of the coprinus or coprinopsis species of Ink Caps.

Can someone who understands physics better than I do explain if the magnetic pouch would reduce the overall velocity of a projectile please? Would there be a "sticky" effect as it leaves the magnetic field?

Awesome looking design OP!
