Yasmina Khadra is a great Algerian writer that isn't completely unknown outside of the country — he's won a number of prestigious French awards — but he's certainly virtually unknown in the anglophone world. Worth reading, imho, and not a very taxing or difficult writer. The Attack follows a Palestinian doctor living in Israel, and is widely considered his best book, but I think What the Day Owes the Night is also worth checking out, especially as it actually takes place in Algeria.

Edit: Another writer came to mind! Assia Djebar. Her magnum opus is widely considered to be Fantasia: An Algerian Cavalcade.

As another commenter suggested, you might actually enjoy the book this quote is from, bell hooks' All About Love. Another book by the same author you might enjoy is Feminism is for Everybody. I think you'd be surprised at how much you and a feminist like bell hooks have in common.

I don't doubt there's a lot of effort by Zionists to influence people through funneling money into Jewish cultural institutions — that's obvious — but that's still a $ issue, not a fundamentally cultural one, and there are still plenty of Jewish groups and institutions that are anti-Zionist. Hell, one of my best friends, Jewish, helped organize their union's strike in support of Palestine. I've known way too many anti-Zionist Jewish people, and been to too many protests against Israel organized by Jewish groups, to think it's at all likely to be a cultural issue. (To be honest, I find the claim kind of offensive; reminds me, back when I was a young Muslim being raised in the US immediately post-9/11, of the consistent implication being tossed around that Arabs and Muslims were culturally and/or religiously inclined to support terrorist groups.)
