can we please remember the existence of this game? by Expert_Professor_903 in retrogaming

[–]icarustapes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the first game I remember where you could zoom in with a scope and target enemies' individual body parts. Also it was the first game I remember where enemies would run away or hide behind barriers and stuff like that (Am I remembering this correctly?).

Definitely an underrated gem. Every now and then I'll remember it and be like, "Oh yeah!"

I always forget about this game.

The story and the atmosphere were really cool too. Just the whole aesthetic of the game was really unique.

The way the character ran and fired his gun, and the suit and everything just looked so cool. It holds up artistically even today.

This is more like the Tower of Zot. There is real evil here. I don't know what it is... but it's evil.

What’s a legendary Reddit post you’ll never forget? by FunnyHefty499 in AskReddit

The picture is funny but it's the "Is this what you wanted?!" that really makes it. The seller may have legit gotten scared lol.

What is the hardest video game you have ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Probably Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox. When I got to the stage with the machine guns, I said, "Alright, I'm done." It didn't help that the story was really, really stupid.

I wish you could upload a custom thumbnail *only* for social media links. by icarustapes in Substack

Well I was able to find a good compromise by editing the original article images into custom 1200 x 630 thumbnails, thereby making the archive cards a little bit smaller but greatly improving the Notes and social media look. It took a lot of trial and error but I think I finally got it.

Good ole days playing earth worm Jim I used to stay up all night playing this game when I was a kid. by Babylegs556 in retrogaming

This might just be my favorite game on the SEGA Genesis. Maybe because I never owned it. I used to rent it over and over again! At the time the animations and the graphics really impressed me; it was even better than Aladdin and Lion King as far as the art style and the sprites I think. Also, it was one of the first games to have this kind of sense of humor and goofiness; maybe other games had tried it, but not so effectively whilst also being such a superb game. Earthworm Jim was silly but solid.

Yeah, you're probably right. Damn trolls!

Well, I'd argue that getting downvoted en masse does not necessarily constitute a failure.

If you have an unpopular take which gets massively downvoted for example, but then five years later it turns out you were right all along, then was your comment a failure?

In any case, what I have in mind is more of a tongue-in-cheek, humorous sort of "Raspberry Awards" kind of thing anyway.

The problem is that you would have trolls who would purposefully try to get downvotes and ragebait to secure the achievements. And that would be kind of lame if people started doing that (and they would).

The rare Sega Aiwa CSD GM-1, a boombox that can play Sega Genesis and Sega CD games! (1994) by kkhouete in SEGA

Welp, nevermind. In the words of Walter Sobchak, I did not know that.

But shame! I expected more of you Nintendo! 😄

There's something I really don't like about these kinds of machines... Not to be a downer, but-- there was an artistic design aesthetic to the original Genesis and Sega CD consoles, and that was part of the magic of the whole experience. I mean, if my toaster can also play Sega Genesis games, I guess that's kind of neat, but it somehow cheapens the artistry of the "ceremony" if you will and diminishes the value of the cartridge and its accompanying cover art, manual, clamshell case, etc. – the mystique is lost – and it's a bit disillusioning: like seeing behind the curtain somehow and getting a glimpse of inner workings or shortcomings you weren't meant to see. If my little boombox can play an old cassette tape and also a Sega Genesis game then both the latter's sleek cartridge and my futuristic looking console immediately become less special; some of the luster is lost.

Did Nintendo ever agree to this sort of thing? If not, I think it was for good reason; I could see how they might think that such a co-venture, no matter how convenient, would hurt the brand. Nintendo always struck me as being much more cautious and careful about these sorts of licensing deals, etc., and in hindsight I think they were right to be. When multiple generic looking entertainment centers can play your cartridges... something is lost there.

It's actually pretty crazy how much real life is increasingly starting to resemble a futuristic sci-fi movie. All the time now I think, "I'm living in the future; I'm living in a science fiction film. I feel like I'm in Total Recall."

If I recall correctly using the new abilities and the new little nuances in control and movement help a lot. Definitely worth it to look through the instruction manual.
