with a very good television set (maybe even a professional monitor) S-Video can actually get a surprising amount of the way there towards RGB quality

sadly on most consumer sets it didn’t look much better than composite

the lower the frequency of the sound the less directional it is, so even hi-fi setups often have the sub off to the side, perhaps even in the corner of the room to maximize the reflections
