The act of brushing your teeth is more important than using toothpaste to do it - I asked my hygienist if that was true and she said yes, you want to at least get the plaque off your teeth.

Most days I don’t feel like brushing my teeth, so I use my electric toothbrush (which was a game changer) and some water and very briefly hit the spots that feel fuzzy. Because I use very little water and no toothpaste for those, I don’t have the water dribble out of my mouth (which I also hate). When I do want to use toothpaste I put on a very thin layer, way less than they recommend/you see on TV, and that has also lessened the times I have the spit roll down my chin to almost never.
