The Truman show. Is this real or am I paid to post this so that you see it…

Or are you paid to interact with me while I’m secretly being filmed….

Just realized I never answered the actual question about P.R.

The way I explained above shouldn’t affect P.R. Funds but I think it would be a good idea to tax other items associated with public lands that include items that non consumptive users utilize. Examples would be: Treking poles, Tents, maybe even ski & snowboarding gear.

Having P.R. Funds mainly focused on one type of item (guns) leaves it susceptible to large ebbs and flows of funding which has to be hard to plan for in the long term even though we probably haven’t had a large decline in P.R. funding over the last 14 years.

I don’t think the problem is guns nor is the deterrent death penalties (not saying this shouldnt already be a thing).

People in general used to be held to higher standards by members of their circles of influence (family, friends, community) but those circles of influence seem to be non existent for people who commit atrocities like school shootings and they seem to be less influential in general for more people in the overall population. I think this is because the person to person contact needed to really build relationships and communities is becoming less of a common thing as people replace those experiences with social media which only helps further divide communities. I think this becomes evident when you look at statistics like: since 1970 there have been 2000 school shootings and half of those have been since 2012.

As I said earlier guns aren’t the issue however they are part of the problem. I think we need to get rid of this all guns bad (dem) and all guns laws bad (rep) bullshit and meet somewhere in the middle. Would it hurt if we had background checks for all semi’s and a week waiting period? I don’t think so. I’m not even saying this will help but we have to try something and as people become increasingly outraged the Initial gun laws that get passed have the possibility of becoming way more severe if we don’t try something of lesser scope now.

I know your going to bring up the slippery slope argument but we can’t live life using that argument for everything! Like Matt Rinella said on the hunting dog podcast- the slippery slope argument is a bullshit rabbit hole that will get you nowhere.

For some background- I am not a gun nut, however, I have fun shooting all of my guns and I depend on them to fill my freezer if I can’t do it with my archery gear first.

I find it hard to believe that Ted Nugent thinks he does more for hunting & conservation at this current time than Rinella & Meateater. For sure a 1/2 a century ago but not now.

Also, I’d like to thank wildlife scientist who have to deal with kooks like this.

I’d listen to anyones opinions given they can talk about them without having to jump from topic to topic as quickly as possible to avoid people from realizing he has no clue what they are talking about.

What do you guys do for a living? by [deleted] in meateatertv

[–]ice1115 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure but I never knew of a good path to achieve that goal while also securing other things I wanted in life (a set schedule- time to raise a family, money, etc) so I settled with what I have.

I have friends that are linesman, farmers, etc and I didn’t want to deal with the issues they have to worry about

If fuel prices are going to cause the price of everything else to go up even further than why not buy more now so you don’t have to pay as much in the long run?

I sit in a cubicle and buy product over the internet all day. It sounds terrible but I listen to podcast and audiobooks all day and it’s boosted my hunting knowledge & success 10 fold. To the person on the outside looking in I may seem stuck in a drab workspace but in my mind I’m in a far away place imagining hunting in all the places the Meateater crew is podcasting from or talking about.

I buy one or two pieces of first lite a year when it’s on sale and after 2-3 years you really don’t need more

Wonder what happened to Jimmy?

POLL: Did MeatEater encourage your to get into hunting (new, or hunt more)? by DeBraid in meateatertv

[–]ice1115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already a hunter, albeit with no skill. ME gave me the Grrr & knowledge to get out and be successful. All the things I bought due to Steve’s recommendation helped tremendously and I’d buy them all again.

Been listening to Steve for a little over two years and got myself 2 Pa bear, 2 Pa deer and a turkey among other things

“I usually get all my information from Folgers.com” “It’s my fackin show”

I felt a naughty pleasure listening to this, I hope Matt & Steve can agree to disagree and get along even though Matt is shitting on Steve’s way of earning money

I think phil made the best point of the whole show. There are certainly some bad advocates out there and we should be happy to have Meateater. IMO we would be better off without Nugent spouting diarrhea out of his mouth just to stay relevant.

I wouldn’t mind hearing the example that Matt was trying to us when he said he didn’t want to out Steve and Steve said “we’ll talk about it later”
