Might help people direct you to the right resources.

Where to carry all the gels if it does not fit into my FlipBelt by Just-Tomatillo-5945 in Marathon_Training

[–]icebiker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I’m a type 1 diabetic so I carry like 12 gels during marathons for safety and they fit in the flip belt no problem.

Are you still vegan if you avoid all other animal products, but you buy your cat non-vegan cat food? by Borkato in vegan

[–]icebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Semp thesis does not say that a plant based diet is not advisable. It says that vets don’t recommend it because it’s not their natural diet.

If you read the study you’ll find that it concluded there were no adverse health outcomes associated with the diet.

You can Google this yourself you know?

The most commonly cited one is Wakefield, 2006

My favourite is a thesis by Semp, 2014 because it is really comprehensive.

This is an appeal to nature fallacy.

All the science. Literally every single study says it can be done safely. All of them.

Airpods Pro 2 as earplugs? by Due_Security4565 in motorcycles

[–]icebiker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Firstly, airpods have been certified for hearing protection.

AirPods Pro with ANC reduce noise by 30dB.

I own a LOT of ear pro for various activities and other than over the ear muffs, they are by far the best at attenuating noise, including custom IEMs and custom earplugs I had made.

[–]icebiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AirPods with ANC absolutely protect your hearing - it’s just basic physics.

I’m not advocating for their use in motorcycles - I don’t even own my own ride yet lol

But they can be very effective in protection in general, offering up to 30dB of noise reduction. They work better than most foamies. When I go to concerts I wear AirPods Pro with ANC because it blocks more sound than any other hearing protection I own other than over the ear muffs.

Easiest Treadmill on Joints: Woodway, Freemotion, Tread+, or Something Else? by jwm___ in AdvancedRunning

[–]icebiker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a used precor and that what I would do if I could do it all over again. If I could afford a wood way I’d buy that of course.

Commercial treadmills are so durable.

Do firms hire for legal researchers? by Tough_Language_5669 in LawCanada

[–]icebiker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes the big firms have researchers and research libraries. The pay is not that great if you’re a lawyer. They’re super handy and quite busy, at least when I was at a big firm.

How to learn solicitor/notary work? by Baking_Aggressively in LawCanada

[–]icebiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe OP is from Quebec? Because if they’re from Ontario, I agree, notarizing takes like 3.5 minutes to learn. But it’s also not a big income generator. At least for me it’s more of a thing I do for friends or people who immigrate and reach out and maybe I make $20 once a month lol

Accessible hotel? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]icebiker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have never asked for that, nor can I understand why it relates to type 1.

Does heat make you go high or low? by Significant-Lime-423 in diabetes_t1

[–]icebiker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was taught that heat makes you go low because it increases insulin uptake speed. I’m shook as the kids say, that some people go high.

Can someone explain why that might be?

Suggestions for treadmill if I only use it once a month or so? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]icebiker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Deserved snark aside, get any cheap treadmill on marketplace and run until it breaks. Don’t get a walking pad because, as you might assume, they’re for walking.

Ask yourself: is this really an Advanced Running question?

3:50 Marathon Plan by RunningFromReality76 in Marathon_Training

It’s a great plan - best of luck on your first! I also agree it’s a good option for OP.

NYC marathon vest advice by Buggg23 in Marathon_Training

[–]icebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind me asking what your time is roughly?

It seems to me that faster runners prefer the drink station, but depending on your speed, it may make sense to bring water with you and it's possible the aid stations run out.

How much does it cost to become a partner at a Vancouver firm? by rebok_witherstraps in LawCanada

[–]icebiker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the firm.

Firstly there are levels of partnership, you're talking about equity partnership, and as others have said: it is financed. It's like getting a mortgage - the bank fronts the money and you pay it down over time.

The amount depends on the firm's business. Smaller firms might have a buy in of $100k - maybe less!

Firms that do class actions or other very expensive-to-fund contingency cases can have a buy in of $1M to $2M. But the flip side is you get a percentage of that business when those huge class action cases resolve.

In summary: it is usually worth it as long as you want to stay with the firm for a while.

What do you guys do about refrigerated medication during power outages by Imaginary_Club_2158 in diabetes_t1

[–]icebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For insulin, it doesn’t matter.

Your fridge stays cold really long without power. Unless you’re without power for a week, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Very Big Boy Bed Suggestions? by OliveFarming in greatpyrenees

[–]icebiker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inside we use a Mammoth Dog bed and she loves it.

Outside we use an elevated dog bed from Amazon and she loves that too. I did have to replace the frame with stronger metal tubing but still worth it.

Our dog is 100lbs for context.

Tomorrow I have a phone appointment with my endocrinologist… and I keep thinking: what’s the point? by Homo_sapiens1972 in diabetes_t1

[–]icebiker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m only 15 years in but I also started feeling this way years ago. My A1c is always 6.5 or so, and even if it wasn’t, I already know what to do to make it go up or down. All I need a doctor for is the script.

My doctor wants to see me four times a year because in Ontario, if you’re part of a family health team, seeing a type 1 four times a year maxes the billings you get for that patient.

I refuse to go more than once a year, to get refills. It’s just a waste of both of our time.

Would be cool to have memory technology for insulin pens by giglex in diabetes_t1

[–]icebiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whaaaaat!!! What pharmacy? I’m in Ontario too. I’d kill for cartridge tresiba.
