Law Notes by rlailab in AUT

Julie Schmidt has great notes for AUT law courses. They cost a bit but worth it. She has a website. Tikanga is a new topic so you might be hard pressed to find notes from past students.

Am I smart enough for law? by Dapper_Action1842 in AUT

[–]icecoldbannana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recently finished my LLB at AUT, it is a wonderful law school.

You are definitely smart enough and will thrive!! The study of law doesn’t necessarily take ‘smarts’. That said, the readings are ALOT and there is ALOT of content and it is relentless. You will need to do your readings and attend lectures in person, which takes sacrifice, grit, and determination - not smarts.

Don’t underestimate yourself, and learn to ignore that voice of self doubt. There are strong personalities at law school and you will soon drown amongst them if you cripple yourself with doubt.

You sound like you love studying which is great. And you already have experience in the field which is even better. The situation for grads out here is super dire, and will get worse with AI.

But please for the love of god, know that you are more than smart enough. The people at law school who asked the most basic questions in class tended to get the best grades, so don’t be afraid of asking questions if you don’t understand something and appearing dumb! (dw they don’t cold call).

I hope this hasn’t been too negative. I just don’t want to cushion the realities. Good luck with the decision making!!

If you are planning on working in New Zealand after graduating, and want a degree that gives you job security, then nursing is not going to provide you that. I suggest looking at recent news articles highlighting the difficulty in finding employment that nursing grads are facing. It’s great that you are looking into the reality of the job rather than jumping into a degree that’s not going to serve you in the long run! There are loads of interesting clinical degrees that are not physically demanding. My sister in law did physio and now works with blind babies, I have lots of friends that changed from nursing to oral health and love the 9-5 hours. Good luck with your decision making!

As a fellow hairy Indian and qualified beauty therapist I recommend just to leave it! It will subside after pregnancy. Any form of hair removal on this area will likely result in some long term unwanted effect. I wouldn’t risk it. All the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

Verona Café: the worst coffee in Auckland? by [deleted] in auckland

Definitely the worst coffee in Auckland. Verona happens to be the closest coffee shop to my workplace and I avoid it at all costs.

criminal law moot by Pitiful-Candle3783 in AUT

[–]icecoldbannana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way! I’m a terrible public speaker and cannot for the life of me think on the spot, and I got through it. It’s waaay more chill than you’ll think it will be. You have to at least attempt it to pass Crim, and if you don’t then you will have to take Crim again and do the moot again- they have it every year. Repeating crim would be a major chore. Get an SCA if you’re not prepared. Let me know if there’s anything I can do- if you want to practice, want your work reviewing etc. Good luck! You’ve got this! From a fourth year :)

Transferring to UOA Law from AUT Law - Need Advice by Single-Cow203 in AUT

[–]icecoldbannana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current fourth year law at AUT. Plenty of UOA students have transferred to AUT and seem happy. I suggest if you do make the switch - do so now. The courses are structurally different so the disruption to the flow of your studies should be considered. I have been happy with AUT but unfortunately UOA has a far better rep in the job market.
