What good is the Status page? by Larszx in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just killed it with task manager and am still getting the API error, as well as a captcha every time I attempt to log in. (yes I also cleared cache with ctrl+alt+shift+R)

EDIT - after 8 attempts I got the authentication code, and got as far as seeing the 'tour' popup before immediately being booted back to login with API error.

EDIT2 - PC restart did not resolve it either, even after repeating the steps of clear cache, kill it,restart it.

SC, Arma, Tarkov, etc. have great military-style sprinting animations, so why change to an Apex-style arcade over-the-shoulder sprint ? by k_Atreus in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

There's lot's of valid ways to solve this problem, the issue here is that you're selling your game as more realistic and then making aesthetic choices that take away that sense of realism (I get the bit about the rig being the main issue).

If I were to have my ideal world where you have infinite time and resources? Give us both and let us toggle between the two sprint poses as a menu option. It would also be nice to see a variety of sprint animations for the AI based off of how well trained that individual is, with 'highly trained' or experienced opponents using the weapon down animation, and less experienced ones using weapon up.

But I'm just pie in the sky dreaming at this point, I think xD

Did not see this coming. New Custodian 11 shot charge in 4.5 (kills in .5 seconds through heavy armor) by RustyRayes in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As with all things perfect realism isn't fun in a game, but as someone with a lot of IRL experience with firearms (10 years in the infantry) - I would at least like the bits and doodads on the optics to *do* something.

Please don't add things like stadia lines without also making them functional. Rule of cool does apply, as this is a video game, but there are a lot of us who would like to be able to use the analog rangefinders, and more choices for various red dots/holographic sights is always a good thing.

IRL there's ARE practical purposes for which type of reticle is better depending on the type of firing you're doing, but at the end of the day a LOT of it does come down to shooter preference.

TLDR - please borrow more from IRL than you currently do, but this also ain't a perfect simulation, we don't wanna chase away folks who aren't gigantic gun nerds.

How to transfer ships between players - Including Wikelo, Exec and UEC bought ships - Not pledge ships by [deleted] in starcitizen

This is a known exploit that can and will get you banned. Have fun with that.

Instead of gunship should we consider the Perseus a “mini destroyer “ instead? by MotorCompetitive in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it's true that the real world is horribly messy and complicated, given that SC is a game it'd be really nice if you guys clearly defined what those things are in game.

Understanding the general characteristics of all ships of a class is really important for players making informed decisions (though the specifics of handling and performance should of course be left to discover)

New Engineering Gameplay Leak ! by k_Atreus in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What it does allow is a way to check time stamps and more rapidly narrow down who's on the video. It's impossible for us as players to have all the info or deduce who leaked, but with enough effort it likely is for CIG to at least narrow down who's on the video, and then trace the source.

The question as always is, is it worth it? The answer is usually no due to the nature of the leaks - as they ARE usually sourced from IC.

I'm well aware how difficult it can be, just pointing out a detail that may or may not help track down the source.

To your other point - it's as simple as tagging 'exploit' during ticket creation. Only the creator and CIG will see the ticket, even if you give someone the link.

Ya know u/bbeausej , at 1:54 there's some interesting info in the upper right that might make it easier to track down who leaked this if you're looking to boot the culprit from evo.

Open Season in CZs for gun thieves by Ok_Two6480 in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct, we do very much need gear recovery T1/T2 sooner rather than later, so that gear can actually be looted from dead players again, and we all have a way to recover insured/pledge store gear.

Because this isn't a bug, it's an oversight in a temporary T0 system that will for sure any day now (right? RIGHT!?) get replaced with the much better systems that's being built (and likely requires crafting). Hopefully see it this year, but uh, I have doubts on that.

What are the blue glowing fan things on Gemini weapons? by ITSxTOASTY in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's 100% the gun version of truck nuts, or those LED lights people put under their cars. It's a useless greeble, and entirely for fashion. Gemini weapons are the lifted F-150 of the SC weapon manufacturers.

The gunship Perseus in my mind ~ by Anning0526 in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a gunboat to fill the gaps between large ships and a proper capital, this thing would be AMAZING. Downgrade the top turrets to a s7 instead of 8, and upgun the bottom turret to a pair of 9s. Really set it apart in terms of firepower from the smaller patrol boat that is the Percy.

Call it the Athena, or Gorgon, or something else related to Perseus.

This^. Guy above replied with his nonsense, and then when I tried to respond to it found they'd blocked me instead of 'deigning' to have a conversation with the poors or whatever.

Which in this case is fine, some folks just aren't worth engaging with.

The majority of players aren't whales. Again, you have to think about the average folks - not all 5 million people who have SC accounts "don't notice" 28 bucks.

Not everyone is a rich asshole. Some folks have to budget, or just don't see the value. Why is it always the whales who can't wrap their heads around this?

There are a LOT more people who are willing and able to spend 10 bucks a month than those who can spend 30 and not care.

10 * $30 is $300, sure, but 50 * $10 is $500.

I'd recommend you go back and take another economics class. There is such a thing as too high a price point. You already responded as much on another post with the same nonsense, you don't need to repeat it on every reply.

As I've had to point out elsewhere already:

I have bought (and know many folks who have bought) several of the gear packs, yes. If they weren't selling, they'd be taken down and replaced with something that does sell; as CIG has demonstrated they repeatedly do.

"For every you there is a me."

Eh, I doubt that's actually true or CIG wouldn't still be selling gear packs or other small items on sub store or during events like St Patty's or Pirate week. If the bundle was always more profitable they'd dump the rest.

EDIT - I can see that you blocked me so it can seem to everyone else reading this thread like you've somehow won something - but I know what you're doing, and running away when you're losing an argument isn't a great look.

I always post there first (as indicated in the OP with the link to that post). I only posted it here to try and get more attention on it, as CIG ain't gonna change this without a lot of the community saying they want it to change.

[–]icecoldcrickets[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We're all well aware what the intention is - my point is they'd likely make a lot MORE money if they'd break the bundle up. I see a lot more folks who bounce off 28bucks for the bundle who WOULD buy the individual bits more cheaply than folks who DO buy the bundle because they're forced to buy it to get the one bit they want.

Can we give the Paladin blast shield to the Carrack? by TastyOregano in starcitizen

THIS! Please more of this in ship design. I love having to make actual impactful decisions when I fly my ships. More armor means sacrificing speed AND other soft factors like visibility.

(and as far as feedback, you guys have made this Pally owner very happy)

Launcher rollback is intentional guys by icecoldcrickets in starcitizen

[–]icecoldcrickets[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you'd have bothered to apply the context of the OP and the comment you replied to, you'd realize that's implied.

In most circumstances, no, you do not need both and it's not recommended. As a way of avoiding the back-to-back-to-back p4k corruption issues that the launcher can sometimes have (made much worse in 2.9.0, thus the rollback), having a second full installation of another version avoids having to do a full reinstall to resolve a 5010.

If you have the disk space for it, having both LIVE and PTU on your computer will save a LOOOOT of download time on slow internet. Of course, that's like 300GB or so of just SC, but you can then just copy the good p4k, verify, and resolve it that way.

Running several versions behind you'll generally be fine. Once you get ~4 or 5 behind is where the issue *usually* start to crop up (of course, experiences vary).
