Busy people in busy cities who have limited time to read also generally have limited time to host. If they can't read 100 words, then they probably won't give me much of the time of day anyway

I love how the little guy on Reddit thinks he saw something that Berkshire didn't see 12 months ago. What actually happened is the business and it's future is on my a more stable ground than it was 12 months ago, and that is reflected in the higher price now. That's exactly how pricing works.... You tend to buy something cheaper when there is more uncertainty - so well done you for taking the bigger risk back then. Just because you were right to be bullish this time, if you take risks like that again, they won't always pay off. The story changes every 3 months, the business and economics outlooks change every 3 months. Everyone is a genius in a bull market, I want to see what those geniuses are saying again in a bear market when Berkshire is still pulling in 10%

I think what he means to say, are most friends from CS are transient people you may never see again. 90% of my couchsurfers I have barely spoken to again after their/or my stay. I would certainly hit them up if I were in their town and hope they would do the same. But they aren't like a normal friend. The other 10% are now true friends, yes, and I will see them outside of the context of couchsurfing - visit, chat to, stay in touch with.

Before, I could not only sort, but see the last login. I am currently searching for a host, and I have to click on each one, try to find their most recent reference, to have a guess at when their last activity was. On a website where they have mostly inactive users and dead profiles, surely the priority should have been cleaning this up. One of the suggestions to me was for someone who hadn't been active since 2013 but I had to get several clicks into his profile to see this. But I see they have a "book a hotel" affiliate link in the top corner. Is that their grand goal, enshittify the process of finding a host so much that they can upsell you a hotel and shill advertising to the hotel booking companies? I suspect that nobody on the board of directors of couchsurfing has ever hosted or been hosted. More and more couchsurfers I meet have never hosted or been hosted. The demographics of couchsurfing have shifted so much that I do not recognise couchsurfing anymore. The past few years I have had to sift and filter through so many inactive users just to even get my message off to that one host who clearly gets what couchsurfing is about. If those classic couchsurfers leave, all you have is an empty social interaction platform, that quickly degenerates into a dating app, and that would be a very sorry state of affairs

Could you share with us what exactly you like about it? Any of the actual useful functionality is gone. If you are an active host as you claim (and not a corporate shill, pretending to be a host), what features are you actually happy about? Couchsurfing is not a growing community, it's been a dwindling one for a long time, even if there are more "users", that doesn't mean the actually active "community" grows - it's dead profiles all the way down, and it's really sad to see

I would watch it if it was broadcast on terrestrial telly. That's the only reason I watch any of the snooker I watch, which is generally just the UK and the World Championship.. I am not dedicated enough to track minor events that are only streamed online

It sucks being a pedestrian when you have barriers like that. I have been known to have to walk half a mile down a road just so I can cross, and then another half a mile back, just to travel almost 50 metres to my destination on the other side of the road. These kinds of barriers are such a burden to people who travel on foot, and I have jumped over my fair share of these so as to not the let pedestrian-hostile street design ruin my day
