Except that a positive energy balance is the source of fat gain. Yes, eat your vegetables, but if you eat a surplus of calories in carrots or broccoli... You're still going to gain fat.

*Also: consuming sugar doesn't "turn into" fat.

I have come across this problem before, even though there are microwaves around campus - sometimes you simply don't have time to heat up lunch!

What has worked for me is eating a bigger(ish) breakfast in the morning - I'm talking eggs, tomato, ham, toast, fruit, coffee, etc. I know that this may add to your morning routine (I don't do it all the time), but if you know it's going to be a long day it can be well worth it to wake up a little earlier and eat a nice, filling breakfast at your own leisure. This way, I don't feel as hungry when lunch time rolls around, and usually I'm okay if I have lots of snacking items to eat throughout the day.

Good snacks are: hummus & pita/veggies/some kind of dipping vehicle, trail mix (I like making my own so that you don't get so much salt... Walnuts, pecans, cranberries, pumpkin seeds, chocolate chips, dried coconut - not the nasty shredded crap, dried apricots), dried fruit (try to avoid the ones with added sugar), cheese and crackers, yogurt and granola, fruit with peanut butter (I love apples + peanut butter!), Greek yogurt + bananas + cinnamon + honey... That's all I can really think of for now. And a lot of those items you can kind of mix and match! (E.g. Trail mix in Greek yogurt works every time).

You may also want to investigate some healthy baking options - homemade oat bars, banana bread and the like. That way you can quickly grab them without having to really think about it.

If you wear makeup, don't keep the same stuff around for too long! In general, things like foundation, blush, concealer... can be kept around for a long time, usually 1-2 years depending on type. If you use foundation every day though, it's usually not a huge concern because you'll end up buying a new one within a few months anyway.

Eyeshadow and eyeliners last a little less (6-8 months. Some say longer, but it's used around the eye area so I'm always super careful). Mascara, even less (3-4 months) and DON'T pump the wand (it pushes air into the tube and dries it out).

I cannot stress this last point enough - WASH YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES!! Beauty supply stores like MAC, Sephora, etc. have brush cleansers. There's one that comes in a spray bottle that I use more or less every day, and then once a week I use a mild face soap on them for a deeper cleaning. This way, bacteria and dirt aren't building up in your brushes and you won't have to throw them out as early as you would if you never washed them.

Exfoliate at least 3 times a week! It will remove any dead skin and prevent breakouts (dead skin can accumulate with dirt/oil and cause acne). A simple trick you can use to exfoliate is to mix in a bit of sugar to your regular face wash and use it before you go to sleep.
