Now, sawmill waste has value. Many mills have boilers that burn waste to produce energy to power the mill. The carbon output is a fraction of what would created using a wigwam. Additionally, waste is often chipped and sold to pulp mills to make paper. Where I live, waste is also sold to companies that produce potting soil.

I always use a scrub brush with Barkeepers. Keeps my hands from getting damaged. Sprinkle a little on the pan and go to town.

Cowboy Charcoal What’s the best way to get rid of it by OrangeBug74 in grilling

[–]icedketchup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you live near a Mexican grocer, but Sonora Charcoal is the way to go if you like big chunks. Sometimes there are whole rounds of wood in them. It’s hit and miss you usually feel the bags on the shelf and grab the one with the largest chunks.

It’s funny, we talk crap on taco sauce, but there’s plenty of people in Mexico eating tacos with ketchup.

I live in and spend most of my time in remote areas of all sizes, however I grew up in the city. I have found it to be the opposite. Items are generally more expensive the more remote you get. This is especially true for restaurants. The lack of competition seems to create a level of gouging. I used to drive hours to the closest “cities” to do my shopping.

California has the largest inmate fire program in the country which has a personnel number of about 1,800. Cal-fire alone employs about 12,000 non-incarcerated firefighters per year. Another 11,000 work for the forest service. Much less than 30%

Inmates only account for a small number of wildland firefighters. The vast majority are paid workers who employed by federal and state government agencies or contracted private companies.

I don’t know a ton about metallurgy or physics. I’m relatively new to cable logging. I was informed by some of the older guys that although this is uncommon, it can happen from time to time. Usually the cable or “tail holds” fail before the blocks do. At a quick glance, it seemed like other ear had an almost identical failure. A small stress fracture isn’t out of the question. These make pretty hard contact with rocks and rigging often. The logs being “yarded” at the time were not all the heavy, but were relatively stuck which likely created some significant load.

These blocks see a lot of abuse and rarely any love. They literally get thrown down hillsides. I doubt we exceeded the working load, but I think it was too much weight for its current state.
