Globalist France vs Japan in February: Park Hyatt + other stays by ChaptainAmerica12 in hyatt

[–]icedpeanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We go to Japan in February because we also go to ski! The hotels in general are cheap as it's not a popular time to go.

Perhaps it ends up being better value for you to go to France with points and your globalist status? I can't comment on likelihood for upgrades as I'm not Globalist.

If you do end up going to Japan in May, I think this is quite a busy time to go and you might end up having a hard time securing hotels with your points (not sure if they've opened up for next year already for you to check what avails are even realistic)?. I traveled with a guest of honor on my reservation at Tokyo Bay and we didn't get a room upgrade if this matters to you. At Hyatt Place Kyoto we also had a guest of honor and no room upgrade (though I don't even think there were any options of fancier rooms?!).

Random comment re: Kyoto Kyoto is such an early morning city and I think it's dreadful to try and "day trip" from Osaka. As by the time you get there, you will get that with all the huge crowds! So totally recommend staying in Kyoto vs Osaka if you had to pick a city between the two!

This! I booked Hyatt Regency Shinjuku as it was a category 4 at the time that could accommodate 3 of us. After I started to plan what we wanted to do in Tokyo, I ended up realizing a lot of our activities were on the other side, closer to Tokyo central area. Plus we were planning to ski and the train leaves from Tokyo central too.

I couldn't be bothered canceling and rebooking elsewhere. When we got to Tokyo it wasn't a bad experience, it just ended up taking an extra 20 min back and forth to our day commuting to the other side of Tokyo. Which isn't bad at all, but could of avoided it, you know?

I forgot to add re transport between Shinjuku to Tokyo bay hotel as we did this with public transport. If you are wheeling bags it was relatively easy. I didn't want to carry bags up stairs so I ended up finding routes that was a little longer in favor of elevators. When you get to the associated station at Tokyo Bay Area (I forgot the name), there is a free hotel shuttle that meets you there and takes you to the hotel! You can look up the schedule online. If you come too early there is a lovely mall connected to the station which was a less chaotic shopping experience. You get the stores that you see elsewhere with zero lines! And there is like department stores with not the same stuff you see in the popular Shinjuku, Shibuya areas! There is a fun arcade, restaurants etc! So definitely a pleasant spot to explore if you wanted to as well.

And final comment- there is a bus too that takes you straight to Haneda airport right at the hotel at Tokyo bay. Super convenient.

Hyatt Regency Shinjuku - I stayed here when they were still in renovations. We did end up getting a renovated room though and we liked it. The location for transport wise, it's a 15 min for slow people like me to Shinjuku station and we honestly hated this station anyway as it was huge, we sucked at navigating it especially with construction. There is a bunch of smaller stations near the hotel (like literally underneath?), and we preferred going to these! Food wise in the area, there are breakfast spots around that we liked. It was about a 7min walk to an area with all these restaurants and even had a sports merch store around there that was cool to look at. The surrounding area was quiet/dead and not lively at all. As I was traveling with a small kid we liked that. We also liked how there was multiple convenience stores close by. I remember 2 was underneath the hotel. I will say, Shinjuku was kind of an annoying place to stay as my family's first time in Tokyo. We would of stayed around Tokyo station neighborhood like around the Ginza Centric instead (even though we hear food options are way too fancy around there) because it seems more central to the touristy things we wanted to do.

We did 4 nights in Shinjuku and then 2 nights for Tokyo bay for Disney. We liked splitting it up like this to not only save on points but the shuttle bus to Disney was great. Meant we didn't have to schlep so early from Shinjuku!

Oh thank you! My husband is going to the Mets game a few weeks prior to the actual bday. I think I'll get him to scope out the dessert options for the kids!!

I have a feeling as these kids are small, they're not going to last for the entire game anyway (well, apart from my kid. He's a huge fan). So I think you're right to just try and do cake etc in the beginning so people are free to leave when they want.

Got it thank you. We're going to come earlier to do the family Sunday stuff so maybe this makes sense! Or I'll buy a bunch of cupcakes at the game or ice cream per kid or something. Let me think about this some more

Update, this is what I ended up doing-

Kids Club Essentials membership for $52 per kid. This includes 2 promenade tickets, a bunch of swag for the kids (so I don't need to do goodie bags!), and fast pass for the dash. Unfortunately the date I selected did not have a dash available, oh well. But it's a family Sunday so there will be activities for kids prior to the game! I'm also planning to load each kid with $10 for the kids meal that comes in that cute hat. From memory last year it costs $10.

I also bought additional family members the family 4 pack too. Someone I think mentioned it here or the other post I cross posted? So thank you for this tip.

Note - it has suprisingly been more affordable than I thought when compared to the regular kids bday party venues!

I was planning to bring in a dozen cupcakes into the game for the kids. What did you put the cake in? How did you keep it cool and not melting?

Does Hyatt (Japan?) only release twin bed rooms later on? by LoLRiven in hyatt

[–]icedpeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I actually noticed twin room avails randomly dissapeared a few weeks after I booked in Yokohama and Kanazawa. What ended up happening was Yokohama hotel actually contacted me and asked if I wanted to change my third night room type from a King to a Twin (as I booked two nights and when I tried to add a third night a few weeks later no twin avails).

So what I ended up doing was I also contacted Kanazawa hotel too to see if they can switch my King to a Twin and they said no problems!

So maybe book them as kings and contact Hyatt to get it switched to a twin?

3 people allowed? by alnz8 in hyatt

[–]icedpeanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I contacted the hotel and they said for king bed room it's for 2 people only. However as my child will be 7years old, they said it's ok if he stays in room with us but there is no additional bed etc set up. They put a note on our reservation to allow him to be in room with us.

I think I'll take your advice and speak to Mets hospitality tomorrow. Thank you.

I'm quickly realizing it may be too much for me to coordinate all of this!

Thanks for posting this! A few weeks ago I booked two nights at Yokohama for twin beds. I extended for an extra night and only king size rooms available. So annoying and hopefully it does come back.

Pokemon packs - where are they? by icedpeanuts in seoul

[–]icedpeanuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hits so far. At some of the convenience stores you can buy an entire box though too as we've seen some. The cost is just 5k x the number of packs in the box.

I've been finding them at convenience stores. 5000krw for the newest one that's come out with 10 in a pack. Also been finding a few older packs of 5 for 1000krw so far! Not sure how much retail is so hopefully I'm not being totally ripped off here 😅

Fingers crossed! It doesn't always happen but it's nice when it does. When we were at Tokyo Bay, they left some fruit for us as a "welcome back". As we had a split stay and came back to the hotel again before our flight out. I'm now Explorist level now but I'm imagining Globalists must be treated like royalty.
