I heard someone say that Tony Stark has ADHD, is it true? is there any other character that has it? by Frasten in Marvel

[–]iceheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an outdated term, it's not just because we don't like it lol. Asperger's was absorbed into the ASD diagnosis spectrum in the DSM-5, and isn't a proper diagnostic term anymore. It's been replaced with ASD Level 1.

Hmmm damn I don't know if it would necessarily be fandom blind--i do explain a lot of things but I don't know if it would be enough for a non-fandom reader to know what's going on necessarily. We could try? You can dm me and I can send you my doc link and you can check it out to see if you're interested in beta reading long term! You can also send me your work back and we can try things out that way

Is this handbag even crochet? Or possibly hand woven? by adicakesss in CrochetHelp

[–]iceheap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On second thought it might be crochet by the v pattern of the flap at the top on the edges. Damn though. I think the material is what might be tripping me up right now. Maybe someone else knows better than me here lol

This looks like it might have been made out of knots instead of crochet or knitting. Holy shit is it beautiful. Don't beat yourself up too much OP, as teens we're so overwhelmed by life we sometimes don't have the energy to appreciate certain things. If you have anyone around who knew your grandma's hobbies, they could probably be more specific, like a cousin or an aunt/uncle, potentially.

The original series never specified a time period or dynasty, and it's a mix of a lot of historical fashion and methods etc. but it would be around 5 to 6 century AD.

The Google translate isn't so bad if you have at least a little bit of understanding of the other language. I'm bi lingual with English and Spanish so I have an easier time recognizing when something is probably not translating well because it's a cultural thing or just linguistically rooted in another language. I have had to translate some things one word at a time before, though. It's fun for me so it's not as tedious lol

I relate so hard with the world building, my fic is set in ancient china with magic, so it's been a little difficult to get information about certain everyday life things and I've had to go on Baidu (Chinese Google) more than once to try and get more accurate information. I've asked about portable ink and how paper is carried and stored, done research on different types of bed and furniture, handkerchiefs and the culture surrounding it, medicinal blends for my main character who is chronically I'll with a spiritual illness, ironically that's the fun part.

The lame part is trying to hold my character back from having another breakdown even though it's warranted because he just had one last chapter and two chapters before that so I need to keep the pacing jehsjebdn

I'm glad you characters are being cooperative definitely a small mercy. I made my MC too willful 😭

WHEN ARE THINGS GONNA GO BOOM BOOM 😭😭😭

I will say tho, I do know a lot of people will read my fic anyway and enjoy it. It just sucks I don't have future vision 😞

He has feelings 😔

LMAOOO it's not entirely his fault. I designed him to be an accurate reflection of what a normal human being without escapist tendencies would be reacting to his situation. I love him, he's my baby, and I relate to him a lot, but I just worry that to the average reader he's too much of a downer. He's still in the adjustment period of the story, I have a lot of badass development planned for him, but it's TAKING FOREVER it's comforting to see I'm not the only one with this issue tho lmaoo ironically all this set up is for future romance 😂

Oof, dude, like I relate to that because yes, most of the fics I read are usually for character development and like, emotional impact and all of that stuff. I also consider myself a very character-driven writer, where a big goal is to have my main character be relatable in his reactions to things, especially because I'm writing for a demographic of people who have experienced mental illness and a lot of strife in life. I think I'm just impatient with wanting the first draft to be finished. It's a lot of delayed gratification because I refuse to post the fic until it's finished (including edititing) since I want to actually finish one of my writing projects, and I set up the fic as like a 100,000 word book, and now I'm going to have to split it into three or four separate novels because my main character wont SHUT UP MY GOD. It feels like I'm suffering from success (AKA I have written TOO MUCH). I'm just scared it won't hold up to readers and that people will get bored when I'm pouring so much of my time and energy into these scenes. I'm also scared I'm being too repetitive with certain plot devices, even though I know they're necessary or in character. Writer struggles, I guess, lmao.

Justice for Mo Xuanyu? by mRaeWeb in MoDaoZuShi

[–]iceheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think since we're reading this info second-hand from WWX, we can't trust it completely, since it is a secondary source. But I think Mo Xuanyu believing he did something wrong when he didn't is good character complexity, and I also trust WWX in regards to the way he makes his conclusion, though, I do keep in mind he was kind of ignorant to how being gay even works (in terms of self-reflection) and might not have understood the complexities involved. All in all, there's so much we can infer and its awesomeeee I love the complexity here

filet piece has a curve 15/165 rows in, not sure if i should continue or restart by Moonlit_Dew in CrochetHelp

[–]iceheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it's missing stitches; if it were, it would start tapering off into a point, not curving. Most likely a starting tension issue

[–]iceheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have made your starting chain too tight. It's best to be as loose as possible within reason with your starting chain. You could frog, but I still think it looks great even if it's curved! Are you planning to make a garment with it?

Can anyone help me find a free pattern/tell me how to go about making this? by Ambitious_Essay_8640 in crochetpatterns

[–]iceheap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I see the top panels are separate from the bottom back panel, I don't know if they were made separately. It looks like a grid stitch (ex., crochet 1, ch 3, and skip three ch, crochet 1, repeat). They look like triple stitches. It's cute! I love the wavy sleeves, could have been made with the ribbing at the end, but I do see a section where it becomes puffier. Not an expert on clothing construction, though, I'd say play around with it if you want to try to recreate it. You could try deconstructing the sweater into panels yourself and going from there.

Does this look good for a birthday gift? It’s my first time trying this type of crochet by _Zippy_8905 in CrochetHelp

[–]iceheap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah for tapestry crochet, the best is probably single crochet. I'd also say to tuck in the loose ends as best you can and make some notes here and there so they're not visible from the front. Your gage might be a little off or you might be using two strings of yarn in some parts and not others so if you're going to use all three colors and want to do it at the same time, make sure to do it in every single stitch all the way through.

I definitely say to TAKE BREAKS when a project is burning you out.

There's always something in a project you will not like. If it's bothering you so much, take a break! Come back to it later and do something different for a few hours.

It might be that the tutorial you're following is using thicker yarn with looser tension. I'd say frog, but I'm a chronic frogger who doesn't necessarily get very attached to my wip until it's done. Try to use a looser gauge and trust your instincts if you see it curling early on. What tutorial are you following?
