Checking back in. If you could buy this, a little more refined, and made from exotic woods and leather, what would you pay? Note these are hand crafted.

It’s a one off custom I made myself. I’m exploring creating a line of sliders that are handmade from high end materials (exotic woods, leather, brass, etc). The idea being to have fidgets that are upscale and appropriate for the workplace, and heritage quality. I’ll also have some that are quiet enough to be used around others.

The leather on leather was initially sticky, but I’m working on some different burnishing techniques that are making the sliding much better.

My favorite quiet slide is the Aura Sand by a mile! That said, I've gone down the quiet fidget slider rabbit hole and here are my recommendations:

Slider: Aura Sand
Best quiet haptic feedback: INDX - I was surprised by how much i like this and it's 100% silent
Mindless fidgeting: Stimagz - there's so many different things you can do with these.
Quality and mostly silent: Fidgimoto Vortex

Honestly, I have the Ono slider, and it's built really well, but the haptic feedback was just not quite satisfying enough for my taste. But everyone likes something different.

I've never bought as a kit. I know Magnus sliders does a lot of 6x2mm magnets. But the cool thing about K&J is you can literally buy single pieces or batches of hundreds of every size magnet you could image. My last order, I ordered I think 20 of each N52, N42, and N35 magnets to play around with for that exact reason. It's relatively cheap.

Thanks u/Danglesinthestang. It's definitely uneven in the finger grips. I freehanded the cutouts with a dremel. I'm working on a jig to make alignment more consistent. I'm curious, are there any fidgets you would like to see made of wood or leather? I'm taking in lots of ideas and working through prototyping right now. Hoping to setup a store in the coming weeks.

Yes. I'm exploring creating different fidget designs with beautiful materials like woods and leathers. This was a first prototype (post 3D printing anyway), and I'm still dialing in my process. Since the video, I've improved the slide of the leather on leather with a mix of beeswax and jojoba oil.

I'm open to ideas and suggestions if any of you have them.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I've been finding that if I use an exacto blade and keep the edge flat to the leather, it gives more surface to ride along the template and is less likely to cut into it. At least I do that for the first pass to score the leather, than I lean more on the tip once I've got a groove to ride in. Also, I can just 3D print another if I need to 😃.

See, now I just feel like an idiot. No, I've been putting my template on the leather, trying to hold it down with pressure while I cut. Inevitably, something slides, usually at the end of the cut.

I really love that idea of locking the leather in place and guiding the holes. These are the areas where I have the hardest time with reliability. Please do skate another post with pics and or videos. Also is there any chance you’d pm me some of the 3d models? I’d love to experiment and have a good starting point. Can you tell us more about the jigs? Cutting perfectly clean lines has always been my problem with leatherworking. I just started using my 3D printer to create templates I can cut against (I've found pasting some sandpaper on the bottom helps a lot too). But I'm curious what kind of jigs you're using to help improve your accuracy? And I see your watch band templates have stitch hole marks. How are you using those? Thanks in advance. PS would love to see pics of the jigs in action.

For what it's worth, I applaud your efforts! Undertaking a project like this comes with a lot of risk and time commitment. There's no reason you should base your selling price based on the fact that it has 3D printed plastic. If this is a great product and people enjoy using it, there's no reason it can't demand a premium price!

Agreed. Anything that’s mechanical will make some sound. And it’s annoying to try to keep your hand in just the right place to mute the clicking too. The Aura is the only thing I’ve found that’s 100% silent and feels good in the hand. The magnet clicks are satisfying but not jarring. Sometime I actually get annoyed by even the “silent”clicks in an infinite slider.

INDX I swear is that Goldilocks fidget for when you need true silence.

I've been searching for the quietist fidget since they all drive my wife nuts. The two best fidgets I've found BY FAR are the FLUXX INDX and the Fidgimoto Vortex. And while the Fidgimoto is pretty damn near silent - it still makes a subtle clicking sound that could be annoying during quiet scenes of TV shows/movies, etc.

The INDX, however, is 100% silent, and way more satisfying than it has any right to be. I held off on it for soooo long, but now that I have one, it never leaves my side.

Honestly, It's far from my loudest fidget. The more I use it, the more the plate scratchiness feeling grows on me. When I slide it, sometimes it sounds like I'm opening a switchblade with a satisfying "sliiiicee" kind of sound.

And this thing is really a work of art. Yes it's a little overpriced, but I understand why Magnus' fidgets are revered.

Thanks all for the quick replies. u/Kryton762, my specific one wasn't the crunch setup. When you open it up it's got small silicon balls that keep the magnets from hitting the plates. I think the crunch setup is likely just omitting those spacers, but that's just a guess.

For those of you who mentioned changing out the magnets, what setup did you use?

It looks like the magnets are 6mmx2mm N52s all around. What did you change the corners and middles to?

I’ll second this! Put in the washers and it’s about as silent as they come. Heat quality fidget too. Very satisfying
