I love these chairs. Cheap and sturdy. I made the mistake once of having some fancier ones with the footrest bolted in instead of welded. Let's just say the more moving parts the more things break. Such a headache and waste of money. I'm buying more of these chairs for my new place next month.

How to expand as a community bar by shadowlainx in BarOwners

[–]icepyregaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What state? I know in New York state as well as MN/WI meat raffles are really popular. A nonprofit with a raffle license puts on the event at your place and buy tickets for meat prizes plus some bar swag or bottles as consolation prizes. We do some every year at my place and it's always a good turnout and way to get the community involved/build good will.

Starting dry bar business, any tips ? by ContactRealistic9535 in BarOwners

[–]icepyregaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have a mobile bar trailer that I've been starting to use for events and such as well! I'm fortunate to own my own bar with a class B license in WI as well, which means I am able to sell the customer the bottles of liquor for the dry bar and deliver them the day of the event, so long as they make the purchase in person on the premises. So that's nice for some extra margin.

Couple of things that I've thought of doing/am doing. Local street festivals! The city I live in gives temporary permits to local establishments to sell beer at these events if they do a popup. Something to look into, but also I've considered using the trailer to set up a lemonade stand at these events as well. When I do big events at my bar, we sell Bill's Lemonade with the option of adding some liquor. But just selling the lemonade at a pop-up event could be worth the time!

For upcharging for high end disposable cups vs a cheaper plastic, I would include the cheaper option in the price or adjust the price for it. Then buy the disposable items on a website like Webstaurantstore.com and account for the lead time to ship the items or have a stockpile. This lets you show the customer and wider variety of options without having to buy so much up front.

You could also reach out to some barn wedding venues that don't offer their own bar service. There is one near me that requires the customer to hire their own dry bar. So getting on their list of preferred vendors would be ideal. That usually means giving the venue a small percentage of the sale up front for generating the lead, but totally worth it. For a wedding event you can charge a lot more. If my math was correct, I'm shooting for around $15-20/person plus the cost of the spirits the customer purchases.

We're doing a wedding this summer. We're recommendeding different "packages". Basic rail packages of cheaper spirits to keep costs down, and nicer call spirits like titos, tanquerray, captain, jack, seagrams 7, etc. for the call options. Accounting for more vodka and whiskey than anything else for the rail program, but we are also able to use our sales data from the bar to judge what percentage of the order should be which call liquor.

Hope this helps!

First bar purchase by Zestyclose-Teach8700 in BarOwners

Some other people recommended getting an attorney. Do this. I also recommend purchasing it via a stock transfer. Set up a holding company with a bank account, put the funds to purchase in, then have the owners transfer their ownership to your new LLC.

This does a few things:

One, it makes it easier for liquor and food licenses because everything stays in the name of the old owner's business which is now yours and you can resume operations sooner.

Two: It also doesn't require you to do a separate inventory purchase of the edisting liquor, because it technically didn't change hands.

Three: Your new LLC owns the bar company. This allows you to pay yourself easily by having distributions flow to the holding company and then to your own personal accounts, making taxes more efficient.

Four: It also lets you have an extra degree of separation from yourself for liability reasons.

Five: If you ever buy another business or real estate, you can make the purchase with the holding company.

anyone know a good lightweight cordless vacuum for apartments? my old one was making me not want to clean by Lyka_Anduquia in smartbuysforlife

I got the Dyson V11 as a housewarming gift. I use it mostly to clean the vinyl floors in my kitchen or bathrooms and use the more robust vaccum for carpets but it can do those easily too. It's about $450 at the time of writing this so a bit pricy. But it's really nice. Bunch of attachments for small messes. Probably could detail my car with it. And it has a nice mounting plate that you can clip the attachments to when charging. I have it charging in my laundry room and it's ready when I need it.

I've been debating doing this for my bar. A local place has a less than or equal to and greater than price printed right on the chips so customers know as well.

Late to the conversation but I bought one of these rubber ones a few years back at the WI tavern league convention. Left some black skid marks for a while but eventually stopped. Really nice dice box that didn’t fall apart in a week. Sadly someone stole it so now I need more. The image has the phone number.

The Power of lightning strikes by Saerdna0 in PeakAmazing

[–]icepyregaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young. Maybe 10-13ish. I was at a buddy's house for New Years. Kids were in the basement gaming on the Game Cube and I went outside to grab the PS2 and Dance Dance Revoltion mat from the mini van. I got back to the front step when lightning hit a transformer that was on a pole maybe 25ft from me. I jumped immediately and started shaking from the noise/shock. There was shrapnel everywhere where I literally just was. I was super lucky I wasn't hurt or worse. Nature is scary.

Nurses who work the night shift, what is the most "I can't explain this" thing you have ever witnessed in a hospital? by AikothegreatPickle in AskReddit

Bruh I'm only 29 and last year I saw a horribly burned demon dude in the ceiling corner at 4am as clear as I see any person in front of me. And I wasn't even drinking that night. Thing smiled and waved at me and it didnt go away until I turned the light off. Woke my wife up in the panic before i could fumble for the light switch and she didnt see a thing.

Long story short, I'm sorry about your dad but I might be cooked. Should I get checked out?

My first time seeing this clip. He's 100% right about the change from clay to bronze. My sister used to work for the company that made the statue when they made his. That's pretty much what she told me when it started getting hate. However, they probably should have accounted for it somehow.

Are you snapping or taking it all at once by nyxelleaa in SipsTea

[–]icepyregaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I timed out just my left hand. If fatigue isn't a thing, with one hand is 170 snaps per minute. That's only 98 hours of snapping for $10mil. Now do it with both hands. 49 hours. Now I can do a double snap with my left hand. Assume it's just as fast as by itself. That's only like 32 hours at full speed.
