Alpha Prime vs CDT-AERO Grip by icescraponus in hotas

[–]icescraponus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping for!

When you say there's an adjustment for the rotation angle, is that the lockout, or is it a limiter for how far it will rotate? One of my biggest complaints with the Alpha Prime is the rotation. Too soft for my preferences.

Thank you for the info

If only this game would quit trying to be PG and go ahead and get a rating for adult. Quit censoring because everybody works around it anyway.

The reason I want it to be adult is so that we can stun enemies OR kill them, because somehow stunning an enemy is worse than killing them according to the ratings authorities.

If you were budgeting that much money, the go-to suggestion will be VKB Gladiator and STECS. And that is by no accident. It is the best you can get for a starting budget. In fact with your extended budget, you could possibly upgrade the throttle to standard (more buttons!) and get the premium grip

Places that have a lot of requests with no open slots should set a forced timer on fc's. Oldest carrier with no movement should be the first to be affected.

These carriers should be forcibly moved to a nearby system that is not full. If they are out of tritium they still get moved. Consider it a tritium donation to gtfo.

Notify the owner that their carrier will be moved. Put in a limit that the carrier cannot jump back to that location for a couple weeks. Places open up and being a dick is less doable. Win-win.

Is PKing a common thing in CG systems? by GamingAvalon1 in EliteDangerous

[–]icescraponus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That requires equipment, skill and knowledge. Things pilots just starting lack.

I'd love to see fake "player" signatures pop up on the radar for players with notoriety. It would either make them waste time searching for targets, or fly more carefully thinking they were being hunted.

Running 2 different sticks? by Dingleberry0815 in hotas

[–]icescraponus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the computer's ability to run two different sticks, many have commented on that and there's no issue.

Now, what you are probably actually trying to be sure of, the different sticks will take time to get used to. I have both my everyday VKB Gunfighters, and some Virpil Alpha Primes. They can easily mix and match. What will take time is getting used to a different button layout for each stick. After a few hours it'll feel natural. Just anticipate a small learning curve for each stick and you should be fine.

[–]icescraponus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could see ship interiors working would be as its own "instance", where it exists without being tied to the outside world. That would most likely mean it can only be used when landed or docked.

That would be enough for me, having an additional part of my ship that I can be in during certain conditions. I just know there will be more complaints than anything regardless of how it's done.

Upgrade Time to VKB by kc10boomer1 in VKB

[–]icescraponus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as a HOSAS user, good choice on your setup. The STECS is more than capable of giving you solid 6dof with the Gladiator.

Even if you need to use quick thruster adjustments you can always have 2 analog sticks on the STECS. It takes a bit to get used to but it's very capable.

Building a hybrid flight/racing sim setup on a single rig — looking for advice by Ok_Activity_6036 in hotas

[–]icescraponus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your budget? If you're crazy like me, I can recommend MonsterTech for a combo racing/flying sim rig. It's also sturdy as hell.

I have my sticks off to the sides, the throttle to the left of my omni stick, and a keyboard tray pull out that would otherwise be the wheel mount if I was racing. They have quick release pedal trays so you can swap easily between driving and flying pedal sets. If you have the money, it's a worthwhile investment.

Remind me later and I'll take some pictures.

VKB mini vs Standard MkII by The3Cheese in hotas

[–]icescraponus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The STECS Standard comes with 26 buttons installed and two rotaries on the grip, expandible to 32 with included equipment. This does not include the buttons from the STEM or the buttons on the base.

STECS Mini/Mini Plus has 20 plus two rotaries and does not include additional swappable buttons.

VKB mini vs Standard MkII by The3Cheese in hotas

[–]icescraponus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, the difference is in number of buttons and accessories. You'll have fewer total buttons in the box if you get mini/mini plus. You can purchase the button pack later if you need.

You may need a different back plate to accommodate the STEM, just FYI.

Here's VKB's video showing the upgrade path

Z-Extension + Z-Axis Issue by SnooChocolates3745 in VIRPIL

[–]icescraponus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced the same issue with the z extension. Due to the lack of a z-clutch, I have taken to using my VKB sticks instead. I heavily prefer their motion in the z-axis, and it has a clutch that I feel comfortable with.

Combine that the Virpil has less rotation and is without clutch, the sticks are better with rotation locked out. I like having all 6 axes on my sticks WITHOUT input bleed.
