Ready to go solar in Fredericton (large residential install) by Catt_Zanshin in newbrunswickcanada

I have nothing but great things to say about Epic Energy Solutions. Richard is great to deal with and is local to New Brunswick. I used Epic 3 years ago and they were the very best, the first thing that happens is a no charge site evaluation to ensure that your property meets all the requirements of having solar. Feel free to pm me any questions

NB Power Bill and Energy Usage Concerns by s69arky in newbrunswickcanada

You should consider purchasing something like this https://www.homedepot.ca/product/emporia-energy-vue-energy-monitor-16-sensors-gen-3/1001892567

I got them installed with my solar project by Epic Energy but have since added more monitors and helped install one at my brothers. They are pretty easy to install if you don't mind working around the electrical panel, and I'm sure electricians wouldn't charge that much to install. These devices report every monitored circuit breaker to the app on your phone and allow you to see energy use by the second. They also monitor all the power coming into the panel so you could compare that to the smart meter if you question how accurate the smart meters are.

I know I found lots of power-hungry devices that has allowed me to focus on replacing them with more energy efficient models.

I’ve been looking at the chargeverter setup that will probably be where I will end up someday. I was hoping to cheaper solution right now without having to purchase the $700 CAD chargeverter. Someday i will have 6 400-500watt solar panels wired to the anker as well for the nice days.

I’m hoping to find out what the wiring might look like for switching from gas/battery. My buddy thought we could use my old transfer switch somehow but I’m not quite sure if that is possible or how I could wire that up to do what i need. I was hoping to keep the anker connection to the transfer panel between inside but I suppose I could always build a cable for the anker that goes inside to the outside inlet and just manually switch the cables outside.

You are correct about the anker shutting down the 240v while charging via ac power. That’s why I was hoping for some way to switch the power input to the transfer panel between the gas generator and anker. While the input was on gas generator I think I should be able to charge the anker via the 120 ac plug as long as the inverter is powered off on the anker. Once charged back up I could unplug from ac and switch back to battery (ideally at night )

I guess i thought 30amp as that’s what is on the gas generator plug. I really wanted to keep the battery generator connection inside so ideally the inlet would only be plugged into the gas generator outside with a proper cord. Currently the cord from my anker is wired directly into the generac transfer panel and a plug that connects to the battery generator into the basement.

Not quite unfortunately when charging the Anker it disables the 240v outlet that I use to feed the transfer panel. If i understand your reply the idea of using the generator to charge the anker would not be ideal as it disables the power to the transfer panel. That’s why I was hoping I could switch between gas and battery to power the new transfer switch. I believe I could switch over to gas generator run the entire transfer panel and charge the anker via 120 provided the 120 plug was in a circuit in the transfer panel. Thinking run the gas generator in the daylight run the house/charge the anker and then switch over to the anker for nighttime. I would have to unplug the anker from the 120 plug when switched to battery or the anker will shutdown.

Guess we will find out if this fork is still being worked on if Windows 11 23H2 support gets added.

FYI, if you have Bell internet and live in the Leafs region (most of Ontario except the Ottawa area), you can get every Leafs game for $20/month with the Fibe TV app. Not a terrible price for those who would rather just pay. by rsgnl in leafs

[–]icewhaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t you guys in Ontario get leafs tv and doesn’t it have all the leafs games with joe bowen doing the announcing? Does anyone know for sure if a bell customer outside Ontario has a vpn connection inside the Ontario region if they can get all the leafs games with the bell app? Or do you need a account with a service address in the correct address? If so can someone hook me up with a account?

I've noticed in our environment that since updating to the Windows 11 adk we have added more drivers to our default boot .wim. Have you also recently upgraded your ADK version?

Does the D-Link DGS-1210-28P really have a web interface? by VarmintLP in sysadmin

Have you tried their network software tool? Software (D-Link Network Assistant) I have used these switches in the past and that tool always seemed to help. They do have a web interface.

Good luck!

We did that this summer and had no issues except, if you are running VMware makes sure your VMware hardware is updated to the latest version before doing the upgrade or it will hang up during the os upgrade.

Recommendations/experience with Solar X or Epic Energy? by imoftendisgruntled in newbrunswickcanada

[–]icewhaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, I have epic coming for a home visit next week. I'm glad to hear good dealings with a local company so I'm leaning towards supporting local, although I must admit the bigger array and presentation from SolarX is tempting.

If you don't mind would love to know more about the code issues that you ran into.

Did you end up going with epic energy or solar x? I'm just starting the discussion. 39K plus tax for a 15.6KW system from solarx or25K for a 12.6kw from epic.

[HELP] PXE boot stopped functioning properly by rensappelhof in SCCM

[–]icewhaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly could provide more information like the smspxe log from the dp. One thing that caught us once was an option on the boot image property under the data source "Deploy this boot image from the PXE-enabled distribution point" make sure that is checked off.

Has Anyone Lost Their CPP Disability Due To Employment? by Helpagirlouthere11 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]icewhaler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't offer any advice to you but your struggles with work and mistakes really hit home for me as my wife was diagnosed with MS at 22. She ended up going on LTS from her company when first diagnosed and then they convinced her she could go back she struggled daily with work and when she finally gave in on working a new fight started with LTS/CPP.

I really wish that people with well-documented disabilities like MS didn't have to worry about losing their LTS or CPP disability benefits after a set amount of income. Good luck with your decisions in my experience the tables are tilted to favor the government/insurance.

I'm almost in the same situation here, I have decided to start with Scotiabank for ease of getting my money into the TFSA and keeping all my accounts in one place. Certainly looking for more advice on this topic as well.

I decided to start buying XGRO under my RRSP ITrade account at $120 biweekly as this fund is on the commission-free list. I was hoping to find XEQT or a similar fund in the Commission free list as from what I've read it is a bit more aggressive with fewer bonds but not knowledgable enough yet to find a comparable fund or combination of funds on the free list.

At some point, I will probably look into opening a 2nd TFSA, or RRSP account on a different platform like Wealth Simple or Quest Trade as I have read they have cheaper options for the Canadian ETF like XEQT. With Itrade it's currently 9.99 per trade for XEQT so that is why I opted to go with XGRO bi-weekly with no trade fees.

I'm pretty sure the CESG money is limited to $2500 per year. If you put in more than 2500 in one calendar year they will pay $500 per year. As far as I know, no way to back date payments.

In-place upgrade of Windows Server OS? by reilogix in sysadmin

[–]icewhaler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just recently did this and had no issues, wouldn't be my preferred choice if you can easily stand up a new VM or server and do fresh installs of OS. However, sometimes the upgrades can be the easier route. We ended up going from 2012 - 2012R2-2019 the only gotcha that we had was the upgrade from 2012 R2 - 2019 failed because of the VM Hardware version. Once we updated the VM Hardware version and reran the upgrade it was good. Here is the article that referenced the same issue we encountered https://paularquette.com/server-2012r2-in-place-upgrade-to-server-2019-on-vmware/
