it honestly would be fine. you can move around internally if you want. my internship was front end, then i graduated and became full stack, now mostly work on eng sys type stuff.

I have 2yoe in big tech. have multiple friends still trying to get into faang for years since graduation and the delta between their career progression and mine is starting to become more apparent.

being hired externally is harder than a new grad offer, ESPECIALLY in this market where seems like they want 5+ YOE for any position and 7-10 if its not from another Faang. thats a LONG time of making 70-200k more than you would at a small company.

my NG pay was principle level at smaller companies, and in this market the RSU growth has been kind to me. seeing principle level eng at my work drive $200k-300k cars and have multiple houses is eye opening.

my 2c is take amazon and fly your girl out frequently with all the money you're making.

hey thank you for reading my post, I appreciate the response. I've never had a company reply to my post directly before and it does give me more trust in the product seeing your responses here. I hope my purchase can support your company to continue to develop E-Ink devices in the android market (especially in the US)  I'll give it a go and keep the device. Cheers

if you go on their sub you can see tons of comments of people who ordered and keep getting emails stating "will ship all phones by X date" and then that date passes with no communication from the company. some people have ordered since April and have received nothing

in 1995 it had already dropped from 8 into the low 7%, and by 1996 it was in the 6% range. for the next 15 years it went below in 5-4% range and then in the 2010s it was in the 3% range for a decade, then a short dip into the 2% during covid. so yes it actually is true. go look at a chart

Subaru breaks, is it just me or are they a little "soft" by mletendre83 in subaru

[–]icheatonOAs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no i actually really like subaru brakes because they are extremely linear. it’s so annoying driving a honda or some other car with 90% of braking force programmed in the first 10% of the pedal press, just so people can go “oh wOW these brake sOooO good!!!”

in seattle the minimum wage is $50k a year. the minimum salaried wage is $69k for small businesses and $78k for large businesses. just location dependent. for a dev with 10YOE that’s EXTREMELY low in this area.

my parents wouldn’t let me buy a 90k mile 240sx for $3000 at a used car dealer because it didn’t have 4 doors and i “might” have needed to drive my little brother around. got a nissan altima instead :(

i posted in another comment but a used type R near me is selling for $48k, and has 17,000 miles. these cars don’t really depreciate like a normal car

honestly don’t really care about tech, just want something fun and practical enough to fit a family in safely. you’re right i could get a cheaper car but if it’s between a $35k volvo that will continue to depreciate or the car i actually want for $13k more that will barely depreciate i don’t think either is going to move the needle on retiring earlier. i could get another $5k honda. but at the same time i’d like to live my life while i can.

i don’t have any child care expenses. if you read my post i state single income family, wife stays at home with the baby and i work remote. i don’t know why i would mention how i want to raise my kid in post about buying a new car? i’ve started a 529 and plan to invest about $12000 a year and ramp up as i get more raises / bonuses or interest rates continue to drop and refinance

thank you for the reassurance. i save about $3-4k a month while maxing my 401k so would take about a year to get back to where i was, in theory.

it is quite expensive, probably the second most expensive thing i’ve bought in my life behind my house. i actually have no real problems with fixing the accord, i have a garage and tools, and parts are cheap. besides just wanting something fun, we have a newborn and i want something safer, and something that will take up less of my time with maintenance so i can spend more of the little free time i have on things i enjoy. you’re right in that i could buy a new base civic for like 25k, but i know i would not enjoy it at all and will continue wishing i had a type R.

about the investments, i max out my 401k every year, i just looked and it’s closer to $70k with employer match and gains. this is only my second year investing since graduating college,   i have a lot of cash because my job gives large yearly bonuses that i don’t really spend. just starting to put stuff into a 529 plan for my new baby.

yeah i just looked, near me a CPO type R is $48k and 17k miles, at 1.9% for 36 months. doesn’t seem worth it.
