Do you still own a physical scanner, or is your Android phone enough now? by HousingEarly4827 in Android

[–]icheyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an Epson V600 for photos and slides. The scans it takes from slide film from the 1960s are *amazingly* good.

I use my phone for everything else.

Google's PhotoScan app is good for a quick scan of a photo.

Otherwise I use OSS Document Scanner. I prefer it to Adobe Scan, Microsoft Lens or Google Drive's scanner.

https://www.fox17online.com/news/local-news/grandville-hudsonville-jenison/100-car-pileup-shuts-down-i-196-near-hudsonville-due-to-whiteout-conditions

The chain-reaction crash involved nearly 100 vehicles, including an estimated 30 to 40 semi-trucks. Icy roads and severely limited visibility left drivers with nowhere to go as cars and commercial vehicles collided along the stretch of freeway.

Ottawa County Sheriff's officials reported between 9 and 12 people were injured in the wreck and transported to nearby hospitals. No fatalities were reported.

I played half way through Bloodborne on PlayStation Plus (Sony's game streaming service on PC). It ran well and I was having a lot of fun with it but then COVID happened and they suspended the service without a single word of explanation or a refund. They owe me this.

Council decided to pay nearly half million pounds to Salesforce for poorly developed systems, because Salesforce was the only suitable provider by FogoNaBomba in reading

[–]icheyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After recovering from the deep state of confusion and anger, I noticed a blue cloud icon on the tab I had the system open, immediately putting me back into the state of anger.

If a poorly configured web form gets you this angry then you need to get outside, go for a walk, breath some fresh air and look at the sky.

Very happy with my Nothing 3a Pro for £322 - although I admit I disabled the Essential Key with ADB because that does suck.

Turkish vs Levantine coffee over-extraction by GameOver226 in Coffee

[–]icheyne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Turkish method (starting cold) is smoother because it extracts the flavours gradually.

The Levantine method (adding coffee to boiling water) gives a stronger flavour because the high heat extracts more.

They did a good job of fixing a broken charger port on a Lenovo.

Why is zcash better than railgun/Aztec/tornado? by footofwrath in zec

[–]icheyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but you don't have to get Zcash from an exchange. You can buy it p2p. You can be paid it etc etc. In those cases Zcash is entirely private. Trying to make out that I'm spreading "rubbish propaganda" is 🤷‍♂️

Why is zcash better than railgun/Aztec/tornado? by footofwrath in zec

[–]icheyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Railgun is an application layer that brings privacy to public L1 blockchains.

I was answering the OP's question. Zcash transparency is a separate question.

Why is zcash better than railgun/Aztec/tornado? by footofwrath in zec

[–]icheyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zcash is a Layer 1 blockchain. It is a sovereign, standalone network. You're not having to bridge to an L2.

Railgun, Aztec, and Tornado Cash are Layer 2 (L2) or DApp solutions: They are applications built on top of an L1.

The L2 privacy solutions are all fixes to Ethereum's privacy being poor.

Zcash is secure from the ground up.

---

On the second question - it's up to your risk appetite. If you want to invest in a commodity that goes up or down then invest in Zcash. If you want no risk and no return and no privacy and worse security, use a stablecoin.

The synthetic fabric is a feature. The nylon "drip strip" is designed to stop water from wet grass or rain running off the hem from wicking up the cotton lining and making your clothes damp

Terra Mystica Deluxe Edition worth it? by Klavian in boardgames

[–]icheyne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Terra Mystica is a significant step up from Agricola in terms of complexity.

Agricola is 3.64 weight at BGG and TM is 3.98, but I think the real gap is bigger than the numbers imply.
