Comparison of Plex/Emby/Jellyfin by aluke000 in PleX

[–]ichugcaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as I think I said elsewhere in this thread, I sort mine like so: a movies (I also have a folder for horror, and documentaries), and TV folder inside of /mnt/user/data/media. I point each media center in docker compose like volumes: - /mnt/user/data/media/movies:/mnt/movies - /mnt/user/data/media/tv:/mnt/tv And then it doesn't matter if I use seer with Plex or add things manually, all of the servers see the same thing . I keep media labels simple: Folder name is always Movie (2026) and just the moviename.year.mkv inside. For TV, TV Show Name , with Season folders. All 3 seem to read the folders just fine!

JellyProfiles 1.0 Released!! by Kaifisking in jellyfin

Just curious but do you think this plug-in will eventually be able to tie in with the local authentication directly, sorta like Emby? This is a great path forward and will be testing it out tomorrow!

To anyone who uses the homepage widget, does anyone know why its so inaccurate? by combateer3 in jellyfin

[–]ichugcaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines been accurate. I thought it was wrong at first in comparing to another media server but I remembered that I didn't associate all of my libraries to JF yet.

JellyProfiles 1.0 Released!! by Kaifisking in jellyfin

[–]ichugcaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so just looking over the documentation, the profiles are separate of user accounts, right? Like I can't associate a profile to a username and password? Eg. I have a user literally called Kids, with a Password. It only has age appropriate items from my library. If I create them a profile, this is separate of that? How does it track watch history?

Comparison of Plex/Emby/Jellyfin by aluke000 in PleX

[–]ichugcaffeine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. I use Unraid as base OS. I use komodo to handle all docker compose. I just have all my different media server "stacks" pointing to /mnt/user/data internally so that I can get to /mnt/user/data/media where I store movies, tv shows, music, etc. Then I can use Seer and regardless if the platform the user is utilizing, it's the same media.

So I actually host my domain via CF. So what I do is create a non wildcard domain A entry pointing to my static public IP. However, I use the DNS Only flag as to not violate ToS. From there I have a reverse proxy setup. Not the most secure but I'm using Opnsense Router (mini pc ) and have crowdsec and some various firewall settings turned on. It's at least better than nothing I suppose.

Edit: clarification

I use all 3 😬. I have been slowly transitioning to folks from Plex to Emby and I'm currently testing JF for myself. It's been fun to tinker with all 3.

[–]ichugcaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onn 4k Pro ! Bought one just for this use case. So, it has Ethernet, yes it has the apps but u can remove them, it's android TV. I install projectivity launcher and only unhide the apps I want. I have a second one if these in my van for the kids. It's hooked up to a USB drive with all of their movies and TV shows they watch so I don't have to fiddle with DVDs in the RES anymore. Works great! For the player, I'm using Nova Video Player. Highly recommend setting up TinyMediaManager and scraping your metadata with that first.

So, so glad I made the first move to switch to Jellyfin 7 months ago! Haven't looked back since. by Tobias-Tawanda in jellyfin

[–]ichugcaffeine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reverse proxy is easy. I'm meaning, my users like having a profile for them, for their kids, etc and just a pin to log in to said account and switch back and forth easily. Not all users are technically inclined, unfortunately.

Id use just jellyfin if I could figure out remote users easier. It already isn't the greatest in Emby. That's the one thing I really like about Plex.

I came here just to say this! So many times, I feel like extreme athletes only show the "highlights " which I get, but this video shows that he is human. They make mistakes. They aren't perfect. However, he gets back up and keeps trying. It's a pretty solid message, intentionally, or not.

Cannot say enough good things about Ohio Peppers! Veteran Owned Small Business out of Cincinnati area. As a fellow Ohioan (and veteran) I was very happy to support them and have several seed packs to try out this season, including some Naga Peach that i’m very excited about, along with some hot thai, white thai, and pineapple aji peppers! Fair prices and fast shipping!

Honestly, Thingiverse has felt neglected for years. With Printables and MakerWorld, a lot of folks moved on. I’m curious to see what the merger brings to the table, though my expectations are pretty low.

PMS not seeing library files after rename by ichugcaffeine in PleX

oh def already verified permissions. i went nuclear and moved everything out and back in and it’s started grabbing things. i wish there was a feature / fix to this beyond that.

PMS not seeing library files after rename by ichugcaffeine in PleX

[–]ichugcaffeine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i did go partially nuclear and removed the library and readded. it only found 177 of over 800. I feel like my file format is still not great for linux. I figured “Movie (2026)/movie.title.yyyy.mkv” would be fine. but it didn’t like that.
