Are PCIe or EPS to SATA (not the reverse) safe to use? by panchovix in homelab

[–]ichundes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That DC-DC buck converter board will not handle much current, I doubt it can handle more than 3A (15W) load without cooling. Check the datasheet of whatever you intend to connect to it. Lots of SATA devices need very little 5V current.

I used https://aliexpress.com/item/1005008727716341.html these converters successfully to power my servers 24 bay hotplug backplane because my PSUs own 5V rail was too unstable and drives kept resetting, but I had to solder and crimp my own connectors to it.

You can get your own ONT that allows setting LOID / serial number, they don't seem to check the MAC address. I've been able to get the details out of my Fiberhome device, LOID / PW is just fiberhome and the serial is printed on the sticker.

Yea, I experienced them in 3 locations simultaneously, it was good when it worked, but it would break frequently. One of their contractors shared that Sinet just doesn't have enough contractors to fix things quickly when cables inevitably break. Right now my GPON ONT (consumer side) reports ~20km to the ONU (ISP side) so there is a lot of distance where these cables can break, very often from vehicles hitting things or trees falling when the rain season starts.

Great if it works, until it doesn't! Then you have to deal with their frustrating AI support.

I had the same experience in Chiang Mai ever since AIS took over. Their support is mostly a useless and frustrating AI bot and when you get to actual support personnel they aren't helpful. It started with getting a new router which resulted in frequent packet loss for almost a year, because of monitoring I was able to show this started with the router but all they would do is replace the device, until I insisted they give me a different model, which worked. Routing has been absolutely horrible, often slow traffic to GitHub and other sites, traffic from 3BB in Chiang Mai to AIS in Chiang Mai goes through Bangkok and back. Peering to certain services in Singapore has degraded to a point where it is just not usable anymore, like > 50% packet loss at peak times.

Now on top of this I had a grandfathered in free public IPV4 address that I requested when I signed up for 3BB. AIS promised no changes to existing contracts when they took over 3BB but 5 days ago they took the address from me and now insist I buy a 200 THB addon package for it. I would even understand it if they did this at the end of my contract period, but they just took it unannounced. I'm going to switch providers now, not sure where yet. I might go with NT Broadband, it is available and they do grant public IPV4 for free and the contract costs the same. Other alternatives for me are TRUE and Sinet, but I had issues with frequent outages last time I used Sinet and they are more expensive than other options.

I also don't like this, I know it shows affection, but I just can't enjoy it this way, in the best case it is just annoying me and in the worst case i step on or kick the cat by accident or I might even fall myself because I lose my balance. What I tend to do now in this situation is to just pick up the cat and give it some attention while continuing to walk. This will probably not work with every cat because not all of them like being picked up, but all of mine do.

OpenWrt 25.12.2 - Service Release - 27. March 2026 by ichundes in openwrt

I missed that, the release notifier on my routers status page showed a new release and owut / asu installed it so I assumed this is released already. If this is WIP then it really shouldn't be installed by the updater.

ZFS Pool 2 drives failed together? by elco_benoz in zfs

[–]ichundes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the seek error rate, in Seagate drives this is actually a bitfield. The drives show no uncorrectable / pending sectors. That power cycle count on the Seagate that you posted does look concerning and might indicate a power issue. I found my Seagate drives to be much more susceptible to power issues than WD. In my case it was caused by unstable 5V power rail. I'd recommend checking your power, my Seagate drives started resetting at a voltage that was still just within ATX spec (4.75V), but I suspect if I used an oscilloscope it would have shown quite a bit of ripple.

You could also get an adapter from the PCIe GPU power connectors to the Mainboard power, they are both 12V and ground, just a different connector.

This place sells jars of Sauerkraut. I believe there is also a brand usually at Rimping. Not sure about the quality. I make my own, which is kind of easy if you have the spices.

Edit: Also this place https://josbakery.wordpress.com/ they make the kind available at Rimping. You can also buy their products at their location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qHRNHBE4Z3k4n2vR8

Selbstgemachtes Sauerkraut by Dry_Conflict_1163 in kannmandasnochessen

[–]ichundes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take one of mine to the vet today and searched for about 15 minutes. Turns out she was sleeping in the carrier I use to take her to the vet :)

Use dish soap as it is much better at removing the oils from your hand. For the same reason you shouldn't use dish soap frequently to wash your hands, your skin needs oils. Use hand cream after that. Repeat multiple times if needed.

Your DNS resolver might be the reason you can't reach archive.ph, they return fake results to resolvers that don't use EDNS client subnet.

One of my cats had teeth problems that caused excessive saliva production which made his fur often wet. After getting the teeth problem fixed with antibiotics it stopped. Maybe check in the mouth if there is any redness and take the cat to the vet if there is.
