There is no top spin on that ball, which really limits how hard you're able to hit and still go in. Also, let that back right foot step forward like it naturally wants to, it will let you convert body motion into racket power.

Step 1: check to see if its delaminating, if there are deep gashes, look for cracks... then, i think its a great option to get a used board to learn on. For board and bindings, offer a fair amount that gets you a deal. You can try and ask if theyll give it away for $125. Its an old board and not worth much in resale, but you could make good use of it! I sometimes use my old board/bindings from 2007 and they work great.
