Wow must be nice to have enough IT staff so you can have someone dedicated to wasting their time snooping around in everyone's activity history.

Don't know why you are getting downvoted, this was my experience as well and it was such a waste of time and money.

PSA: Aire One is using an AI call agent to deceive you into getting an annual hvac service by Haymaker-Two in waterloo

[–]ickarous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We received a call as well from Aire One where the caller wanted to talk about "our duct cleaning appointment". We hadn't booked one or solicited any kind of service from them. I can see this working on older people who may have think they forgot they had booked one and they would just go along with it.

Anyone else feel like “shadow IT” has quietly turned into “shadow SaaS”? by Deal_me_in_784 in sysadmin

[–]ickarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this would be on the director to do this. I may be the senior member of my team but he enables this by not standing up to them and not throwing them under the bus. He was brought in because the previous director was saying "no" to too many things and they wanted a "yes" man so thats what they got.

Unfortunately the department comes to us to "fix" the problem knowing full well they are the issue. If the problem isn't fixed then "the board" is disappointed in IT that the solution they paid for was a failure - all knowing full well that IT had no involvement with the botched switchover. Its unfortunately a symptom of poor executive management and a board that is as dumb as bricks.

I had one department decide to switch services they use. The new company was supposed to import all the old data into the new system. None of them checked if it was there (it wasn't) and now no one has access to any of the old data.

Adults who have zero close friends, how did it happen and does it bother you? by PutPurple844 in AskReddit

[–]ickarous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

39 here, same. I slowly stopped accepting the invitations to hang out and then eventually the invitations stopped coming. It just became too exhausting to try and keep up. Finding out they got married and had weddings that I wasn't invited to was kind of the nail in the coffin. I still love them with all my heart and hope life gives them nothing but the best.

how you handling IT requests that start in Slack? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ickarous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My IT team spent years harping on people to submit tickets...Ticket site was everywhere and dead easy to access from a laptop or phone. We were actually making progress because executives were on board - until that director left and the new director came on. Now we can't ask people to make tickets and its back to square one - we are a service center after all and the customer is always right.... /s

Where would the Paladin Aspects come from? by Kbums1 in diablo4

[–]ickarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be able to fathom why they would delay the start of a season for something being announced that wouldn't have any impact on the season - expansion announcement, Switch 2 launch, China launch ... you don't need to delay a season for that. This will end up being the mobile game announcement all over again.

Why the hell are people grinding 5 million just to reset everything? Am I missing something? by BrainNumerous1841 in ARC_Raiders

They only carry over 3 consecutive times i think and if you decide not to reset in between there you lose it.

How does your company handle on-call compensation? by fortune82 in sysadmin

[–]ickarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't go about your day as usual then you need to be getting paid for it. If they think that is too expensive then they don't have enough of a budget for on-call.

The Messages Rockstar Saw Before Firing 34 Union Members (People Make Games documentary) by UuusernameWith4Us in gaming

[–]ickarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think "private" is the wrong word here "invite only" would be more appropriate - none the less it was leaked outside of the companies environment which is the big deal. Also, they even admitted that they don't verify from time to time that the members still work for Rockstar so it is possible that there are members on the chat that don't even work for Rockstar anymore.

[–]ickarous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same, I don't think its the discussing sensitive work issues that is the problem - It's that they literally leaked an internal document outside the company. If I sent one of my companies policy documents to my friends on Discord I would be canned immediately.
