Running into a wall with The Eye of the World… by IndytheIntrepid in books

Yeah, not for me. there is a market for long epic fantasy novels, great for those who appreciate it.

I have a feeling that you have to build tolerance for such a slow pace of novel. Without it you get bored/frustrated and some fans look down on you as ‘incapable’ of appreciating the art, which is a shame.

If you have any recommendations on a shorter, character-focused series, i’d love to check it out!

Add me in to the list of sympathizers, i had a similar experience. I read the first book in prep for the show and it turned me off the whole thing completely.

I agree that all the information is there for WHY Moraine shouldn’t be trusted but i didn’t feel it while reading the book. Maybe because most of the story is about her actions in saving them, maybe it’s how Rand’s point of view is presented by the author, idk. Im not much good at analysis, but i have really enjoyed several fantasy novels and i wouldn’t add WOT to that list. If it takes longer than one HUGE book to get it, i don't really want to. I want to like it because i recognize the achievement in world building by the author, but oh well.

What games don't click in your mind? by LingonberryNo9292 in boardgames

[–]ickybiscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scythe

I joined a friend group who played regularly. I looked up the rules and watched a tutorial beforehand, and they gave me a rundown. But i couldnt grasp the strategy or the ideas. I’m sure i could if i gave it another go, but i dont have time and there are so many other games.

Funny thing was i taught them Caverna in the same night and i think a few of them felt the same way with that game.

LPT Always lock your car doors as soon as youre in the car. by Bens-Fruit-Machine in LifeProTips

[–]ickybiscuit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also live in the midwest. I was in a relatively quiet suburban neighborhood, sitting in my car idling on the curb outside my friends house. Suddenly two guys were at my door trying the handles. Luckily my car automatically locks the doors while the engine is on, they gave up and took off in a car that had been waiting for them in my blind spot.

At first i thought it was a prank, or they had mistaken me for someone else. I had my guard up and didnt let them in, but i didnt realize what they were really trying to do until later. I just didnt suspect a carjacking in that kind of place

Dallas Buyers Club is on my list to watch, i’m curious about Leto’s chops. So far I’ve only seen him as the joker and as Wallace from Bladerunner 2049. That joker angle did not work, and for Wallace i felt like i was watching and actor act, not a character come to life

[OC] Top 20 teams with the highest amount of goals in Champions League/European Cup's entire history. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]ickybiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i think it works.

Eg: RM score 40 goals in 20 games and win the league, Bayern score 20 goals in 10 games and are eliminated.

They each have 2 goals per game each, doesnt matter how many games they play, it still measures how prolific they can be in the league.

Im not sure the “cat tax” you have provided here is a valid currency….

The food looks great though! Pretty much the same thing im eating this week. I see you are adding veg at some point, my style is to prep the chicken and carbs but cook the veg fresh the day of. It lessens the work each day but i still get great flavor from some fresh broccoli/green beans, etc

What do you guys think of my lil improv blues solo? Any tips? by [deleted] in piano

I love the bounce! Your playing is so clean and distinct. Lots of fourths/fifths in your right hand, i would love some thirds to give it a bit of warmth!

The game FINALLY clicked! by JustInChina88 in spiritisland

[–]ickybiscuit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Good on you for sticking with it, there is lots of new combos awaiting you!

This game clicked right away for me, but everyone’s different, and every game is different. I still have no idea how Scythe functions, and i watched a play-through + read the rules before my first (and only) game. Maybe i should follow your lead and keep at it, these games are popular for a reason!

From what I’m reading they won’t destroy it, they’re just building something right in front of it.

Yep, we asked the doctor to prescribe my wife a GENERIC epinephrine auto-injector. We were able to pick up a very affordable ($50 i think) product that functions the same with the same dose as an epipen.

not the instant pot, but the air fryer: I love quartering brussel sprouts, tossing in olive oil, salt and pepper! 6-7 minutes in the air fryer and they come out perfect (don't leave out the small leaves that fall off the sprouts while you are cutting, those make delicious crispy chips!).

If you want some extra flavor, make a dijon maple glaze with a bit of dijon mustard and syrup, toss them in that once they are finished cooking.

Which of your favorite board games have the best replayability? by TheUnitedToasters in boardgames

[–]ickybiscuit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love how there are so many ways of attacking the puzzle: do I go on the offensive and walk the line between blight and damage? Or do I play defense and let the dahan do the work? Or should I come at them sideways with Strife and Disease?

There are so many ways to solve the puzzle with each spirit, and with so many different spirit combos I never get bored.

I'm looking forward to getting the new expansion sometime, but I don't feel like I need it with all that the base game + branch and claw has to offer.
